  • Expensive but Totally Worth Every Penny
Size: 5,576 CFM Style: ES-6000
This is the BEST purchase I’ve made for our house in a long time. It was expensive, and I had it sitting in my cart for a while before hitting checkout. But I’m glad I did. If you live in a place where it gets cooler at night, you need one of these. With energy getting more and more expensive, I expect to recover my investment in a short time. Keeping the air conditioner off after sundown, opening the windows, and spinning up this puppy up is very satisfying. We had an old belt driven whole house fan that was built into our house from the beginning. It was SUPER noisy, didn’t work that well, and would have to be sealed every winter to prevent warm air from the house escaping into the attic. So I was leery of purchasing a new one and being disappointed with the results. It’s been nothing but amazing since I installed it. The house cools to the outside temperature so quickly, I find myself turning it off because it gets too cold. Granted, we live in Colorado, where there’s usually a big swing between day and night temperatures, but it would be a benefit in most places. Install was straightforward, but not a job for someone that picked up a hammer for the first time yesterday. I’m a fairly experienced DIYer, and the install took about 4 hours, and that included patching up the other half of the 34”x34” hole left by the old fan. The hardest part was the wiring. I used an in-wall timer and two-way switch to set the high and low settings. Now, they have a much easier wiring system and the ability to do app control of the fan, which would make that part much easier. What sold me on this product was the insulated damper system that keeps air from passing through the system when it’s off and the barely detectable noise it makes via the highly insulated ducting and rafter mounting of the fan itself. The only thing I hear when it’s on is a low hum. And, I think if I mounted the fan a little higher, closer to the roof versus on two support beams, the sound would all but disappear. The sound of the rattling louvers and squeaky belt drive of the old fan are gone. ... show more

  • Game changer if you like fresh air
Size: 5,576 CFM Style: ES-6000
We installed this fan a couple years ago and we've been really happy with the results. There's nothing like opening your windows on those first few warm spring days and getting a breeze of fresh air. We bought it with the remote and two controllers so we could turn it on upstairs and downstairs. Everything worked as advertised and I've never had issues with the remotes not working. The only negative thing about this fan was that the installation was more difficult than I expected. The fan comes with the flexible exhaust tubing attached (great!). Unfortunately, since the fan was too big to fit through my attic hatch easily, I had to cut the fan hole in the ceiling first, and then pass the fan through the hole. I had to disconnect the tubing from the fan in order to get it through the ceiling hole. It was super easy to disconnect with a couple latches that you unhook. The difficult part was getting the exhaust tube back onto the fan. Since the exhaust tube had to be squished a bit to get through the attic hole, it was a bit oval shaped and fitting the oval back into a round shape and over the manifold and putting the clamp ring back in place took me and my son well over an hour of struggling in the heat of the attic. Some bad words may have been heard. After we reattached the exhaust pipe, the rest of the installation was easy. The fan is quiet on low and medium speed and has a low pitched hum at high speed. It creates a serious breeze when it's on high. I'm not sure about the review that mentions fans creating mold. I've never heard this and a fan creating mold would surprise me since the way to avoid mold in an attic to to make sure it is well ventilated and to not have things like bathroom fans exhausting moist air directly into the attic. It seems that this fan would help with ventilation of the attic. I guess it's possible that cool air from inside hitting the hot interior of the roof could create condensation but it seems like this would happen naturally with any roof because soffit vents basically do the same thing by pulling air along the inside of the roof up to the ridge vent and out. ... show more

  • Expensive but the total package is impressive
Size: 4,195 CFM Style: QC ES-4700 RF
The grill and duct is worlds better than belt driven fan setups from the big box stores. I installed it myself and had to do some framing around the new grill, so it took a full day to install it. The fan is super quiet and the grill/ducting doesn't shake and rattle like cheaper units. The remote setup is great and the wireless wall switch looks high tech and works perfectly. It seems a bit expensive when looking at the individual components separately, but all together it functions like a Ferrari. We will be using this extensively in the northern CA heat, so it should end up being a great investment. Buy it once and feel the pain once. You'll be glad you did. ... show more
