I'm a service manager for a plumbing company and this little machine is one of the few drain machines my guys like. Its clean, compact, and gets the job done for drains up to two inch. We have used it also to go through three inch traps and some 4" drains that are hard to access with larger machines, but i would target 2" or smaller stoppages with this machine. ... show more

First and foremost, if you are not a 250 pound weight lifter like my husband, this is not going to be an easy job and having a snake is not going to save you from all the hard work and how smelly it is. Even my husband was sweating profusely in our air-conditioned house and he’s in very very good shape. In terms of working properly and the weight of the snake, it’s functional and relatively lightweight snake, even for me. I’m 5’2 and 115lbs. But snaking out a drain is never easy and it always smells disgusting. 🤮 This machine works well. The vacuum like tubing that comes with it is for nothing. The hard plastic see-through covering it has over the snake, is kind of a pain in the butt. It’s just supposed to look nice, but it prevents you from wrapping the snake back up properly when you’re through. ... show more

Average do it yourselfer and it is Saturday morning, and I have just snaked three drains in under an hour… Clean as a whistle, both the drains and me. A word to the wise, always let the tool do the work, never force it. This type of tool is as much finesse as it is anything else. Concerning a bend in the pipe, when you feel resistance, with the cable still spinning free, let off the advance and let it catch by gently moving/pushing it by hand into the turn. Don’t force it through the turn, you will tangle and knot. When it “catches”, continue through with the advanced lever. Same thing with a stubborn clog, don’t try and power through, ease off and “chip” away at it then continue on through when you can. Again, as with any tool, don’t force it and let the tool do the job. Also, be sure to read the manual before you use it. It has a few very helpful tips on how to use it. read the manual. I love this thing, I may go do a few neighbors drains for fun😁💦 ... show more

After purchasing an older house we had several sewer back up issues .. we have a home warranty and it costs $75 for someone to come and snake the pipes but often times it takes 24-48-72h. I bought a manual snake and it did not work for my sewer line so I decided to get this one. One Saturday our main sewer backed up and I was able to use this one to at least get it going back to a usable state.. we eventually had to have a plumber come with a heavier duty one and we hydrojetted the main sewer line to better clean the roots but with a family with 2 little kids I can't afford to wait days when my main clogs. My trusted plumber came and I joked saying that I should buy a snake like his (I actually almost did buy the bigger model) but he told me that there is no reason a home owner needs something bigger than this model. I know I have an issue on my main line so I need to fix it .. This weekend my kitchen sink was clogged.. I was hopping it was the p-trap.. nope. it was further down the line.. I got this bad boy out and was able to clean the clog in 10 minutes. So far I have used it 4 times, 2 sewer lines and 2 kitchen .. that is 4x$75 for me so do the math. I like how easy it is to use, go slow.. back and forth and it cleans mostly all common clogs. ... show more

Cleaned and opened drains in both the kitchen and my bathrooms. Gloves are a definite must with this tool; the black gunk that comes out of drains is gross and will stain skin and clothing alike. I’m a 68 yo female but have always been a DIY’er if possible. I have a cordless drill that I’ve used a snake with before but it’s a PITA and very heavy! I wanted something easier to hold and more powerful and this Ridgid fit the bill. I had to pull cable back and forth several times when it slowed down or ran into a hair clog and I also went the full length of the cable and retracted it, twice, just the make sure I got the drain completely open. Great purchase, I feel I got my moneys worth for less than a plumber’s charge! Would definitely buy again and highly recommend! ... show more

    • Vibration and Retraction Problem

This unit seemed to be very solid, made from good-quality materials, and appeared to be thoughtfully designed. so I was reassured after I opened the box. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long. I followed the instructions, but the protective flexible hose that covers the steel snake kept falling off due to the machine’s vibrating. The vibration wasn’t excessive, about what one would expect from a machine like this. I got it fully unreeled inside the kitchen sink drain, then retracted it. Poured water down the drain, but no luck. Tried it again, but this time, reacting it was difficult. Then again, but retracting it was a problem once more. On the final try, I couldn’t get the cable to go back inside the housing, and it took over 30 minutes to get what I could back inside and on the reel. I had to send it back with about five feet of cable hanging out of it. Happily, the return went fine, so I wasn’t disappointed by that. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this product. Maybe with a few tweaks this could be a winner, and at a good price. But not now. ... show more

I was skeptical at first as all these guys were saying how garbage this tool is... yeah the hose guard pops off alot my suggestion put a hose clamp on it... other then that the tool did the job unclogged both my bathroom sinks that every liquid plumber in a bottle couldn't touch... operation is super easy if you can run a drill you can operate this machine... my other bit of advice when you hit the clog stop feeding just sit there a second and drill into the clog then start feeding again... I ran both my drains the full 30 feet the machine would go... my house wad built in the 60's I have cast iron pipes this little machine put a whole lot of money in installing new plumbing or calling out plumbing guys to snake it for me to the back burner... one day I'll have to replace my pipes but not today... thanks for another quality machine rigid... ... show more
