Works great right out of the box. Unit was fully assembled, and it fired right up and never missed a beat during two amateur haircutting sessions. Not rock solid structurally like the pro clippers in barber shops, of course -- but I won't be using it every day, and don't expect it will get dropped on the living room floor, so it's plenty rugged enough for me. The vacuum hair-collection chamber is very easy to see into, through blue-shaded plastic; and that compartment is also crazy-easy to remove, empty, and replace. No fancy tabs to break off -- it's more of a goof-proof friction fit. Simple instructions. Takes about 5 minutes to read the instructions, even if you haven't had your coffee yet. Only the must-know info is there...if you want to get fancy with a particular hairstyle, there's always the internet and social media. (Good luck with that.) One thing you'll chuckle about is the statement to the effect of "make sure that hair on left and right sides are trimmed to the same length." Remington must have had some complaints about bilaterally asymmetric haircuts given with this product over the years, but frankly, if you want to give such a haircut, there’s not much that the recipient can do about it, since it’s probably a freebie haircut you’re providing anyway, as most likely required by your local laws. Everything else in the short instructions is news you can use, and probably should -- particularly if you've never used a hair trimmer/cutter before! Long power cord. If this multi-foot power cord isn't long enough for your haircutting task, beware, you have a Rapunzel situation on your hands. Get the scissors or tin snips, a good umbrella insurance policy (it had better catch more than just falling hair damage), and work your way up, before using this Remington Kit. No (or very little) mess. More than 95% of clipped hairs were vacuumed away into the unit. I didn't do an actual quantitation of the hair caught versus hair escaped. Check back in 5 or 10 years when I'll update this review for aggregated statistical data, controlled for length and thickness of hair, among other variables that I can "tease" from the hair data. I was eager to set this up as a double-blind study and get "rolling," but my subjects were not willing to let me cut their hair with blindfolds in the study design, so I "trimmed" that double-blind study idea. Apparently amateur haircut folkways in my town require the haircutter and haircutee to watch what's going on from start-to-finish during the barbering process...who knew?!

I've been cutting my own hair for about 15 years, and have tried almost every brand of clippers on the market. And lemme tell ya: This brilliant technology should set the standard for all hair clippers everywhere. SO EASY TO USE!!! SUCH GREAT QUALITY!! THE VACUUM FEATURE IS ONE OF A KIND and GENUINELY LIFE CHANGING!! Now I can literally give myself a haircut right before I go somewhere, even if I've already taken my shower. I used to "put off" and procrastinate on cutting my hair, and I'd honestly get feeling self-conscious or depressed until I "got around to it." I would put it off because I didn't wanna deal with the clean up. This changes all that. Now I cut my hair super often because it's so effortless, clean, quick and easy with these clippers!! I've owned many, many clipper sets from many brands including well-known big names like Wahl. These clippers are hands-down, above and beyond the best haircut clippers I've EVER owned. The hair cutting process is so smooth and efficient. The quality of the cut looks like I paid for a high end trim at the barber. Very, very easy to use. It just glides across your hair. So while the clippers are top notch, the vacuum component is what REALLY sets these off!!! This should set the standard for how ALL clippers are made!!! It's super brilliant. While you're cutting your hair, instead of it getting all over your clothes, all over your sink/floor or whatever room you're doing your hair in, barely ANY hair gets on anything. Just a few whispies come off but easily 95-99% of the hair is vacuumed up into the little compartment on the machine, which is super fast and easy to empty and has a good capacity. I find that I only have to empty it probably once, maybe twice max when I give myself a full haircut. Due to the built-in vacuum technology, you can cut your hair or trim your facial hair RIGHT before you go somewhere (e.g. right before you head to work) without any worry about a major clean up whatsoever. You can even cut your hair AFTER taking your shower, if you want to! With all the other clippers I've ever owned until now, I had to strip down when I'd cut my hair or wear a cape because hair would get stuck in my clothes. Then there would be a big clean up job and had to take a shower to get all the hair off my neck, face and body. Well, thanks to this BRILLIANT unit? NOT ANYMORE!!! Totally life-changing. Would buy again and again and again. This really should set the standard for ALL hair clippers across ALL brands. I can't imagine clippers without the vacuum feature, and again the clipper part itself is super high quality and gives the best haircut you'll ever get that seriously rivals a professional, expensive cut from a barber. Whether you're planning to get this to cut your own hair, to cut someone else's hair or to have someone cut your hair, you will NOT be disappointed with this absolutely one of a kind and easy to use device. One minor thing to keep in mind is that these are slightly bigger than clippers that don't have the vacuum feature, due to the compartment that holds the hair it picks up. So you have to get used to how it feels to hold these due to their slightly larger size. But you get used to it very quickly, and it's totally worth it!! I do recommend learning how to get a good blend by watching YouTube videos, no matter what clippers you use, for the best results possible. That's how I learned and people always assume I got my hair professionally cut at the barber even tho I have no formal training! You won't find anything better than this, so I suggest you stop scrolling endlessly like I did until I found these, and hit BUY NOW!!! BONUS: Excellent customer service experience from Remington when I got a model where the vacuum component quit. They immediately sent me a replacement and allowed me to keep the first set (which still worked as regular clippers just no vacuum on that one.) So I got two for the price of one and they were awesome. BIG SHOUT OUT TO MARY DENNING IN REMINGTON'S CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO DID A PHENOMENAL JOB HELPING ME OUT!!
