Very pleased with purchase!

I purchased this water heater from Silver State Manuals as a returned/dented item. I had previously purchased an inexpensive unit from eBay and it was just total junk. I guess my first clue should have been when the shipping weight of the previous eBay unit was 29 pounds and the Rheem unit weighs in at 74 pounds. Installation was straightforward, but the control unit displayed an error and the unit would not start up. I contacted Rheem, and they were very helpful in troubleshooting and solving my issue. It seems the unit was in a locked status, probably due to being turned on before the venting was properly installed. The tech stated that happens a lot. Make sure you have it completely ready to go before you turn it on! I assume the previous purchaser must have done that and the unit locked. Seeing the dented case, that is probably why it was returned. The damage was all superficial, the internal frame and quality of the unit is great and nothing was damaged internally. After executing the reset procedure, the unit started right up and works perfectly! I was surprised at how quiet the unit is and it does heat up instantly. I believe I am going to be very pleased with this water heater and recommend you spend the money for a quality heater as the cheap models available just are not worth the headache!

Great Tankless Water Heater

So there were limited reviews on this and wanted to throw mine out there as I know reviews are important especially expensive products like this. So I have a 1000SF house with a washer, dishwasher, kitchen sink, and 1 bathroom. I can't really say if all these were running at the same time whether the hot water would run out, but most people don't so there's that. I can say that it get's up to 120 degress max. It might get more. as I hadn't fully explored the system, but out of the box that's it's max. I believe it could go higher, just not sure. There is never a time using this that I run out of hot water, say using the shower. My girlfriend, she's so great haha has taken almost 50min showers and she put's it on almost all hot, barley any cold mix. So it last that long. Watch YouTube videos you would think that you would get hot water in 10 seconds or less but that's not the case. It creates hot water immediately from the unit, but that water has to travel the line. I didn't have much of a choice of where the unit was placed, hence it's far away from the bathroom and kitchen. I'd say it has to run 50LF+ of line. So it takes maybe a good 20 to 30 seconds before you get the hot water. Anyways, I think it's great and has saved a little on my bills. I have it placed in my crawlspace. as it is dug out, which is unconventional for a crawlspace, so it's almost like a basement, but of dirt. I have it drawing air inside there, and not outside the house. I have had no problems doing that, so I didn't have to drill a hole to route the pipe outside the house to draw air into the unit.

Starting the heater

There is nothing straight forward about the startup. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't. I've had to unplug the unit and restart it several times to get it to respond to the power on button. and then getting it up to 140° is another multi-step process that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

Very nice. Plenty of hot water 💧

Insulation was easy. Pex piping Made it much easier. Replacing a tank water heater also helped. Went to home depot to get exhaust tubeing. Spoke to several people at home depot who said oh no, you cannot use p v c pipe on that. So stop by city hall to speak with Someone who said oh yes, you Can ,you could even use rubber seal from Plumbing places that reduces from three inch 2 inch pipe. I also used the existing exhaust from my old tank heater that vented out the roof. Ran the intake into the attic then called it done. Start up was no prob. Hot water for days if I wanted.

Great product

This is the second one of these we purchased. I have bought four tankless water heaters over the last 10 years. First one failed quickly from not being installed exactly as necessary to keep unit from destroying itself with corrosive condensation. Second one was a little undersized. Finally purchased this model that lasted for several years but learned my lesson about hard water and regular cleaning. We loved this one so much that we got it again, which made Installation much easier than first time. The ducting is very different from a tradition tank water heater and requires ducting for exhaust and intake of fresh air. It is so efficient that is uses pvc which is much easier to work with. It puts out lots of hot water. We can run 3 showers at once non stop and never run out of hot water. We installed a descaler on the incoming water side and could tell a difference in the particles that were previously clogging our showers and slowly damaging the heat exchanger in the tankless heater. We are seriously considering a water softener this time with the water heater to extend its life.

Great upgrade, everything I could ask for

Upgraded from an electrical unit and it was well worth it. The previous unit was a tankless electric unit so it took up 6 spots (3 double pole) breakers and I wanted to get some space back in my panel, not to mention seeing over 24kw of energy being used when the shower was running. switched over to gas and I'm very happy. Install was easy coming from another tankless, but even if I was replacing a tank, it would have been fine. PVC venting was easy and only issue that came up arose when I found out that my gas meter had been replaced with a higher pressure unit at some point, so I had to add a regulator at the last minute. worthwhile upgrade, especially if your gas company has rebates

Less than a year old and throws error

I have installed quite a few of these and even have one in my home. I usually talk about how great these things are but there is one issue I have been seeing consistently and I am very frustrated. As someone who knows what he is doing, I do not understand why the tankless is throwing these errors. It is throwing error code "12" which means "Flame Failure". Could be not enough gas, could be dirty flame rods. On mine at home, I have plenty of gas, a three-stage filter and a saltless water softener. I descale to perfection and found almost none. This unit has been EXTREMELY well maintained and yet I am getting this failure. Really really disappointed about this.

Rheem condensing tankless

Maybe a bit overkill as we only have 1 bathroom, but our water gets very cold so we needed the rise capacity. Install was straight forward, extremely quiet. In other comments people mentioned a bad vibration, we don't have that. Ours is in the laundry room with a sink, if the sink is on you can't hear this running. Extremely happy with this, should have done it sooner.
