Despite the fact that the directions that were supplied were useful, they might have been more specific. I needed to install some ethernet jacks on my wall in an area where the cables needed to be recessed to prevent damage and this box made installation easy. It's large, but when going behind a 65 inch TV there is plenty of room.The box is well made, it's thick and durable, but has plenty of clearance to easily install your wall plate and whatever type of outlet you need. I thought it would be difficult to install, but the moment I got the goods, this trouble disappeared in an instant! The instruction manual is very detailed, so that I have no worries about the operation.

This arrived in a sturdy cardboard box with screws only in a plastic bag. They included different covers to try to be adaptable. I think most of us have plenty of covers already & most outlets come with a cover, especially if it’s a ground fault. I wanted this to make a microwave outlet above the microwave in a cabinet to look more professional instead of the crazy way the last owner left it — an outlet behind & inside the current cabinet. Once I had my hole cut out to fit this I was able to reach back to take out the old outlet (& a nailed in steel box!) which was buried behind about 2 inches. That was most of the work — the prep. When everything was cleared away except the wires I’d need to route into this new box, I tried to push this into place & discovered it actually was a bit thinner than it should be — it bowed in some. Unfortunately when it bowed that made it stuck, & I couldn’t risk forcing it out to file the edge to make the box fit the best level. It still looks acceptable, but it should have been a thicker wall construction, so you could easily back out the box slightly crooked going in. Thankfully, when wired & a cover was put on it’s hardly perceptible. We made it work & it’s definitely not as ugly and crazy as before, but had the outlet box been better it could have been made perfectly level. When I ordered this was $20.95 (with a 10% off coupon of $-2.095) for a final list price of $18.855 -- while similar recessed outlet kits were offered for 50-75% less. I would not order this again as the outlet kit was too thin — adding unnecessary problems to the retrofit, & it was not a good value.

Screw holes were not holding the receptacle and it's own face. Very sad.... Good thing that I'll probably never need to unplug it, since it's behind the TV. But I don't like loose stuff.

The kit includes everything needed except for the AC plug itself. It is clearly designed as an upgrade to an existing outlet. The kit includes face plates for both a standard 110V dual outlet, with two oval shaped openings, and a rectangular dual outlet as well. You will, of course, have to cut away the sheetrock to make the outlet hole larger to accommodate the housing for the new box. I found that an oscillating tool with the general blade was the perfect way to accomplish this. I recommend getting as close to a stud as possible. The outlet housing has holes designed to take the long wood screws that come in the kit, and direct them at an angle into the adjacent stud. Unfortunately, I started cutting my hole on the opposite side from the stud which resulted in the hole being slightly too wide. Luckily, we were installing some self adhesive backsplash panels to the same wall, so I was able to cover up my boo-boo. If you don’t have (and even if you do) a convenient stud to screw the box to then you can use the small plastic clamps built into the corners of the box to cinch it up against the drywall. I opted for using both because I prefer a nice flush fit on the wall. I like to use lever style wingnuts for my home electrical work. These tend to take up a lot of space and made it difficult to fit everything into the gang box. If I had to do it again, I would probably use traditional wing nuts to save space. In the end, I got everything far enough back to fully install the outlet. Once that is all done, then the outer frame/bezel can be installed on the gang box/housing. Two screws hold that in place. A standard outlet cover fits into the housing to block off the wiring. This outlet is perfect for our kitchen counter as we are able to use the appliances closer to the wall without interference from the plug sticking out. We will likely be upgrading the other similar outlets that we have at countertop level in both the kitchen and bathroom in the future to recessed versions.
