  • Sleek, fairly light... no issues for me
Battery Pack, Picatinny Rail Mount/ ASIN: B0G77L6ZPH / $80 Look. It's a battery pack, some might consider deadweight. But you knew this already, yet it's an option to keep your NVS or thermal sight blooming much longer without tending. The whole ensemble weighs in at 10oz, potentially significant if you're shooting standing, less if seated, no issue when prone and if you're using a rest for the first two positions. For some added deadweight, it's a nice compact kit with minimal interference. Indicated to absorb recoil up to .308 Winchester / 7.62x51 NATO -- but at what load? I guess I'll have to squeeze off some 180 grain and find out. Threaded keeper for the input so no accidental disconnects, right angle connection for end use keeps the cable close in. The weather boot for the charging input is deeper for a secure fit when not in use in the elements. Output boot is less so, but not needed because the pack is either plugged in or in storage. Well-constructed, fumble free parts and controls, easy to mount and with quick detach. ABS plastic is strong & corrosion resistant and reduces weight. IB66 waterproof rating. The power button is small and flush mounted on the side. A momentary push turns on the pack. Holding it down for 3 to 5 seconds should turn it off. On a side note, a later model iPhone did not register the charge when connected. I only point this out because the listing references charging a phone in an emergency. Not an issue for me... might work with other phones or perhaps the batteries need a full charge? Takes two widely available and relatively inexpensive Type 18650 lithium cells. If you desire spares, the manual clearly delineates what variation of these you need as there are design differences. I see some reviews critical of the LED power indicator. They're there... they're faint, but they are there. Why would you want to be looking down your bore with a bright blue hue glowing up into the dark sky? The cells are delivered with minimal charge. Four indicators of battery level. For lithium long term storage, it's ideal to charge to 40-75% depending on who you ask. I disconnected when the 3rd light started blinking indicating 50%+. The company SIXTH SIGHT appears to be new to the market with this offering but the craftsmanship is commensurate with another accessory they produce. Again, it's a battery pack to hang onto your long gun -- but if you compare it to the other offerings currently out there, I think you'll agree some extra thought went into this design. ... show more

  • flawed but useful
The TLDR - solid, chunky, best for use in a static position. I think there is some potential here depending on how you want to use this; but we'll start with just the unit before use-case. The QD Battery Pack is lighter than expected, not much more actual weight than the 18650 batteries used in the unit. While the unit is well-built, I am nervous about the waterproof claim as there is no kind of gasket around the battery cover - I am sure this will be fine if it is raining, but I'm not ready for dunk testing at this point. The QD latch is good and bad all at the same time. The adjustment dial has a detent to prevent the latch from loosening up, I really like this feature, but the latch does take some fine tuning as it is either too loose for retention until you find a narrow sweet spot or go too far and tighten it too much for the QD latch to click into place. There is almost no margin for error either way - but once you get this in place, it stays on the rail with no rattle. There are lights to show the charge level on the batteries - and this is another thing that is good and bad. The four small blue lights are very hard to see so while you definitely won't have to worry about being spotted from the level indicator lights, you may find yourself staring at them a bit too long trying to figure out how much battery you have left. The USB-C ports are convenient and I like that the output cable has a set screw to keep it in place, but this is a necessary feature rather than just a back-up feature as the ports do not like holding on to an inserted cable. When charging, I had to be very delicate to make sure the cable didn't just fall out of the unit - this is not something I should have to worry about. Overall size is something to consider. The unit is not huge, but it isn't exactly small as you can see in the pictures. If I wanted to use this on a platform with a low mounted LPVO, it covers almost half of the view in the optic. (I think I would most likely mount this on the side for actual use.) I also tend to think this will be best employed if you're in a blind using a tripod - but that's just my opinion. I like what they are doing with this, but some refinements would be a great benefit. ... show more
