  • missing hardware, almost returned, but came out alright
Color: Black
Well, the stool works but I went through some hardships. I read the instructions wrong and tried to force the machine screws in holes meant for tapping screws for the top circle. Went together pretty easy after that. Can't believe I did that. It started with this... I received 5 short bolts and 3 long bolts when I should have received 4 of each. I went to Home Depot and had to buy a screw. That was the only problem. It does wobble a bit, but I am going to try put some type of shim in on of the leg stands to even that out. We'll see. Good luck to you. ... show more

  • Not as comfortable as hoped, but it seems to be a keeper
Color: Black
This is an initial review written after sitting on the stool for ten minutes, to be updated if I find there are any functional problems with the stool. I'd probably give this stool a 4.5 right now, if I could, but definitely not a 5, so 4 it is. I've been looking for a sturdy, _comfortable_ stool for a couple years--I am a small store owner and my employees are tough on my behind-the-counter stools. I've tried wooden stools, metal stools, expensive pneumatic seats, just about everything. So this is a review based on experience with many other bar-height stools and chairs. Comfort: When I saw the photo of this stool, I thought it would have a good 3-4 inches of padding. I wondered why, in the photos, the seat didn't appear to be compressing under the people sitting in it. I should have read the reviews more carefully. The seat is HARD, but not as hard as the Craftsman stool I am replacing. After sitting here for ten minutes, I'm not in pain, but it's not the comfy seat I expected. It is nice that it doesn't have a back, so people of all sizes can sit on it. I have employees ranging from scrawny to rather hefty, so this has been an issue with some of the stools/chairs I've tried. Assembly: I noticed that some people mentioned the stool is difficult to put together. I can't comment on this personally--I took one rare half-day off work and came back to find the stool behind the counter this morning. It must not have been overly difficult, my employees managed it without even mentioning it to me... but they're pretty resourceful. Height: This stool is TALL! It's the tallest "bar height" stool I've purchased so far by at least a couple inches. I believe the other stools have been around 28" rather than 30", and I'm surprised by the difference two inches makes. I'm 5'3" with longish legs for my height and while sitting completely on the stool I can't reach the ground. My feet do fit comfortably on the bottom rung, though. If I were much shorter, I think I would have a little trouble climbing onto the stool. I initially thought the sitting height would be about the same because the seat would compress, but as mentioned above, it does not do so at all. The height is actually a positive for me, because the 28" stools I've been buying haven't given me quite enough height to easily see over the register monitor. Stability: As a business owner, I'm concerned about liability issues, so as I've been sitting here, I've been swaying back and forth a bit to test the stool's stability. So far it is very stable and I have no concerns about it tipping over under normal use. Our last stool, the above-mentioned Craftsman, had issues with the detachable feet coming off the legs and my employees would joke about it being the death of them one day. This stool's legs are just rubber caps, so I expect they'll stay on nicely. Swivel: The swivel functionality wasn't a requirement for a stool for my purposes, but it's nice. So far it swivels fairly smoothly and without trouble. I do feel some very minor vibration, though (from the ball bearings?), so I wonder if that will be a problem in the future. Overall: This stool seems to be of high quality at this time. If the seat were more comfortable, it would be a solid five right now, in March 2016. If you're reading this past late-2016 and I haven't updated it, then it means the stool has lasted at least that long. I like it enough right now that if my employees don't complain about it, I'll buy another one. ... show more

  • A very sturdy, American made bar stool at a good price
Color: Black
I purchased 26 of the Budget Bar Stools 0-1952BLK for a commercial bar.. I initially ordered 1 to check the quality & after assembling and giving it a good stress test, I ordered and received an additional 25 units. The stools are very sturdy have that classic bar stool look that I was looking for. The stools are packaged well, only 1 of the boxes had some crush damage but resulted to no damage to any of the stool components. All holes were drilled properly and the proper amount of fasteners were included for each stool. The fasteners are all high quality & the nuts are self locking and need no loctite to keep them tight. I assembled the first few according to the instructions but changed the sequence slightly to make things easier... Make sure you have a #3 bit phillips head screw driver to fit the screws properly or it will be more difficult.. One of the reviewers remarked on the sharp edges on the swivels.. They are indeed very sharp from the shearing process. I removed the sharp edges with a small file on each swivel as the first step in the assembly, it takes about a minute or two but am glad I did it..You can feel the sharp edge while sitting on the seat if you try.. Other than that the swivels are of very good made in America quality..Some other manufacturers charge $10-12 extra for quality USA made swivels, with these you get the good swivel as standard. After that I followed the instructions except that I put the top ring on first & then the bottom ring. The top ring can be difficult to get into place if you put it on after the bottom.. One thing that is lacking in the instructions is a proper leveling procedure..Almost all of mine needed some leveling but is no problem once you know the procedure. Once everything is tightened down & before you put the glides on you should check for levelness. Put the stool on a very level floor on a table top with a newspaper spread on it to prevent scratching the table. Check to see if the stool sits level.. If not, determine the 2 shortest legs..Working diagonally. grasp the the far leg with both hands with the near leg against your shoulder , give the legs a controlled bear hug..You will feel the legs bend slightly.. Don't go much, just a little will take out the biggest wobble.. Once happy with the levelness, install the glides making sure they are all the way on . Recheck levelness, if its is not level now one or more of the glides aren't on all the way.. I would recommend checking the screws for tightness once after some use, maybe after a month or two in a home or a week two in a commercial setting. I am removing one star due to the sharp edges & the poor leveling instructions.. I pretty sure the manufacturer knows the procedure for leveling but was worried about the consumer over bending the legs, so if you do it, do it carefully.. Bubba ... show more
