  • Pure awesomeness!
Color: Black
This controller is the best Genesis controller for pc, and the mini, I have found. Holding an original Genesis controller and then this one you see how closely they have reproduced the original feel. I wanted the cable version as well, as that’s what the original had. It’s important to note that there are 2 modes you can switch between. One causes Steam to recognize the controller as a fully functional modern game pad (uses an Xbox template) However this mode does not use the “C” button by default. The other mode allows full remapping (enable generic gamepad and use that as controller type). On Steam, be sure to map the d pad as if it were a left analog stick which only uses an x and y axis instead of mapping the 4 directional buttons separately. Other than that, you can map the rest of the buttons however you want! I used remapping that sets it up as an original Genesis controller, utilizing the A, B and C buttons as they were on the console, but map however you want! All in all, I love it and have been having a blast! ... show more

  • Good quality but can't remap on Switch
Color: Black
A little warning for anyone like me who is looking to buy this to play Genesis titles on their switch. You cannot manually change the inputs as the switch doesn't let you and both Sega Genesis Classics and Sega Genesis Online don't have options for remapping controls. So while the controller works fine you can't use the actual Genesis controller layouts on switch. For example: In Streets of Rage, normally A is special B is attack and C is jump. But because of the default mapping on the controller A is jump, B is attack and Y is special. ... show more

Great controller

  • Works great on some platforms not as well on others.
Color: Black
I am rather surprised by the quality of this controller. It is certainly an upgrade for my Sega Mini. It also works well with the Switch -both the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Online. Unfortunately, it is very wonky on Steam. It takes a lot of tinkering before I got to work properly, and even then I had to do that every time, which is unfortunate. Still, at the current price, I am very happy I got this. ... show more

  • Retrobit Does What Nintendon't
Color: Black
What else can I say about the Genesis controller that hasn't already been said? It is the perfect size for adult hands, has tremendous button response, and the D-Pad does what Nintendo could only dream of. (Not saying the consoles weren't equal in terms of games.) The retrobit usb 8-button controller perfectly captures the sega level of quality from the early 90s, thus introducing the greatness of the Genesis to a whole new generation of fans. It works perfectly with my retropie Raspberry Pi system, and after some minor reprogramming, I can play the entire library of Genesis games like it's 1993 all over again. I was especially impressed with the fluidity of the button response (no snapping or popping here) and the substantial weight of the controller. You feel as if you can really hammer on it when playing TMNT or jerk on the D-Pad when playing Super Monaco GP without damaging it. Overall, I'm incredibly pleased with my purchase, and would encourage any retrogamer to do so as well. "Cowabunga dudes!" ... show more

  • One of the better ones
Color: Black
I've tried several of these retro-type PC game pads over the years. It's been fairly hit or miss when it comes to quality but it seems recently there's been an increase in the variety that has come out. Nowadays we even have a bunch of console specific ones rather than just generic PC gamepads. Most look good in the pictures but end up being cheap knock offs with shoddy controls and poor response when you actually play them. One of the better ones I tried was the iBuffalo SNES style pads but while those are very close, I now prefer this Genesis pad over that as my go to retro controller. While this does have the layout and feel of a Sega Genesis pad, with the additional l/r shoulder buttons it makes it versatile for pretty much anything sans analog sticks (which is what you'd expect). You also have the option to play fighting games with a true 6 button face layout which is something you can't do with most other pads. The buttons are a bit floaty which can be a preference. This is actually accurate to the real thing though. The d-pad is a bit on the floaty side as well. Subjectively I feel this might be a bit more than the original (more than the stock 3 button pad for sure) was but in any case it's looser than most pads (except maybe Logitech) but when it comes to actual play it doesn't hinder anything at all. Just use less mash and more roll. The d-pad is usually the weak link between a good and bad pad and I still think it's one of the better ones. All in all, this is a pretty solid pad and I'd recommend it especially if you like the layout of a Sega Genesis pad. I don't know if it's a 1:1 replica of the original but it's a decent pad regardless. ... show more
