  • ArkOS with EmulationStation and RetroArch - Worth every penny, but be prepared to curate romlist
Color: Black
It is a well built open source RG36 handheld running ArkOS and EmulationStation on a Rokchip (afaik). I have very large hands and after finding a decent grip it fits the hands well. It handles PSX and PSP quite well, as well as N64 (which is notoriously unstable and slow). The three USB C ports are very useful, am getting a set of usbc headphones for it because the speaker is quite loud for what I expected. I have a messenger bag that I've taken to using for all my stuff and it fits well in there, along with my phone, keys, wallet, cigarettes and vape. The battery life is pretty good, a solid 4 hours of playtime which should suffice for most situations, so it's pretty portable. Gonna grab my battery bank and take it camping and see how well I feel it lasts out in nature. As an avid jrpg player, this is perfect for nostalgic trips down memory lane. Regarding the game variety, however, it suffers the same problem that many goodsets suffer; for several systems it's many, many duplicates of games. However, this is easily rectifiable as the game partition on the included SD card is in FATx, so you can pop it into a windows computer and don't need to install any of the linux support software for windows to edit the roms (system partition is some linux filesystem, and I've not had the need to install any of the linux support software for mounting linux filesystem images so I don't know which, proably ex4 or whatever). After a few hours of dealing with the roms, I freed up quite a bit of space and was able to populate the device with some of my own backups, and if you know jrpgs, we're talking quite a few multi-disc roms. Generating the M3U playlist to consolidate them as whole games is trivial, and I'm hyped to have an excuse to play through the classics again. The OTHER benefit is that the installed doom engine for retroarch is LZDooM, so you can play limit removing wads that take advantage of the advanced features available to ZDooM ports. If you know, you know. I didn't know what port it was running, so I haven't put Legacy of Rust on it yet, but afaik ZDooM and LoR don't play too well together, and I'm unsure if you can edit launch switches to set compatibility mode for the wad to mbf21 or not, and since I don't usually mess with compatibility modes I'm not sure if you can use the menu to set it or not. I am interested to test PS2 and Xbox emulation on the device, I'm not hopeful, at least not with Xbox, but if PS2 emulation is even halfway decent, there are soooo many good PS2 jrpgs that are going to get slapped on this bad little boi. Seeing as how I lack a disc drive, ripping my own backups of ps2 and xbox games is not possible, so, I get to look for those and download them. Does NOT have wifi, and I'm assuming no BT but I don't really use BT for much so I've had no cause to test it, so if you want to use RetroArch's ability to scrape for game media (the boxart the screenshots and demo videos) you'll need to hook up a wifi adapter through the USBC OTG port (it had a dedicated OTG usbc port, so if you have a USBC hub, you can hook up keyboard, mouse, thumbsticks/drive adapters, wifi/bt dongles, more sd cards, get hdmi at least theoretically, haven't tested HDMI over the OTG USBC, partly because I lack a USBC dongle, partly because I just remembered my microusb hub has an HDMI port and then remembered that HDMI over USBC is a thing). Overall, I am SUPER happy with my purchase, especially since I got another $5 off, bringing the price down to $45. For the price, I don't think you're going to find better bang for your buck without significantly more work. The slapdash romlist was not a surprise, a LOT of chinese shovelware, but again, not a surprise. Just be prepared with your own roms, get them ready like you would for any other installation of retroarch, and you're in for a nice little treat. I can't wait to go early for a good parking spot to sit and wait for my kid to get out of school now lol, always a good excuse to boot up some random games. ... show more

  • Good, just wouldn't take memory card
Wouldnt take my 32 gb san disc memory card for some reason, but was still able to save pokemon progress. I was a little worried bc I opened pokemon in GBA, & I couldn't see the keyboard or menu selections, so I tried all the buttons and L1/R1 changed the view so I could see the "bottom screen", but its like a combination you just have to keep clicking them to figure out.. There isn't a detailed diagram of key commands, some games you just have to button mash to figure out. Select or start for the arcade games to "insert token". I dont know what the center button with FN under it does, but it has a little blue pinhole light under it thats always on; That I find annoying on devices/appliances, but whatever. The Select+Down DPad save appears to work as it has a tiny pop up; And in the pokemon games at least, the in-game save option works fine and I used that. Hitting the reset button (right next to the power button) doesn't delete saved games, just resets the console; I have had to use it a few times bc some games will freeze on black screen. No big deal, reset works fine. Does come on at full volume & brightness tho, which is a little jarring when I think I've just powered it off.. The lights around the sticks aren't necessary for me, kind of just use more battery but also whatever, they're fun. Adds to the arcade feel. Really cool to have a "Gameboy" with analog sticks. Using them in Pokémon is nice. Lots of good stuff on here. Probably 5 years ago or so, I got my dad one of those mini retro pre-loaded Atari emulators; Really cool to have something like this now. I've been getting some cell phone games but there are so many extra clicks and ads for the store, before even getting to play the game; And then its like 30 seconds of gameplay that is far too easy and then a minute ad, or one that you can't even close out of, so this thing is awesome. Simple, fun Galaga-style games and bubble pop/match, plus side scrollers like Batman, MegaMan, Dragon Ball..I've been saving favorites and then you can have it choose one at random for you, which is fun. I mostly got it for break at work where we're not allowed to have our phones. I especially love that its similar to the greenish Gameboy Color I used to have. The screen is beautiful. The buttons/sticks all feel good. Not many games that use the triggers so far but they're cool. Light weight. Pocket arcade/gameboy. 5* so far. I'd love to have EvoCreo on it, but its a mobile game.. Nice little emulator ... show more

  • DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY?
I was so excited about this. I bought this and it worked for two weeks then all of a sudden the screen stopped coming on but the lights were still coming on when you turned on the device. Then two days later the plastic screen just fell off. So a waste of money! DO NOT BUY!

