abunda_amazon_reviews Perhaps I live in a society which embraces mediocrity, or maybe other buyers have never used the originals (the originals could vary in manufacturing region and quality); this controller feels "third-party". The plastic and button presses, shoulder buttons, and I doubt the longevity, esp. that of the D-pad, which, unlike the original, can mash straight downwards. I can tell by feel the differences between these and my MK-1653's (Made in Japan), SJ-6000, or MK-80116/HSS-0101 - the Saturn Model 2's. The originals are, subjectively, some of the best controllers for 2D gaming produced, so I wouldn't expect these to be truly comparable at this price. For casual players, I can see them being the best Genesis USB controllers for the money. The thing that gets me about this particular product is that they really push it as "Original Quality", which it isn't. It's (yet another) third-party controller which stands out by being officially-endorsed and getting the aesthetics right. How well has SEGA performed at cultivating quality in its products over the years, post-Genesis/Saturn/DC? It is compatible with the upcoming SEGA Genesis Mini, and it must be coincidence that the Mini has no 6-button controller included. It "looks good" and is functional enough, but not the same as using an original, which can be used with a USB adapter. I hope that the SEGA Genesis Mini's included 3-button controllers hold more to the original quality some used to know, and some still do.;;Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2019;;3.0 out of 5 stars;;An Average Controller with Pleasing Asthetics;;Goyinator;;;Don't bother playing Contra Hard Corps because its impossible to shoot up without moving left or right. The old three-button controller wasn't designed for advances in fighting games (e.g. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Eternal Champion), and this controller came to the rescue. I am happy to report that this is a spot-on recreation of the original controller. The feel, the weight, and the balance are almost exactly as they were nearly 25 years ago. Years later this controller is still impressive, and the USB interface means that you can use it to play new PC-based retro-style games like Bloodstained. Furthermore, unless something changes between now and September, we should be able to use this controller with the upcoming Sega Genesis Mini. The Mini features games that benefit from the six-button controller, but it ships with two three-button controllers instead (the Japanese version of the Mini ships with two six-button controllers--go figure). This controller can help bridge the gap. On one hand, I like the idea of playing older Genesis games with an authentic, launch-issued three-button controller, but it is good to know that I have the option of a six-button if I want it! Aside from a few USB converters, which are still very expensive, there we limited options to use the OEM gamepads. OEM gamepads for the system just adds more immersion, in my opinion. It's great to see that there are so many more options for hardware (not just the gamepads) as classic gaming seems to have gone from an obscure community of enthusiasts - programmers and gamers alike - to something everyone can enjoy. I have tried this gamepad with all the popular ways to retro-game without any problems with congiguration. It works flawlessly with my Raspberry Pi 3 B+ running Retroarch with the libretro cores. The controllers feel and respond very similar to the original 6 button controllers. The Sega Genesis Mini games that are designed for both 3 and 6 button controllers automatically recognize the controller as 6 button when you start the game up (no need to manually configure anything), and the “Mode” button becomes the “reset” button.
