As this was my first time using a car top carrier, I was extremely nervous that I had installed it improperly and kept stopping on my drive to double check the straps. I needn't have worried. After properly hooking the straps to my interior door frame, I tightened them and tucked in the ends as indicated. While the air rushing past the straps was loud at first, I got used to it. My items arrived dry and undisturbed at my destination. What's more, I was traveling very large interstates with high speed limits (70mph and up) and never felt like the thing was going to fly off my roof and back at some poor driver behind me.     • Great choice! Worth the money!
This thing did a great job for our granddaughter who has a nissan juke. She was moving 1000 miles away and could only barely fit all her stuff in the car. No room for a friend to go with her. We bought this before her trip, she and her not-so-handy friends were able to mount it successfully, and it gave her plenty of extra room in the car! She said it made some noise while driving, but that was the only thing that was a negative. There are a couple great videos on youtube that show how to install this, which made a difference. Also, we bought a roof pad to protect the paint - worth doing that. On top of all that, this thing was small when it came in, and packs back up real small after you’re done. ... show more

    • I would get a roof rack
All in all, it's a great product. Sturdy material. Definitely waterproof. Hearty zippers. Well constructed. Just be smart and aware and use properly. If you have no roof rack, be sure you have the hooks in a position that doesn't create too much of a gap between the window and weather strip. Not only will it be noisy, but it will cause your air conditioner to have to worker harder. I believe the carrier also causes extra wind resistance and the weight of it can cause your engine to be overworked. I almost overheated in the middle of the desert 40 miles outside of Vegas in 110 degree weather. Scariest trip of my life! If I had it to do over again, I would have had a roof rack installed. ... show more

We put it to the test on a camping trip. The quality of the bag is excellent. The bag is waterproof and during our travels, there was plenty of hard rain to test this. Everything was completely dry inside the bag. Latching the straps and tightening down was relatively easy. Round trip, we traveled approximately 650 miles and no issues or safety concerns. They do recommend you drive for a couple of miles and check. I did this upon starting each trip and felt comfortable with the security of the bag each time. Last, it was easy to pack and there is lots of room. Being able to securely transport camping gear on the top of the vehicle, opened up the inside for a much more enjoyable ride. ... show more

Driving from Nevada to Florida, followed instructions perfectly, did okay on the first day of the trip, now on day 2 of 4, the straps have already ripped, as well as the bag itself. No bad weather or anything unusual took place either. We’ve been very gentle with it, checking the straps and tightness at every gas stop. Not sure how this could’ve been prevented. If it can’t handle the gentle care it’s been through so far, there’s no way it’s weatherproof. Now I’m in the middle of my move and have to continue driving with the risk of losing my cargo, really disappointed. Not to mention, the hooks are ruining the stripping in my car door, and causing a ton of outside air to flow in, which is making the car extremely loud inside + hotter than it should be, wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. This carrier worked perfectly on top of our Prius C on our move from Virginia to Arizona.I read a ton of reviews before making a purchase because this was our first car top carrier. I took all the advice on making sure it is zipped all the way, zipper is covered and not facing the wind, put the bag on top of the car and then load it. We drove through all kinds of crazy weather...cold, heavy rain storms, snow, and heat. Nothing got wet or damaged at all. The carrier did it's job and did it well. It was a little loud, but tolerable. I mean, what do you expect when you have a big bag on top of your car? If I ever need another carrier, I would purchase another one of these.     • Fit on subcompact car and stayed on for a drive across country
Bought the 9 cubic square foot bag.I attached this to my little Chevy spark that has no roof rack or tracks of any kind and drove it across country. The bag stayed put for the whole trip and was a life saver. It held up in the hot desert and the humid rain. The bag made noise throughout the drive but was bearable and to be expected. We fit two large duffel bags, one back packing backpack, one school size backpack, a 4 person tent, three totes with squish able small items and had room to put in a blanket. I could of possibly fit a slightly larger bag but I'm not sure if this size was recommended due to weight or other reasons. The bag easily fit on the roof with room to spare on all sides. We put this on top of my daughter's Honda Civic. We had minor difficulties understanding how to attach the hooks to the inside of the car because there was not a roof rack, but we looked up a video on YouTube and it worked. In July, she moved from Florida to Wisconsin. We put her clothes in the carrier. During the brutal heat of Florida Summer the black bag was hot to the touch, but once zipped up the clothes stayed dry during the midday rain downpours.
