We bought the Regalo easy step baby gate to protect our grandchild from falling down the stairs when she came to visit. The installation is easy, except turning the nuts close to the floor on the bottom of the enclosure. Our carpet has medium plush, so it can be difficult to turn them until tight. If you have small hands like myself, if maybe easy but hard if you have arthritis. The set up for the gate is pretty easy. Just needed to tighten more on the end where the gate opens/closes so that the latching mechanism can reach and lock in place. One does have to lift their foot up as there is a 1.5” threshold. Received mine couple days ago just open the box realizing there is no hardware what so ever to assemble this gate and install it very disappointed. I do not want a refund if I could get the hardware kit mailed out to me ASAP that would be fine. ENTIRE Hardware kit INCLUDES…. Our opening is 47" and our previous gate was for a 47" opening but was NOT sturdy in the least, my 1 year old could push it over. This gate definitely fits much better and is not easily pushed over. My only complaint is you can only open it one way and there is no way to switch the opening except to flip the gate around, which won't work for our opening(it has to open on a specific side due to obstructions on the other side. Not that big of a deal, but kinda a bummer. Still better than our previous gate so I can't complain. ... show more

The title says that it fits to a range of widths, but it doesn’t truly fit to every width within that range. Maybe I didn’t read the fine print in the description and maybe ‘baby gate that is somewhat adjustable to most widths however not all widths with work’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. There are 2 adjustment pieces that come with the gate, a wide and short one, and the side pressure mount pieces can screw in or out to adjust further. However, my 38.5 inch opening to the kitchen was too big or too small for either adjustment piece. Also, the pressure pieces that screw in and out can only go out so far before they don’t safely hold the gate… common sense but I don’t know if they account for this in their size range determination I ended up putting pieces of wood on one side til they fit. Not the ideal look but I didn’t want to order another version and end up with the same problem. With my modification, it works… but I feel like I paid too much to have to make modifications. Wouldn’t buy it again. My wife loves that there are no narrow openings that baby can pinch himself with. Side note, my then 10 month old baby figured out the latch system and got in within 5 minutes of setup (with a big smile on his face). I have to use the gray slide ‘lock’ that he’s not strong enough to use (yet) to keep him out. This makes things tough when I have 2 hands full of hot plates and forgot to unlatch prior. I live in a century-old house that had some custom renovations in the 1950s, so most of my doors & portals are not a standard size. I recently adopted a small dog whose house training is not yet perfect. To contain him, I had hoped to simply close some doors, but my house is in an area where the ground shifts periodically, and the French doors to my living room don't currently close completely. I had tried creating a barricade, but the little scamp kept finding ways around it to use my living room as his toilet. Also, my kitchen has a relatively large portal with no doors, and there are times I need to keep him just in there. So I really wanted a fence-type thing that could do double duty, and quickly. This fit the bill. I looked at several on Amazon, and some stated "Measure your openings carefully"- so I did. Another reviewer of a barrier (it might have been this one) pointed out that the extensions altered dimensions somewhat - in other words, it's not a smooth adjustment from 29" to 49." Fortunately, my needs fit all configurations. Buyers are warned repeatedly that there is a noticeable gap at the top of the gate, that closes upon installation: pay attention to that - all is true. Installation is easy, although an extra person could speed it up. One bit of advice - don't cut the band holding the gate closed until the end, else it will flop around a bit until the gap is closed. One correction - the product description says it weighs 13 grams (!): it's more like kg. Finally - Read the directions, and you'll be fine. This fit perfectly between our kitchen and living room. My kiddo is 10 months old and this keeps her out of the kitchen and safe. It is sturdy, she stands up using the rails and it doesn’t move at all. Easy to install and use.
