These are beautiful-the leather is quality. I got the white,very classy look. I wear 8.5 or 9 in Nike running shoes so I got a 9.5 in this tap shoe based on reviews. These are the right size. They fit more like the 8.5 Nikes in length. Any smaller would not work. They have the width and feel of a quality skate boot as in they hug your foot more like a skate boot then a running shoe. And they have the hard structural sole like a skate. Because of my experience with quality leather boots I know they will break in to a less snug & perfect fitting shoe. If you like a little more space from your big toe to the front then you may want to go one full size from your biggest size of running shoes. If you like a little gap in the toe, for me I would have chosen the 10. But I don’t mind a fit were I don’t have extra toe room, like my 8.5 Nikes have no extra toe room but do not cause any pain or issues. ... show more

I upgraded from Sansha T-Bojango to JSams. The sound quality is amazing! These shoes are way louder, clearer, and lower pitched than other shoes. They are also heavier and it takes a while to adjust to the weight. (It’s been a couple of months in my case, but I guess it might take less if you are younger, stronger or more experienced…) I’m 53 and I’m a beginner/intermediate dancer. As regards size, I normally wear 8 or 8.5 in street shoes (my feet are 24.6 cm long) and I bought a 9.5. I also tried 9 on, but they were too tight to wear with any socks. Still, I wear these with thin socks or with no socks, depending on how my feet feel. My feet are a bit wide but not so much. If I had kept the 9, my toes would have felt squeezed while or after dancing. As regards breaking them in, it also takes a while, but after a few weeks/classes they are fine. The heel is a bit higher than the ones in my previous shoes, but it was easy to adapt. The soles are thicker and stiffer, but it’s also something that changes with use. The leather gets softer and they become more comfortable with use. I haven’t had the rubber pads set because I love the sound, and they are not slippery. At the beginning, I could feel the plates under the ball of my feet and I considered sticking them, but after I got used to them, it doesn’t bother me at all. These tap shoes are the best! They are very heavy duty and great quality. The sounds on these are beautiful! Very sharp and loud sounds. They do run a bit small. I normally wear a 7.5 to 8 in street shoes and I had to get a few sizes before finding a good fit. I ended up with a size 8.5 in this tap shoes and it fits snug (which I wanted). I can still wear a pair of thin socks with them. The toe area was a bit tight when I first got them but have stretched a little since then and are now comfortable. They come with the rubber soles unattached. I chose not to put them onto my shoes (because I didn’t know how and I didn’t want to pay more money to find someone to do it professionally). There is definitely more sliding without them but I’ve gotten used to it. I do feel like the balls of my feet get a bit more sore after dancing for a while probably because of this. Overall, I love these shoes! I’ve had them for about two years now and I still love them. I’m considering getting them in white too! If you get these shoes, you won’t regret it! ... show more

Wonderful sounding taps with high quality leather! They do run small. I ordered a half size up from my street shoe size and might have benefitted from going a full size, but i like to tap in bare feet or tights so I'm banking on the fact they'll break in and stretch a bit. If you are someone who likes to wear thicker socks, you should consider going a full size up. ... show more

This is the second pair of JSams I have bought because they run so small. I used Bloch's recommendation to go half a size higher and despite my best efforts to break them in they were way too tight. I ordered a full size higher than my street shoe size and it is still a little tight but a lot better than the previous pair. They take a bit to break in but they are solid and the sounds they make are beautiful. I'm glad I got them but I wish I had gotten the correct size the first time. ... show more

I was apprehensive about buying my first pair of J Sams because there are break-in horror stories online and I have some toe and foot pain issues. After they arrived, I wore them around the house for a couple of weeks; after every wear, I would stuff the toes with several thick socks. The first couple of classes were a little rough, but I kept stuffing them with socks, concentrating on the most painful toe area. Once the shoes started to loosen a little, I began bending and twisting them after each class while the leather was still damp. I'm about six weeks in at this point and they're starting to get really comfortable. The best part so far about this pair of tap shoes vs the much cheaper Capezios I was wearing is how much louder and clearer the sounds are--it makes a huge difference! The leather and stitching seem to be really good quality and the shoes feel solid and well-made. Very happy with this investment so far and would definitely recommend them to other tappers, as long as you're willing to work through breaking them in. ... show more

Dancer offspring loves these! Had to return the first pair for being too tight. Second pair was the charm. Offspring claims the taps have a higher quality sound, and she loves the way these shoes look and feel. She claims to have a little slippage in the heel sometimes, but I think if she chose to break in the tighter pair, she wouldn't have that issue.
