What this device allows you to do is monitor your water heater remotely and crucially activate the circulation pump manually. This allows you to have hot water without having to drain all of the cold water in the line. It save both water and energy while giving you a better experience. Prior to installing this, the water heater circulation pump would run on auto. That sounds nice but there are two issues with this First is it wastes a lot of energy heating and running hot water when you don't need it. The second is it doesn't always provide hot water when you want it. After a weeks vacation, the circulation stopped working and hasn't worked in almost a month while it re-learns our routine. With this module, we can hit a button and get hot water instantly. I couldn't find the button on Amazon so ordered it elsewhere. You can use your phone app although it's nice to locate the button near places where you want hot water like showers or in the kitchen. It's very easy to install. You have to open your water heater. There is a small opening at the bottom to run the cable and you mount the wifi control module outside of the water heater. I attached it to a wall nearby. I recommend changing the circulation pump setting to manual and comfort mode. When you want to use hot water, hit the button. Depending on the distance it takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes. The pump will stay on for 5 minutes. When you turn on the tap and the water will be almost instantly hot. Great for showers, laundry and washing dishes. ... show more

Worked perfectly. It's needed if you want to set up heated recirculation and your a DIY kind of guy.

I would give 0 stars if I could. The entire selling point of this device is that it will allow you to have more control over when water is heated and when recirculation runs. Keep in mind that I am quite technically versed. I tried all kinds of different settings that you can change from the internals of the water heater. Nothing allowed either remote module to let me explicitly start heating water. You can often get water to recirculate, but it is usually cold. Without this module, the Rinnai Sensei provides a "SmartCirc" auto heating/circulation and on demand for both. That results in, once in a while, hot water being available when you turn on the tap. With this module installed nothing works anymore. I set up a smart schedule. I set the water temp. I tried running the recirc pump. Any one of those settings might or might not apply and do something. Most of the time, a light will flash on the RWM200 indicating that a remote command was received, and then the water heater sits there doing nothing at all. I also have a Home Assistant instance and tried tying this into it to see if it worked better than the mobile app. It does not. The fault lies entirely with this device. That alone is a dealbreaker, but it is actually even worse! The entire remote control depends on cloud services. One would think that if that service were down, then the water heater would revert back to using its internal SmartCirc. Instead, the heater simply won't operate in any capacity. You may think that's not a big deal, but their servers go down at least once a week during normal hours. Moreover, this is actually a flaw with the water heater itself even more than the module. Attempting to resolve all these issues using an outdated RWM101 revealed that controller has the exact same problems. Even though it has a local non-cloud mode, compared to the worthless RWM200 which is cloud only, the pump itself doesn't strictly listen to what the remote module requests. At best, it hears the requests as suggestions and more often than not discards what you asked for. Without this module installed, water will at the very least heat on demand, which is better than nothing. This is an offensive device that shouldn't be allowed to be sold to the general public. ... show more

    • Easy to set up and great product.
Great item. Use it to control my water heater from my phone but more importantly, it is used to set up a schedule for the recirc pump to run. Also, use it with the recirc push button. So much better than the old model.

    • Once I Factory Reset….worked like a charm!
Worked like a charm. You may need to factory reset the device to get it setup, but after that it worked great!

    • Better than the Control-R
Much better than the old Control-R unit. It connected in seconds and I was able to get connected in just a few more minutes by simply cycling my Android's power. Still think that Rinnai has a high school class writing their code as clunky as it performs but it's working and that's all I need.

this is incredibly easy to install, the app is basic but fine, and now I don't have to go to my attic to start recirculation or increase the max hot water temp for a short while. If I have little kids over it is super simple to turn down the max water temp from the app. Silly easy to install. Really :) ... show more
