I’ve been using Rainpoint products for a few years and they work well and are an extremely good value. I currently have two of their wifi watering systems, which keep my plants alive and happy when I’m out of town. But I have outdoor plants, too, and was looking for a system that’s weatherproof and doesn’t require electricity and so I was excited to see them offering this new solar-powered watering system. I’m very happy with it. It was well packed and came in a sturdy box, the instructions are clear, and setup is easy, and they give you a generous amount of tubing and connectors. I figured the pump would work well because their other pumps have worked great for me but I was curious as to how effective the solar panel would be…. turns out it’s more than up to the task. I live in an area with strong sun and the solar panel has no problem keeping the battery fully charged while running the pump daily. The battery was at 3/4 after running a watering cycle, and within 10 minutes it was back to a full charge! The pump itself is strong and would have no problem watering over a dozen plants. And the system looks good, too. I decided to mount the panel and pump to my tomato stand and it looks discrete and high quality. I also like that they have a water level sensor that will prevent the system from turning on if you’ve run out of water (thus protecting the pump). You just put the sensor into your water source and make sure it’s higher than the intake tube. The programming is straightforward and gives you options for seeing when the pump goes off, for how long, and how often. In short, this is an awesome pump and I doubt you can find anything that offers close to this much functionality for the price. Very glad to have something that allows me to keep my outdoor plants watered without needing electricity! Of course, you can use it indoors if you want, too, as long as you can put the solar panel by a window so it gets adequate sunlight.

I’m a prior RainPoint customer, having purchased their wifi automatic indoor watering system in the past. I received this 5W Automatic Solar Watering System as part of a testing group, and I am glad to say that this system was designed intuitively. I have to leave my plants for 2 weeks to 2 months at a time, so I’ve done a lot of research on which company and products to use. I’ve found that RainPoint does not fail, has all the customizable settings I need, and this solar-powered irrigation system indeed can run on its own and perform as programmed. Pros: - Crystal clear instructions!! This is a big one. They’ve done a great job with the user guide and I had no difficulty whatsoever in setting it up by following the provided instructions and basic diagrams. - The console itself is very clear as well. The dial has text of ample size and phrases like “How Long” to guide you in changing the settings as needed. - The solar panel is very adjustable with the provided metal stake and tiltable frame, all of which is made from a strong metal, not cheap aluminum. - The low water level sensor is a great addition (my older wifi model doesn’t have a sensor). It looks like the type of jack you would use to plug in headphones/earbuds, and sits in the water at the bottom. You don’t need to constantly check the water level (or have a camera on it like I used to) in order to know the system has enough water. - The charging indicator light on the console also shows you if you are receiving direct sunlight to the solar panel, as it dims or brightens depending on the level of light received. - The removable rechargeable battery is great, and I like that I do have the option to charge from a wall outlet as an alternative. - The battery’s charge level is displayed at all times on the console screen, so I always know if the unit is getting enough sunlight. - There were no missing connectors or pieces in the box, and plenty of tubing is provided. - I experienced no leaks or malfunctions. - Customer service is great! They are very responsive via email and it is easy to register the product for the extended five-year warranty. Cons: - Essentially none, except for some minor typos in the user guide that don’t impact its clarity when it comes to the instructions. (Example: the first page thanks you for buying a wifi system, but this isn’t their wifi model.) I recommend this irrigation system for anyone looking to automatically water outdoor plants. All you need is a water reservoir/tub/bucket and you’re good to go.

This is my second Rainpoint automatic watering system, so I'll make some comparisons, primarily the improvements. My previous unit was a WIFI system that could be controlled via an app, which proved to be cumbersome to use yet still works fine. This simpler to use unit is a real improvement over the old one. This model IS NOT A WIFI unit although the instructions congratulates you on buying A "RAINPOINT WIFI automatic watering system!" With that and some typos on the instructions out of the way, let's concentrate on features and improvements. The unit is solidly built, has a large display and buttons. Solar Panel is about the size of your hand and the connection cable has a decent length. Setup is a breeze, just turn the dial clock-wise starting from OFF o set the clock, when to start watering, how long, how often and leave it on ON. Simple!. Battery arrived half charged and fully charged the same day, I expect it to last a lot, older unit didn't need battery change quite often but that's one thing less to worry about. Three improvements over the old unit: 1. Bigger water filter, see photos comparing old and new. 2. Backflow valve, won't let water lines get dry, meaning 1 minute of watering is effectively 1 minute, not 50 seconds because water needs to be pumped to fill empty lines first. 3. Water level detector will visually alert of no water. When activated, a countdown will tell you how much time is left in the cycle. Some improvements I would like to see: 1. Power, Detector and line ports are described in the instructions however labeling them on the unit can help identify them easily while doing maintenance. Overall is a good system and I'm really enjoying it.
