Description

New York Times bestselling author Janet Dailey’s latest Champions novel tells the rugged, romantic story of an Arizona family ranch in trouble, and two stubborn rivals turned partners—in business and love. Tess Champion knows better than to trust Brock Tolman, the rancher who once swindled her late father in a land deal. But with the Alamo Canyon Ranch in foreclosure, Tess is forced to accept Brock’s offer of a partnership. Brock claims he only wants to breed the Champion bloodline into his herd. In exchange, he offers Tess one of his own young bulls. Soon enough, Quicksand is the rising star of the rodeo circuit, which only proves Tess is better at picking bulls than she is men. Because she’s way too tempted to surrender to her attraction to Brock, despite her fear that he’s involved in the accidents besetting both ranches . . . It’s not until a murder, an explosion and a plane crash in the wilderness strand them together that the truth of their relationship will come out. The Champion family’s future is on the line, but it’s Tess who will take the hit if she’s fallen for the wrong man . . . Read more

  • Quicksand…..
This is an exciting book set on a ranch that raises bulls for rodeos. The main character is Tess who is an expert at choosing bulls for the ring. She has a partner who lives on the adjoining ranch. Several incidents happen but they don’t know why or by whom.

  • This enemies to lovers romance explodes from boring to suspenseful at 47% in. Four surprised stars!
I loved Whirlwind, disliked Whiplash, and have mixed feelings about Quicksand. I was downright bored through the first half, which focuses mainly on training bulls for professional bull riding competitions. I almost gave up at 47% in, but a sudden violent explosion grabbed my attention and convinced me to hang on for the ride. I'm glad I did! The second half is packed with danger, suspense, surprising twists, and a stunning big reveal I never expected! Here's a bit of the plot, with no big spoilers. Our heroine (Tess Champion) despises Brock Tolman, a wealthy, arrogant rancher who forced her to form a partnership with him in order to save her Alamo Canyon Ranch from foreclosure. But Brock wants more than her ranch. He wants her. Tess trades Whiplash for one of Brock's young bulls (Quicksand) and trains him for the rodeo circuit, where she spends time with Brock and his bulls. Despite Brock's arrogance, the handsome rancher can be charming and helpful. Could she possibly be feeling something other than hatred for him? Tess isn't the only person who despises Brock Tolman. He was involved in a fatal car accident years ago, and now he's receiving anonymous threats from someone who holds him responsible for the young woman's death. The threats soon turn deadly. One of his prize bulls is poisoned. A bomb explodes on his ranch. His private plane crashes, with Tess on board. These mysterious attacks draw Tess and Brock closer together, making her realize that she actually cares about him. This shift from animosity to love is unrealistically abrupt, followed by an equally abrupt sex scene that generates no steam whatsoever. But the plot definitely heats up at this point, taking our lovers through a terrifying series of attacks meant to kill them. Who's behind this nefarious scheme? (The mastermind's identity came as a complete shock to me.) There's a secondary plot involving Tess's sister (Val), as she and her boyfriend (Casey) search for their long-lost son, a child Val gave up for adoption at his birth nine years ago. Their search detracts from the main plot, but it does give closure to Val and Casey's story in Whiplash. You'll find no explicit sex scenes, no f-bombs, limited profanity, and a delightful Happily Ever After ending. The suspenseful second half makes up for the boring first half, raising my rating to four surprised stars overall. ... show more

  • Champions
This was a good follow-up to the 2 previous books. I wasn’t surprised that Tess and Brock became a couple. I love happy endings.

  • Great
I really enjoyed reading this story. All the characters were great. Each one brought something to the book. I loved how all of them intertwined. Lexie and her sisters and their boyfriend or husband. Her ranch was everything to her. Brock was a rancher too. Bulls, cows, bull riding etc. Then his past comes back to haunt him. This book has a Lot of twists, ups and downs, Love❤, hurt, suspense and so much more. Read it ... show more

  • What a Ride!
Enjoyed this read even more than books 1 & 2. The intrigue provided the page-turning. Heart stopping events peppered through out brought tears as I kept reading. I was glad Tess got her story told. Loved her strong character. My reasons for assigning this story a "4" ... Val's constant inner self talk and playing her man like a yo-yo. AND not enough self talk from Brock who is portrayed as this self made, strong man, not needing anything or anyone who all the sudden "loves" with very little self talk. ... show more

  • The best of the three in the series
It helps to read the three books in order. They pull you along and leave you wanting more. I learned a lot about the bull industry. This book wraps up all three stories very neatly.