  • A Fantastic And Affordable EDC Handheld A Fantastic And Affordable EDC Handheld
I picked this up to have a compact and inexpensive EDC gaming device for my work/travel satchel. I wanted something highly portable and inexpensive that wouldn't be the end of the world if it got lost, broken or stolen. I also wanted something with a games library preinstalled. Went with the RG36 Pro because it checked all the boxes and also because they offer it in a really cool looking dark green. For whatever reason, green is a color rarely offered on any hand held console at any price. The RG36 Pro arrived very well boxed and packaged from the seller. This little thing is so freaking great! Suits my needs perfectly. Thousands upon thousands of great retro console and arcade classic games ready to play right out of the box, easy to navigate menus, a very colorful and bright screen, clear sound and surprisingly responsive controls. And tons of Youtube reviews and tutorials available to learn how to get the most out of it. The simplest and easiest way to enjoy this device is to just scroll through the game libraries for each retro console and then hit the Y button to save each selected game to a "Favorites" list. Then you can just go straight to your Favorites library from there. For me personally, the RG36 Pro was more than worth it just for Asteroids Deluxe let alone all the other incredible games in my Favorites library. Buy with total confidence, the RG36 Pro is a really cool and super fun to play compact hand held that comes with a massive game library and offers a way better gaming experience than I was expecting at an unbeatable price. If you're looking at one of these as an affordable gift for a kid or adult that loves video games trust me, they'll absolutely love it. I hope this review was helpful to you! ... show more

  • Plan on updating sd card
Color: Purple
So, the first thing to know is that this device is a clone/knockoff. Luckily, it has the ram and processing power of the original system. None of these budget emulators are going to run all ps1 and n64 games. That's not realistic. Second, the memory card shipped with this is very cheap and likely to fail. That goes for all of these budget emulators. You can replace it yourself. There are lots of tutorials on how to do that and change up the game library. It uses USBC for its audio jack. All that being said, I was able to swap the card and customize it. I've been really pleased with it so far. I feel like I got my money's worth for what it is. I saw some other review about single save files? Haven't had that issue, but I updated the OS when I upgraded the card. So, this is a decent little device but expect to update the memory card. ... show more

  • Great device. Worth buying.
Color: Black
This thing is worth $47. Simple as that. If you're on the fence about buying one, I'd say go for it. It boots up and runs a pile of games just fine without any issues that I've noticed thus far. It's nice having all the games I played as a kid on one easy to use device. The device is well built for the price and doesn't seem like it's made out of extremely cheap materials like many may expect. It's pretty sturdy. The weight and size is decent, though I kind of wish I bought a bigger device. Not the biggest fan of the joystick buttons either, but that's just personal preference. They work just fine on every game I've tried. Upsides: Easy to use. Enormous variety of games. Games run and save just fine. Battery lasts long enough to never be a problem. Downsides: The LED lights around the two joystick buttons do not turn off, ever. There is no option to turn these lights off and they are annoying. If you are playing this at night, prepare to be blinded by them because they are very bright. Allegedly the only way to turn them off is to take apart the device and actually break stuff. Hundreds of the games available are not properly named either, so searching for them is impossible. This hasn't been a big deal for me, because I've only noticed it on obscure games I don't care to play anyway, but it might be a problem for someone else. All of the "big name" games though are properly named and easy to find. There are a ton of duplicates also in the games, mostly with different languages. If you search for a specific game, you might have 10 results come up with the same name and you'll have to try each one to figure out which is in your preferred language. Overall I give this thing a solid 4/5. Would recommend buying. ... show more

  • Really surprised with the value.
Color: Black
I was skeptical but this thing is probably the best value of any handheld device below $200 The UI could use a bit of work and there are quite a few duplicate titles. Like the same ones over 14 times in the 8-16 bit consoles. But I imagine cleaning up some of this off the SD could help with that. It also helped when I learned that you can rapidly scroll through titles with L1 or R1. N64 emulation is surprisingly playable but there are quirks. The R2 button is mapped as Z but appears to be natively an axis input that is shared with the B button. While playing Mario Kart, using an item temporarily lets off the accelerator even while holding the button. The internal speaker is really cheap and sounds like a tin can, but if you turn the volume down it doesn’t clip too badly. It isn’t perfect but it comes pre-loaded with SO many major titles. I wish it had more PSP/PS1/NDS games but I at least understand the limitations of it not having a touch screen or second screen for the latter. The LCD is surprisingly good and has a strong backlight. The build quality seems decent and I haven’t noticed any real issues there. It has 3 USB-C ports on the bottom. One seems to be for data, another to charge and the third I guess is for headphones? I haven’t tested to see if video output or external controllers are supported. Don’t sleep on this. If nothing else, it’s worth the massive game library. ... show more

  • A Nostalgic Powerhouse in Your Pocket
Color: Purple
I recently picked up this Retro Handheld Game Console, and wow—it totally surprised me with its crisp screen and buttery-smooth gameplay. Packed with thousands of classics from platforms like PlayStation, Nintendo, Sega, and more, it's like holding my childhood in my hands. Firing up old favorites like Mario or Zelda instantly brought back those happy memories from simpler times—no lag, just pure fun. The build feels great: comfy grip, responsive buttons, and a bright display that makes everything pop, even in dim light. Battery lasts 6-8 hours, perfect for long sessions on the go. The menu's a bit clunky at first, and speakers are meh (headphones help), but for the price, it's a steal. Pros: Amazing visuals, flawless performance, endless games, portable joy. Cons: Average sound. If you're craving retro vibes, grab one—it's rekindled my love for gaming. 5 stars! ... show more
