The kit and pipe cutter is not for this unit according to RIDGID themselves. Those are probably for the k400 ridged... He also told me that Home depot website also has the wrong listing! My pipes were solid, likely with hardened lye and calcium. Patiently, using this snake, drilling centimeter per centimeter, after about 4 hours I finally cleared the down drain, then another 3 for the upstairs. I do not think any plumber would have taken the time to clean it out. They would have put a sharp head on their auger and likely broke it off in curve or in the calcium. I would have paid them at least $800 and risked thousands ripping out walls to replace all the pipe. There is another unit cheaper at harbor freight, but you probably get what you pay for. Having anything break while using it would be a nightmare. Even if the motor died, I doubt it would possible to get it out. I could not get the guide attached because of a bolt. It seems like I had more essential tactile feedback using my bare hands. I could half tell if it was feeding. I definitely could feel when it stopped oscillating and needed a quick reverse, which seemed to break up a centimeter or few and allow a little more feed. Nevertheless, it was hard to really know if it was feeding into the pipe, if I was really making progress, or if it was just bouncing back into the machine when I went to grab a different part of the snake. I would rain bow color the snake or invent something to make it easier to tell if progress is made during a slog clog stretch of pipe. ... show more

I don't like the plastic, I wish they made it out medal, that's why i it gave a three and the ridgid t-240 tool kit does not work with it do not buy the tool kit with this unit

When you are laying on your back trying to guide the snake with one hand and using your other hand to squeeze the feed lever you will be aggravated by the need to push on the air switch using your knee or shoulder. A definite nuisance. And using the feed extender piece is dubious because the piece separates as the rubber coupling is ineffective and comes apart. I had a hell of a time untangling the snake from my shirt when it uncoupled, unbeknownst to me, and wrapped itself around my shirt . The combination of the guide uncoupling and my shoulder on the air switch led to a Three Stooges moment. The snake itself works well enough once you get used to it's quirks. ... show more

I am sure the tool will work just fine for small jobs. But I was disappointed that the bundled cutter will not work with the tool, the head on the cable isn't detachable. If I am missing something please let me know, but I see no way to change the head. After purchasing an older house we had several sewer back up issues .. we have a home warranty and it costs $75 for someone to come and snake the pipes but often times it takes 24-48-72h. I bought a manual snake and it did not work for my sewer line so I decided to get this one. One Saturday our main sewer backed up and I was able to use this one to at least get it going back to a usable state.. we eventually had to have a plumber come with a heavier duty one and we hydrojetted the main sewer line to better clean the roots but with a family with 2 little kids I can't afford to wait days when my main clogs. My trusted plumber came and I joked saying that I should buy a snake like his (I actually almost did buy the bigger model) but he told me that there is no reason a home owner needs something bigger than this model. I know I have an issue on my main line so I need to fix it .. This weekend my kitchen sink was clogged.. I was hopping it was the p-trap.. nope. it was further down the line.. I got this bad boy out and was able to clean the clog in 10 minutes. So far I have used it 4 times, 2 sewer lines and 2 kitchen .. that is 4x$75 for me so do the math. I like how easy it is to use, go slow.. back and forth and it cleans mostly all common clogs. ... show more

I was trying to clear a stubborn clog in a pool skimmer that had no suction. Tried everything - drain king, manual pipe snake, and sewer rod. I even attempted to buy a sewer jetter but the vendor recommended against using it for pools since it will not have enough power underwater. Due to COVID-19, I could not get a plumber or pool technician to come out and clear it. I knew it was definitely a clog because I ran a boroscope into the pipe and it showed pine needles, sand, and leaves clogging up the pipe. Then I came upon this gem. I ruined a $30 manual pipe snake while attempting to clear this clog so I was very skeptical based on the negative reviews about throwing down over $150+ on another one. However, after watching some YouTube videos and looking over positive reviews, it sounded like the people who had negative reviews were winding back the pipe snake while it was stuck thus bending it. I kept that in mind after purchasing it. During the first try, it hit a snag on the pipe elbow and was stuck in the debris. I avoided trying to yank it out like how I did with the manual pipe snake. I just kept running it further into the pipe, pulling and pushing along the way. Eventually I slowly pulled it back manually, again, pushing and pulling the snake along the way and was finally able to pull it out. A lot of pine needles came out but the skimmer was still clog. Knowing this was a stubborn clog, I knew it would not work in one shot. But now that I got the hang of it without bending the pipe snake, I gave it a couple more tries. It cleared the clog.
