There are a lot of retro handhelds out there right now. This one is pretty basic, as expected for the price. It does have a heaping helping of games preloaded so that’s cool. The AV to TV is a neat feature but i need to get some coax converters to use as I tragically don’t have a tv with those ports anymore. Upon powering on it asks if you want English or Chinese for the OS. The rest of the UI is pretty tragic. With the amount of stuff loaded on here you have to cycle through EVERYTHING to find what you might want to play (Unless i just haven’t figured out how to appropriately filter). It also does not have save states which is pretty rough and definitely one of the defining features of a good retro console. But, you’ll get the real old fashioned experience of losing all progress when quitting a game! So nostalgic! ... show more

Although I was a little disappointed in the quality of this console (the buttons feel hollow and the case bends with a slight grip), the volume of games inside were excellent. Many, many that were familiar. My only complaint is browsing the games can become tedious. Finding something beyond the first 20 or so is a chore. Luckily, pressing left or right on the d-pad jumps pages at a time. Still, I would love if I could favorite the games I tend to want to play more often and have them appear in a much smaller, easier to access list. Batter life is fine, not excellent, but you can't beat the value for the money. ... show more

I've never been a big video game player but I did play some of the classic games in my past. For the low cost, I decided to give this Retro Mini Game Machine,Handheld Game Console a try. It has a decent color screen and adequate sound. I suspect the game resolution is at least as good as the original consoles. Still, I found it difficult to make out objects in some games and my fingers kept getting tripped up on the controls. Many times I found my thumb in the middle of the 'joystick' control rather than on the side I was trying to press and got eaten. There also seemed to be a lag at times between pushing a button and the game responding but that could also have just been me. The game machine comes with minimal instructions and I had to figure it out by trial and error. Fortunately, if you find yourself somewhere you don't want to be, there is a reset button that takes you all the way back to the beginning. While unpacking, I was impressed that the battery is removable and you can easily find replacements or additional batteries for extended play. There is a volume control adjustment on the side which is handy but there isn't a headphone jack. Long trips with the game sound effects will probably cause problems in the car or on the plane. There is a cable for connecting the game to the composite video and audio on a TV but I found the picture quality to be poor and the cable length short. The claim is 400 games but there are many duplicates or almost identical versions of the same games so the number of unique games is much lower. The price is incredibly good so I'd still recommend this Retro Mini Game Machine. I'd give it 5 stars if it had a headphone jack. ... show more

It's a pretty awesome little unit, but it could have easily been designed with better features. The games are really great, some might even be the actual ROMs, and I like how the early resolution fit nicely on a small monitor, but some of the features could have been thought out a little better. The monitor on the handheld unit itself didn't seem to have any major issues, but I've seen a common problem with tiny screens like this and on MP3 players. I'm no expert, but I think it has a vertical polarization filter, so looking at it from different horizontal angles affects the brightness and color of what you see. Since it's being held very close to the user's face, each eye will see different brightness and color shades and I find that uncomfortable. Experimentally rotating it by 90 degrees gets rid of this issue so I think it's just the way they were manufactured, and there must be a reason for it, but it's very common. It says there are 400 games, but actually just during my first browse through the menu I noticed there are a lot of duplicate games. It seems kind of careless that nobody would notice this, maybe the software had 400 slots in the menu but there were not 400 games so they repeated them, that was a little disappointing. It's probably just my unit but I have trouble with the "left" direction on my controller, it doesn't work quite often and I need to press it very aggressively multiple times to get it to work. I wish it hand an input for an external controller, but it's awesome that you can use it with an external monitor. My only complaint about that feature is that the cord that came with it is very short and doesn't allow you to sit at a comfortable distance without an extension. The cord only contains a video and right channel audio wire since it is in mono. I can't comment on the life of the rechargeable battery yet, but it's awesome that it is replaceable and readily available. The enclosure is made very well, it is super light weight and plastic but decent quality molding. The interface takes some experimentation and getting used to. It's not obvious which button to hit but it's easy enough to figure out, however when you want to end a game, I can't figure out an easy way to go back to the main menu. I have to hit the reset button which just reboots the device and you have to start over by selecting the language, and the menu returns to the first position, so if you left off on game 200, there's a lot of scrolling to do! It is very fun and easy to carry around, and a great alternative to social media on your phone while in a waiting room or whatever. I really enjoy this unit, thank you. ... show more

This handheld console brings back so many memories with the gameboy feel playing all the retro games on it. It’s great to take with you to a restaurant, doctors office or anything that is time consuming. It can keep your little ones busy and entertained without even realizing how much time has passed by. My son loves Mario and this gives him the chance to play a couple of the classics and really get to know where it all began at. Its also great for the price ! ... show more
