I dried fit one and it was put in place and seemed to be sealed as advertised. I bought this and brought to Cavite, Phillippines which is prone to flooding. Easy to install...no brainer. After I intalled I pounded on it to test how secure it is, it didn't budge. True test is when it floods but it hasn't...yet.

Six months after we bought our house Hurricane Ian put 12 inches of flood water in our house. After that we had a wall built around our house with 3 openings. 2 at 48 inches and 1 at 36 inches. Specs bases on these gates. Last Thursday after Hurricane Milton, at high tide, my wife and I sat on our back patio as over 16 inches of flood water surrounded our home. A home FEMA has labeled as a severe repetitive loss property. Not a drop of water entered our home. One big gate came with the bottom loose, but it was still functional. Thank you so much. We installed two of these in preparation for the Hurricane Milton: one for our front door, the other for the back door. We tested it by shooting water jet through on all 3 sides to make sure no water was coming through the sides. We placed about 30 jumbo quick dams outside of our sliding door as well. They didn’t work. As the water started backing up from the storm drain due to excessive rain, the water seeped through the bottom. Our whole house was flooded with 10 inches of water. ... show more

This product seems very well built, and I had high hopes for it. I was planning to use it at our house, which is in a flood zone. However, I decided to first try it out at our condo, which is fairly newly built, and has completely straight steel door frames. To my surprise, it had a sizable gap in the lower-right corner (see photo). I contacted the manufacturer, and provided photos that show the gap, etc. They asked me to measure the door width at the bottom and 26" up, which I did and I provided them with this information. They said that they had sent the issue to the engineering department. This was over 3 weeks ago, and I have not heard a word back. Another, more minor issue, is that the outer bolts on the bottom are covered by the sleeve (see photo). This makes it difficult to properly tighten these bolts "by one full turn" using the included wrench. I suspect that the issue that I had with this unit is not the usual situation, and that most of them work well, but the fact that the company showed so little interest in handling the issue was quite disappointing. This was a house saver. We had six or seven strong storm cells in one night with over 8 inches of rain in 5 hours. When we thought the storm was over another one would pop up and drop a lot of rain. We had this water dam gate in our door and it kept the floods of rain waters out. I am very pleased with this product. It was easy to put in, just take the ratchet wrench tool that comes with it and tighten it between your door post, then to take it out use the same tool and loosen it to release it from the door post and put it away. These dam gates are very heavy duty. I can install them at my ground level doors in less than 15 minutes. We have not experienced flood conditions since I made this purchase, but installed there is no doubt they will be water tight. There is a material/cover that you slip on over the metal dam. It appears to me to be similar to a scuba divers wet suit, totally water proof. This purchase will be well worth the investment if we have a flooding situation again. ... show more
