  • GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY even at over 500 dollars
Qnap designed a nice compact switch which stays relatively quiet as the fans can’t be heard much at all from 3 feet away. It allows you both rj45 and fiber and that is cool. PCs without thunderbolt and itx where I can’t put in sfp+ pcie cards I am using TRENDnet USB-C 3.1 to 5GBASE-T Ethernet Adapter, TUC-ET5G, 2.5GBASE-T RJ-45, Integrated 12.6cm (4.9 in.) USB Type C Cable, Compatible with Cat5e or Better Cabling, USB Powered, Windows 10, 8.1, 7 Sold by: Amazon.com Services LLC And getting 5gigbit on 3.1 usb It is pretty much plug and play ISSUE TO ADDRESS WITH PORTS - it here is no issue if you know this I think you can’t plug sfp+ and rj45 into same number ports. Meaning you can’t fill them all. Haven’t tested this but I think they assume we are supposed to know this and I sAw the info in a review video. And Linus mentioned something about this from competitor switch also so it’s a thing. Have two of those snd everything works out of box from me and happy with it. Also ordered the qnap nas that has 10gbe connection sfp+ port for high speed nas https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GVPHGSX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 LASTLY THIS IS MADE IN TAIWAN and I am happy to support those people. There is nothing like this on the market. ... show more

  • Quiet, reliable, fast -- good balance for home setup
I'm using this switch in my home setup and it works great. It doesn't put out too much heat and its fans are not noisy, which was a big consideration for me as placement for me is limited and I can't tolerate huge amounts of noise. Most 10 gig switches are extremely loud but this one is whisper-quiet most of the time. Under use, the fans ramp up a bit but this is fine. Transfer rates are good. I'm probably limited by the drives on either end, but I see 900MB/s sustained which is good enough for me. This switch is great if you want something viable for a small home network, though it would work just fine in a business environment as well. It does come with rack mount flanges (though no screws) so if using in a standard rack-mount setup it doesn't require purchasing anything else. ... show more

  • Added it to a working 10G network and the network started failing.
I had two working 10G switches (Netgear GS110MX) connecting two PC's that have QNAP 10G pci cards. All connections are using cat6 cables, no SFP's at all. There is also 1G traffic for other nodes being carried via the cat6 cable between the two 10G switches. When I replaced one of those Netgear switches with this QNAP QSW-1208-8C-US, the network started failing. It seems to go through periods of many seconds when it won't pass packets between the two PC's. My ssh connections from PC to PC thru the switch hang for seconds, and then time out: "packet_write_wait: Connection to [ip addr] port 22: Broken pipe". But a few seconds later, a new ssh connection works again for a while. This problem remained when I moved all cables onto a separate 1G switch and only retained two cables connected to the QNAP switch (one 10G to one of the PCs, and one 1G from the QNAP switch to the separate switch). The problems resolve when I remove the switch from the network. This is not a subtle effect, I noticed it on the first day. Was I stupid to buy this switch, with two or three other reports here at Amazon of it hanging and needing reboot, or the RJ45 ports not working sometimes? Make your own decision. This is definitely not "plug-and-play" like other Ethernet switches, it's "plug and debug". ... show more

  • Great switch with no fuss features!
Awesome switch, speeds are fantastic and the combo ports are great. I just used this to upgrade my entire home network with various other switches to 10GBit. I was worried about it not getting me full 10GBit speeds since my house is wired Cat 5e 350MHZ cable but I plugged it in, it showed 10GBit link right off the bat and it achieves full 10GBit speeds over a 55 foot Cat 5e run. Don't let people talk you into needing Cat 6a or 7 for those speeds, if your runs from main box to your rooms are fairly short and you have a quality Cat 5e cable you should be good to go. ... show more

  • Relatively inexpensive SFP+ and 10gbase-t
Very good price, but I have been experiencing issues that require me to power-cycle the switch about once every 2 weeks. For some reason some of the RJ45 ports stop functioning. There is a link light on the switch side, but the PC either reports no connection or a limited connection. After a switch power-cycle everything functions correctly. This mostly seems to impact my 1000Gbase-T realtek (on motherboard) adapters on 2 different PCs (win7 and win10). I have been very happy with the 10 gigabit performance! Most of my 10gbe NICs are SFP+ Mellanox and 10gase-t Aquantia chipsets. Update on Dec 17, 2019 After going through an RMA the replacement switch has not experienced any of the dropping connections issues as before. ... show more

  • Really great.
Not sure if there is even anything available on the market even within many times its price that has dual rj45 and sfp ports. Very grateful for Qnap to even produce this as it has made our entire office running on 10gb for our NAS. Excellent product.

  • Works perfectly
Easy to implement and inexpensive switch with both SFP and RJ45 connectors. Super fast connection to my server. Love it!

  • None of my SFP+ ports worked, even when tested separately...
The newer QSW-M408-2C only has (4) 10g combo ports so I thought I would give the (12) port QSW-1208-8C-US a try even though it was an older design & cost more... I tested the ports one at a time, only choosing the SFP+ side & not the RJ45 side... SFP+ ports (1-4) did not function at all, not a single light.... Only ONE port (#9) was reliable enough to transfer a couple small files across the network, but it was intermittent and eventually any larger transfer failed. QNAP chat said they were not available when I tried to contact them, so I boxed it up & sent it back to Amazon... I searched diligently & could not find a single firmware update, etc. even though it has an RS232 port... I learned long ago that if an electronic device has issues day one keeping it will only be a waste of your labor time... Ordered the QSW-M408-2C & will report on that one once I have a chance to test it on my network... ... show more
