  • Works well as advertised
Style: Amplifier System 300W with USB, SD Input
I recently purchased the PT 270 AIU to have an outdoor stereo around our pool. I was interested to have many formats to play music from so this receiver was attractive. I generally play music from an ipod, MP3,or USB, but my wife was adamant that it have FM as she likes to listen to NPR or talk radio while reading her Kindle. After checking pawn shops for older low budget receivers, I thought this unit would have all of the options we wanted built in, for an awesome price, and it does. First off, many of the comments on here are spot on, and should be noted. Such as; mysteriously an on/off switch has been left off the remote, the input does revert to DVD each time you turn it on, as well as the volume is turned low (a benefit). The dancing lights although pleasant, give the impression it is an equalizer, which it isn't. Our fan is quiet, and I hope it stays that way, but I keep it in a suncast plastic outdoor cabinet, and you can't hear it. Manual is completely devoid of instructions, but who reads those anyway. The FM antenna is not worth using, and I suspect this is why many say the receiver does not work. Just take some extra speaker wire and hook it up and you will have a better one than supplied with the unit. Let me put some of the bad comments that I read in the review to rest. First everything on my unit works. Ipod, MP3, USB, FM, AM, Volume, Treble, Bass, Microphone, Remote, AM antenna, all switches, etc... I do not have a low level buzz or hum as many have claimed. I assume they have either a poor connection with their speakers, or some other electrical issue such as a poor ground. The ipod dock and built in retractable audio cord for an mp3 player work fine, make sure your players volume is turned up as that does effect volume levels!. However, the receiver does not automatically "find" your devices if plugged in, you must use the input switch and change it to the ipod/usb device. This is normal for a receiver (it's not a plug and play computer). The receiver is "defaulted" to be used as a home theater - with the DVD set as the "default" input at each start up. The station search does work on the receiver, as do the station pre-sets (and they do hold their memory), but you do have to figure out how to use them, as the manual gives no real instructions. The search function literally found all of the stations my car can, without static, radio works well and pulls a good signal. Volume with 4 Dual outdoor speakers is plenty loud for our deck. All in all, I am surprisingly happy with the purchase, and as long as it keeps running would highly recommend/purchase this product. ... show more

  • Sounds great, looks cool, it does karaoke, but not CD-G
Style: Home Stereo 160W-Black
Sounds great, I love the bass response and the equalizer options are fun to play with. I wasn't really planning on using the karaoke/microphone feature, but I tried it and it works nicely, with a caveat. This system doesn't support the CD-G format, so it won't play karaoke CD's and with HDMI connection, project that onto your TV. Nope. But...if you go to a video player app on your TV, and play a track for karaoke with lyrics, it will play it on your TV and with the HDMI cable you can play the audio, and the mic/voice from the stereo. It's a workable system for sure, you just need to know that ahead of time. The lights on the speakers are adjustable and you can turn them off, and they are fun to have on, especially during karaoke. Set up was quick and easy. Trying to play the radio is a pain, but CD's, and bluetooth are quick and easy. ... show more

  • Disappointing and not manufactured by Pyle from decades past
Style: Amplifier System 300W with USB, SD Input
I wanted to like this product, but was remembering Pyle products from decades past. This receiver was very different. Do you have vinyl LP records? Forget it. There is no RIAA input for your turntable. In fact, there is only ONE input, so if you have more than one device to amplify, you would need to buy an external switch with multiple RCA jack inputs. I found it interesting that it has a volume control for a subwoofer on the front panel. The documentation is very rudimentary, missing lots of details, and no specs at all. The radio seems to work, but there is no tuning knob on the front panel. The big knob (Nice!) on the front panel is the volume control. Odd thing about volume settings, which are prominently displayed in db on the panel display, but there is no info anywhere (remember, no specs!) about what the db displayed is in reference to. Decibels need a reference, alone they are meaningless. If the display is showing power output referenced to 1 watt, +3 db would be 2 watts, +6 db = 4 watts, and +10 db = 10 watts. But the 4 page manual has no specifications listed. Nothing. Another odd thing is the FM tuning (not continuous like in older analog tuners) is in 100 KHz steps. In North America the channel spacing for FM broadcast are all odd numbers in 200 KHz steps, (98.1 MHz, 98.3 MHz, etc). So this makes tuning laborious, although perhaps this is so it can be marketed outside North America. On my unit, audio input from my TV did not work. The remote, which seemed to be the preferred way to operate the receiver, is difficult to understand. One comment from another user said there was no on/off button on the remote, but there actually is one, in the center of the up/down left/right control. Odd to me was the iPhone dock in the center of the top of the receiver. Other users say it only works on older phones. I am returning this receiver and shopping for another, maybe old school brands such as Sony, Pioneer or Kenwood. But no more Pyle products for me, please. ... show more
