There are a ton of one star reviews made by people who should have just had a bike shop assemble their bike for them. I want to address some of the common things people list as bad features of this bike and give you my experience. False Claim #1: The crank arms are too long and they do not allow the front wheel to turn. These people have not turned the front fork around before attaching the handlebars. My unit came with arrow stickers on the fork to indicate, very obviously, the direction that the forks are supposed to be placed before attaching the handle bars and front wheel. False Claim #2: The pedals are difficult to install, or only screw in half way. The pedals in my experience didn't require tools at all to tighten and screw in. The pedals AND crank arms both come with stickers to indicate which is right and which is left. The pedals can only be installed on the correct crank arm. They are threaded oppositely so that they tighten as you ride. If you install them backwards it will be very obviously difficult and may not even screw in at all. It will also cause you to strip the threads, thus making you require a new crank arm. Other complaints that are silly... The color was not as advertised: You are silly and if the color of the bike is going to make or break your experience. You definitely aren't intelligent enough to put a bike together by yourself. The tires don't come inflated: Inflate them then? If you want everything done for you, then buy a bike from a shop, not something you have to assemble yourself. The tires popped quickly,: If you take a second to read the manual that comes with this bike, it tells you in no uncertain terms that riding this bike without filling the tires to the proper pressure can easily cause flats. You also must be careful when going over bumps, cracks, and watch out for debris. This bike has no shock absorption and common sense would tell anyone that it makes this bike require slightly more care when riding. Make sure you aren't over the weight limit as well. The bike is hard to pedal: What do you think a bike with one speed is going to be like? Buy a bike with more gearing if you have toothpicks for leg muscles. This is more a criticism of your physical fitness then the bike itself. This bike is heavy: Says who? I can easily lift this bike with one hand. This is more a criticism of your physical fitness then the bike. After x years a part on my bike broke: Wow, really? You mean things break over time with use? Want something that will last forever? I recommend you start looking in a fictional universe where unbreakable materials exist. If you have had a bike for years, you shouldn't be shocked or blame the manufacturer when something breaks. Years of stress on components cause problems. Things have lifespans. This is more a criticism of you having unrealistic expectations. Buy an extended warranty plan if you are one of these people. There are cheap and generous in their coverage. I personally don't have a warranty because I'm an adult and I can work out how to replace something myself if it breaks. ~~~ MY REVIEW ~~~ The bike came with a large hole in the box, which was most definitely caused during shipping. A little more foam insulation wouldn't hurt though, especially around the front wheel. There were no defects in the paint on my unit which I was glad about, after seeing so many other people's photos. The bike was relatively simple to put together, just make sure you pay careful attention to the assembly instructions. You are reading the assembly instructions right? After assembly I took the bike on a roughly 20 mile ride to see if everything was functioning as it was supposed to be. It rides fine in my experience, and can be quite fast on flat ground, with only mild difficulty getting up fairly steep grades (experience will differ depending on physical fitness). Overall I was impressed with the quality of this bike considering its price. Its a good deal. There was one issue during my ride, and that was one of the pedals came loose (didn't fall off or anything). This was most likely because I didn't tighten it down enough, and has not happened again after a quick tightening. I had no need for a bike shop's assistance, and anyone with a brain who receives this bike in an undamaged state I reckon will have a similar experience. I will rate this bike a 4 out of 5, because for the price is it great, but the quality is overall good, but not perfect. What else would you expect from a bike priced so cheap? ... show more

With the mostly positive reviews, I gave this bike a shot. Bad idea. If I could give it less stars, I would. Firstly, the front brake cable sits too high and prevents you from turning because it hits into the bike frame. I removed the front brake because I wanted to do fixed style anyways, but then I noticed the other glaring problem that you can see in the photo. The pedal cranks are so long that the hit into the tire and create a wench and I nearly flipped my bike the first time I tried it. The positives? It’s a nice looking bike if you never plan on riding it. Now I have it opened and assembled, so I don’t even know if I can return it! Another positive? The media could not be loaded. I’m not the only one writing about this issue but this bike is a huge safety hazard. The wheels are too big that it gets caught in the pedals even when turning the handle bars just a little bit (see video). The photo I took shows how close the front wheel is to the frame compared to the picture the sellers posted. I’ve almost face-planted a couple times while riding this bike. I had contacted them asking for a partial refund so that I can take it to the bike shop and get the tires replaced but they denied my request. If you’re thinking about buying this bike, I would spend a little more money going for a more quality bike because you will end up spending more money getting this bike fixed. ... show more

I recently moved to an area where daily bike commuting has become an option for me, so I'm only just getting back into riding a bike - My review is written from that frame of reference. Also, I'm rating it 5 stars based on value (obviously there are better bikes, but none that can even remotely compete at this price level). I've been using this bike as a daily commuter for about five months now. This bike is AWESOME for $199. I challenge you to find another bike remotely close to the quality of this one for the same price (besides used/self-built). I wasn't ready to invest the time/effort into hunting for a used bike (with potential issues) nor do I have the expertise to comfortably build a bike from the ground up. My goal was to find an affordable, decent quality, good-looking, simple and comfortable daily commuter for a relatively flat area. Critical totally delivered on every front. Unboxing/Assembly:The bike came well-packaged and assembly was EXTREMELY straightforward. All necessary tools are included (though a phillips screwdriver is required to adjust/remove the reflectors). No, the tools aren't great quality, but you're buying a bike, not a tool kit. The brakes needed some adjustment to get the wheel clearance right (easily done with a single nut). Unboxing to road-ready was probably a 20-30 minute process at most, and would be intuitive to anyone who's ever assembled a piece of IKEA furniture. One key item that is not included is a bicycle pump to inflate the tires. If you don't have one, be sure to order one. Also, as others have said, if you're not experienced with bikes, take it by a shop/professional to have your work inspected. Material Quality/First Impressions: The bike frame is solid, has clean welds, and actually doesn't have much plastic on it at all. In fact the only plastic parts are the rings that attach the front and rear reflectors to the bike, the wheel reflectors (obviously), the brake-line clips and the pedals. I saw in other reviews that the pedals felt cheap to some, so I ordered an aluminum set for $12. Also, with reference to what some have said about the bike's weight: I don't have a good frame of reference here, but it's certainly not cumbersome. The whole package feels solid, reliable and trustworthy. It definitely "feels expensive," AND it looks AWESOME - It's really a fantastic looking bike. I went with "Sangria," which is a little more muted than it looks in the picture - closer to a faded crimson or maroon. Ride Quality: The ride is great, but it's definitely a road bike. The thin tires definitely let you know if you're on a poorly paved street and you do notice every bump. That's fine for my purposes, but if you're in an area with lots of cracked pavement and pot holes, this will shake you up. It took me a few days to work through the "saddle soreness," and the bike feels awesome now: It's quick, stable, easy to control, and the gear ratio is perfectly balanced for speed/ease of start/small hills. Overall: If you're in a similar position to me, and want something of decent quality that is handsome, simple, safe and great-looking, I would highly recommend this bike.
