Silver Honey by Absorbine is well known by pet and horse owners, as an excellent product for healing various skin issues. This version for scratches contains an added ingredient for dealing with the scabs and getting the MicroSilver BG and Manuka Honey to the base of the problem. I ordered this as we were having a wet, muddy spring and although my horses have a dry shed and a sandy area to stand in, they had to move through mud to get to the dry spots. In 60+ years of owning horses, I've only had one case of scratches; but with the mud this spring, I wanted something on hand to immediately deal with the condition should it start to develop versus having to order and wait for a product to arrive. Thankfully, I did not have to use this as we have made it through the really muddy season with no issues. This bottle will be going in my first aid kit so I am prepared for any future problems. With the previous case, I packed the pastern with sauerkraut (vet approved) for three days. This involved wrapping the area to keep the sauerkraut next to the skin. It worked, but this spray will be so much easier and quicker to use. I am thinking if a horse develops rain rot, this product would work well to deal with the scabs and heal the skin. I did research the ingredients so I know what I am putting on my horses. MicroSilver BG adheres well to skin and kills transient bacteria/fungus/molds. It is broad spectrum, no issues with resistance, and is safe and natural. It stays on till washed off. Manuka Honey has antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Those two ingredients along with the natural oils to sooth the skin, make for a safe, simple way to deal with a difficult condition. ... show more

I always trust Absorbine to make good and safe products for my horses. It's been so wet here the last several years, and our warmblood is so prone to scratches that he usually just always has at least a mild case even when none of our other horses do. We've tried every trick in the book and he ALWAYS has them. This spray is so much easier to use than the ointments (which are so tough to get down to the skin). This stuff is the best! Silver Honey by Absorbine is a quality product. The one is specifically designed for pastern dermatitis (affectionately called Scratches) which is something I have to deal with usually a couple of times a year due to the lovely climate I live in. A good portion of the year it is hot and humid. Then combine that with having a creek run across your property and horses that can go anywhere they like anytime they want, you are bound to get some dermatitis issues here and there. This is a thinner solution than I was expecting, but that didn't actually disappoint me. Silver products have been the only thing that reliably manage my gelding’s tricky cuts over the years. I don’t care much about the honey aspect, but the silver really does do its job. The spray makes this easy to apply, and easy to coat the area. The only thing I don’t love about this product is that it’s very thin and not viscous, so in order to lock in the active ingredient you have to either apply consistently, twice a day every day, or cover it with an emollient cream. This silver honey is one of the most important items in my horse care kit. Silver is excellent for healing wounds. Being a horse owner of many years, I can say how vital it is to be prepared for wounds, so I am glad that this popped up for me to try out. It is very easy to use. So if you have a horse that doesn't liked to be touched on certain areas or is feisty, the spray nozzle on this wound care kit is perfect. You can cover their wounds from a little bit aways. I also love the natural antibacterial properties in this product. I hate using chemicals on my horses, so for me, natural is better. For you horse owners out there, this product is necessary. I believe this actually made the scratches worse. My horse is lame now so so going back to what I’ve used in the past. Wash with Dial soap, dry area, spray with athletes foot medicine and wrap for two days. Repeat as necessary until healed.
