i’d give this a five out of five stars for ease of installation and set up. i’m a pretty experienced. Do it yourself et and only had a couple of open questions about installing this with a recirculation loop. The instruction manual isn’t bad, but I used a few web searches to find a video that filled in some blanks. once I had the gas, electric and water lines connected I fired it up and it has worked like a charm since. I bought this about two months ago when it was on sale and with my local utility company rebate and federal tax credit I actually came out with a couple hundred dollars in my pocket. we had all the walls open so we were able to add recirculation lines and with those there’s really never a delay for hot water. it also makes a lot of hot water, we can have the showers and washing machine going, and there’s no noticeable reduction in temperature. ... show more

    • Worked great. For almost 2 years.
We had this installed as part of a remodel/addition to our home. It worked great for about a year and a half. Now we are without hot water every morning because of a faulty gas control valve. The part is covered under warranty, but the labor to replace said part is coming in (from multiple preferred service providers - available on Rinnai’s automated phone message) is right around $1100. So Rinnai has a great parts coverage policy. But the labor to replace that part is not covered at all. ... show more

    • Great outdoor tankless water heater
Install was not difficult and the performance and quality is excellent. We never run out of hot water and love the recir feature. Having the unit mounted outside was a huge space saver for our basement. Also, we replaced our electric hot water tank with this gas unit and have huge savings each month with our electric bill. ... show more

    • Not a robust product. Taking cold shower for a month now
We bought a new RSC199eN tankless water heater for $2500 about one and half months ago hoping this is an ultimate solution for hot water inside our house. After installing, in 2 weeks it started leaking inside from the pump connection. I called the technician that are rennai certified and verified. They said they will charge us $350. We have reached out to rennai to ship parts needed for the repair. We have waited 3 weeks and have not received any parts yet, sill taking cold shower for a month now even after spending all that amounts . Not worth it! ... show more

    • Costs a fortune to install, and doesn't work brand new, and nobody can fix it.
I had one of these (but for propane) installed on my new house. It never lit. All the parameters were gone through multiple times. Nobody knows how these work, or what to do when they don't. The price difference between a real water heater and these instant ones isn't the purchase price, it's the fact nobody knows how to install it or make it work. You need to buy at least two just to get one that works. If you insist on it, buy the stuff to have two work together, so you might get hot water. Now I have to figure out how to return mine (I didn't get it from amazon) and what to do so I can have hot water, because my house was designed for this. This is as complicated as a modern car, but there's no mechanics that can plug a computer into it and figure out why it just blows air and won't light. The third person who tried to fix it confirmed there's gas and everything has power. He left and said he would study about the problem and maybe get back to me next week. ... show more
