This item stands out for texture and taste. Among the many protein powders I’ve tried, this is easily one of the best in both categories. It mixes smoothly, has no chalky feel, and the fudge brownie flavor is rich without being overly artificial. One important detail for buyers: the protein blend comes from whole food sources, including beef and chicken. That’s clearly stated, but it’s different from the more common dairy- or egg-based powders. If you’re expecting something lacto-ovo vegetarian, it’s worth double-checking. In terms of quality, the product itself performs very well.

Rolled oats are #1 on the ingredients list and it definitely shows, I tried using shaker style devices to mix this stuff with water or almond milk and it would stay somewhat clumpy with the large oats chunks very visible. I found if I shook it up then stuck it in the fridge for about an hour it would turn out fine, so I would just mix it the night before I was going to use it, or use the blender. Blended it would turn out fairly smooth, but the large oats were always there, landing on your teeth when drinking and you could kind of chew the shake if you wanted- it was strange. I just got the Banana Nut Bread and oats are #1 on there as well, but they don't stand out at all. This mixes VERY thick, 4 scoops to 16oz of liquid is almost the consistency of soft serve ice cream. I ended up usually going with 3 scoops (good luck finding the scoop in this giant container, it is probably at the bottom) to about 24oz as a tolerable thickness. 3 scoops to 16oz with the Banana Nut Bread however was actually on the THIN side, makes me wonder if the Fudge Brownie is an outlier compared to all the others. Had a shake after every workout and even used it as a meal replacement on off days (even though it says not to do that on the label), I liked it and would buy it again. If it mixed smooth with smaller oat pieces and was cheaper, I would consider stocking up with a few.

I'd like to pile on to the reviews about the new formula. I never write reviews, but I'm writing in hopes Redcon rethinks their decision and brings back my favorite protein. I've used well 10 tubs purchased from Amazon and GNC over the years and championed this as the best mass gainer on the market with good ingredients. Their new formula has removed their healthiest carb option(rolled oats) and replaced it with maltodextrin. This is an extremely high glycemic index filler which will accomplish the same job in a mass gainer but with horrible side effects if used repeatedly. It will spike your blood sugar to heck and back and if used for extended periods of time will lower insulin sensitivity to the point you may be pre-diabetic. This is not an ingredient you want reading at the top of your ingredients label. It also tastes disgusting now and is genuinely unpallatable. On the topic of the actual protein content in their new blend, they've replaced the beef protein isolate with bovine collagen peptide. This is not what you want to see at the TOP of your protein blend. Immediately after that is pea protein. Overall, Redcon has massively cheaped out on their new blend in search of quick money. I'm sure their old formula wasn't cheap because it used good whole ingredients rather than this slop they're peddling now. There's still time to reverse this decision and stop your greed from ruining one of the few good brands on the market.

For the most part, I like the taste . I find it mixes better and taste better with water instead of milk. As far as what it offers, it's fully adequate for nutrients and people who need to add an extra bundle of calories to their diet. Definitely not for training but if you need to add about 400 or 500 calories to your diet, this will do it. The chocolate taste is a little chalky, but you can get past it. I feel the premixed 16 oz containers of this mix taste better and is easier to deal with, and nd roughly costs about the same. When you get a little more out of the large container, but for ease of use, the 16 oz containers are much better.
