I needed a good travel fishing setup for a trip out to Wyoming and this did not disappoint! First, the rod is great, it packs down easy and can really be dialed in for the type of fishing you want to do. First catch on it was a 2lb rainbow trout on the spinning set up, then tried my hand at fly fishing and had fun pulling in little creek chubs. I love this set-up, It is very durable and well made! I'm on my second season with it now and it is my go to rod when I fly out of town and need to pack light, It even fits easily in my carry-on. Not much room for extra tackle, but I usually buy that locally at my destination after I find out what's working best. The only problem I've had is being able to find replacement tips from the manufacturer. I closed my ultr-light tip in the awning on my RV and it snapped off, haven't been able to find a replacement yet. Total bummer, because this was my favorite for most of the fishing I do. Otherwise a great value, I have a rod for almost every situation in a compact design with flawless function. Will add another star of I can figure out how to order a replacement tip, if I hadn't been careless I'm sure this combo would be a family heirloom someday. ... show more

I had fished for years with a vintage 4-piece fiberglass rod with a sliding reel mount so that it could be used for both fly-fishing and spin fishing. Really, it functioned as a slow fly rod that could be used in a pinch with a spinning rod. Recently, when we were headed for a week in the Boundary Waters, I wanted to get a second packable rod for my kids to use. I ordered the X5 with the reels because I liked the idea of the integrated reel protection. I have really enjoyed this rod! I have been super impressed with the design and performance of the rod. As a spinning rod, it casts better than my regular mid-weight rod. When I put on the lighter-duty fly tip and a 6-weight line, at first I didn't think it was going to be workable--the rod is shorter than I am used to in a 6-weight and the action is very fast. Once I got used to it, though, I really liked it. It can really launch a big streamer. The shorter length makes it feasible for tiny streams, though the heavier action means that delicate presentation and precise location are hard. One thing worth mentioning is that the packed size of the rig is even smaller than I pictured. It fits easily in a day pack, let alone a backpacking pack. I'm looking forward to taking it all over. (NB Mine shipped with a minor defect in the rod case--a sewing glitch in one of the reel pockets. Andy provided stellar support and authentic enthusiasm for the product and its use.) ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Was really excited to receive this in the mail as I was getting really into fishing this season. But upon opening the package, I was immediately disappointed. Amidst all the branding of being "designed in the Lake District", the rod is very much a Made in China product. It would not have been a disappointment if they had not made such a big deal on their marketing about being a UK product. Then comes the mess of parts. There are no instructions included. To find any form of instructions on which blank connects to another to form a rod combo, you have to go online to squint at an image to figure that out. NOTE: There are far fewer practical rod combinations than the advertised 25 combos (what good is a 3' H rod?) Further confusing is that there are no clear instructions on the power and lure limits of each "rod". Both of which would be quite important information to know as casting weights exceeding what the rod is meant for, risks breaking the rod. On to the specific package that I received, there were a few defects in the product. 1. The butt end extension would not fit into the butt, the only piece that is meant for it to fit on. The internal fit is completely different diameter than the butt end. 2. At least 2 guides came chipped and / or bent. Putting the pieces together was far more cumbersome than practical. The most "usable" 9' combo actually weighs significantly heavier than even the Ugly Stick Elite 9', and that is a beater rod. Really want to like the concept of a one-rod to do it all but this rebranded AliExpress package is going back. ... show more

I needed a travel rod to bring on vacation. This seemed pretty awesome and looking at the rigged n ready products I ended up going with this one, which I regret. It tries to be useable for so many contrasting things that it can’t be good at any. fot spinning goes, it’s incredibly floppy and just feels like a 20$ Walmart rod. For baitcasting, it’s handle is just completely awful and feels so unnatural. The rod seems durable and “well made”, but from a feel perspective it feels like a floppy noodle you would expect from a crappy Walmart rod. The handle is an utter joke from its attempt to be available for 3 different reels. Honestly it’s a cool concept and some of the other products look like they don’t have some of these issues but this one right here simply tries to be useable in so many different catagories that it’s nothing more than useable. UPDATE: I went with the smuggler rod and it’s much better. Handle is much better and has more guides. I feel like the non-fly fishing capability makes it way more practical thus not sacrificing any cast/spinning ability. ... show more
