To install these, you will need some pretty strong scissors (I used sewing shears). You need to measure the shades and trim to the size of your windowsill. (Alternatively, you could trim them after unfolding them a bit so there isn't as much bunched-up material to cut through). These shades are amazing. The light difference in the room is incredible. At first I was a little skeptical because the paper-y material doesn't seem like it would block light, but the room was pitch-black at noon when these shades were added. They are easy to pin up when you don't need them, and the adhesive is very strong (rather, it hasn't fallen down yet). The only reason you might not want to purchase these is if you had a lot of moisture or condensation around your windows (on the inside) because I am not sure how it would react with the paper-like material of the shades. So let me start off by saying I never review things, but this had to be shared. I have been struggling with the brightness in my room for weeks. I didn't want to get blackout curtains because I like how clean my room looks without them. These shades work amazing. I hung them up behind the current blinds I have installed (so you can't even see them when the blinds are closed). The light difference at 7am is insane! I will say that install is a PAIN. The sticky strip isn't great (we added thumb tacks so still renter friendly) and them being paper was just a fight the whole time. But over all they work amazing, they were cheap to buy compared to curtains, and I was able to do 3 rooms with the 6 pack I purchased. Highly recommend. ... show more

The accordion shade itself is exactly what I needed to block the light inside the window behind my blackout curtains. Unfortunately everything ELSE you need to make it stay up is not included. You'll need: - Scissors or box cutter - Tacks - Some other kind of clip It does not work BY ITSELF as blackout, I use it behind my blackout curtains which are on a rod in front of the window, so the light came in the top and bottom. So these do block most of the light that the blackout curtains don't. Together I get like 90% blackout. There's still a little that comes in between the edge of the shade and the window, even if you cut it perfectly. (You'll need to cut it unless your window happens to be this exact size, so you need scissors or a box cutter.) This IS what I needed, the blackout curtains alone were not working and my slat blinds were a joke. Thick black paper inside the window that folds up and down is basically what this is, and what I needed. Getting them to STAY UP is the issue. Nothing included in the kit actually works. The sticky strip on the edge is nowhere near strong enough to hold it onto the wall. It IS good for is sticking two sheets together, which you'll probably need to do, to get a longer shade. To stick it to the window edge, I tried the largest 3M stickies and they fell. I tried cutting off the sticky edge and putting 3M stickies directly on the paper, it fell. I finally used thumbtacks and surprisingly it works! They've been up for weeks. TLDR skip the expensive 3M stickies and go right for tacks. Finally, the enclosed clips to hold the shade up and open, are a joke. I had two break as I was trying to put them on, and they regularly slip off. It's not that the amount of accordion is too thick, I can get them clamped securely, it will simply stay for a while then slip off randomly or with the slightest movement. I happened to buy a blanket from Marshalls that had these two nifty white clips, which don't even have a hinge, and they work perfectly. You'll need some other clip, at least 2 depending on the size of your window. This is fairly inexpensive for getting several actual accordion shades, so I'm not too mad about it, but you're really only getting the accordion paper, nothing else included actually works, and you'll need more supplies to make it stay up. ... show more

Overall happy with the purchase since it is a temporary light blocking solution but my kitchen one fell in about a day and the one in my office is threatening to go after a few weeks. Adhering the shades to my aluminum windows caused the adhesive to fail extremely quickly so I moved them to the sheetrock and even that has too much heat in the Texas summer to survive long term. Would probably work extremely well with vinyl windows. ... show more

It’s easy to install. You have to cut it to size. The adhesive that comes with it is not sticky enough so I had to buy another double adhesive just like one of the reviews said.

These shades did exactly what I wanted. They block the sun and heat, keeping our house much cooler in the summer. The only problem is the adhesive strip, when it gets really warm in the window the adhesive gives and the shades fall. I have temporarily fixed this with push pins. These are perfect. I live in south Alabama and its extra hot in the summer. I got these to darken it up and cool the house off. Its definitely worth it. I love how it looks from the outside too. Easy to cut. The clips are useless and per reviews i ordered double sticky tape to use. I put 3 squares on top and also bottom to keep them closed. Im not concerned about not being to pull them up as it defeats the purpose as to why I purchased them. My kids room are darker and temp is much cooler. It works really well if you install them and measure them properly. I would measure a bit over when cutting so you can remove some but you can’t add some. They are very flimsy but they are very opaque. I added crazy glue to the top adhesive just in case it felt like falling after reading the other reviews. I also used a command/Velcro strip to keep the bottom from springing up again but so I can easily lift it up when I need. Easy to install otherwise. ... show more
