I bought the R36MAX retro game console for my son for his birthday and he was super delighted from the first moment. The console comes with more than 18,000 classic games, so you never get bored: you always find something new to play. The 4.0-inch IPS screen with 720 x 720 resolution looks super sharp, with vivid colors and a quality that surprises for a retro console. The 4000 mAh battery lasts a long time, which is perfect for trips, outings or even to keep it entertained while we are away from home. In addition, it comes with its portable case, which makes it safer and easier to carry anywhere without worrying about scratching or hitting. I also love that you can choose between 64 GB or 128 GB, because it brings a lot of content and continues to work quickly and smoothly. I didn't have super high expectations for this unit since there are about 30 companies advertising almost the identical unit loaded with similar ROMs. I chose the R36MAX for it's larger 4" screen compared to the other competitor's 3.5 inch screen. The hardware looks nice, but is VERY cheap and plastic when in hand. My unit actually rattles if you shake it slightly. I don't know if that's loose buttons or something came free inside. The system booted up just fine, but is complicated to operate. There is a built in user manual, which is nice, but a LOT of button combos to memorize in order to do anything. Used regularly this may be OK, but this isn't something to play for a bit, put away for a while and immediately are productive when you pick it up again. Just getting the games to start was a challenge as it's not obvious what buttons to push. The big problem I had was playability. I tried 10 random games to see how the system worked. 3 would load then crash once started. 2 wouldn't load at all. 2 loaded but were sideways on the screen (couldn't figure out how to undo that), and 3 worked just fine. A 30% success rate isn't going to work for me. If you google the system, there are instructions on how to wipe it, install a more stable OS, and suggestions to redownload all the games. No thanks. I don't want to put that much time into it. The unit isn't worth the headache.

So far this thing has worked flawlessly, it is packed with some of my favorite games of all time. I was happily surprised with the quality of the included protective pouch that it came with. The large screen looks beautiful, the buttons had a good clicky feel and work perfectly. The home screen and navigation is very easy to use to find what games I am looking for. I have not taken it on any trips yet, but I'm looking forward to playing for hours on this thing.

I picked up the R36MAX mainly for nostalgia, and it didn’t disappoint. The 4 inch screen is surprisingly sharp and bright, and the classic games look clean and colorful. The size is comfortable to hold, even during longer gaming sessions. Having so many classic games preloaded is a big plus. There’s a lot of variety, and it brought back memories of games I hadn’t played in years. Moreover, Battery life has been solid so far and easily lasts through several hours of play. It’s lightweight, portable, and great for travel or quick gaming breaks. Overall, great retro handheld for the price and a fun way to revisit classic games anytime.

This console is worth every penny. Games are tremendously playable, great screen brightness and visuals, good sound. Tons of games, especially for Gameboy Advance that I can recall. A good number of the onboard game platform emulators provide over 1000 games, others between 100 to 300 games, a few less than a hundred. But there is a feature that allows you to download ROM files in a particular readable format. Online resources like the Internet Archive might be able to provide ROMS-- I looked up gaming ROMS on it and it listed some. The one drawback on my console is a soccer ball button at center of the console front. That button is a little wobbly like it might come loose, but it works fine to open a brightness control. I'm generally just leaving it alone. I did take the two year Amazon warranty for seven dollars, just because this is a generic console and I didn't know what I'd be getting. But it turned out mine was just great value for money. It has several Castlevania games, Zelda one and two, doom, Phantasy Star Collection, Mortal Combat games, old Pacman, Centipede, Asteroids, Xevious, and tons more big name games. Don't miss this one--just take the Amazon warranty and you'll be fine.
