We recently purchased this pergola in hopes that it would solve our sun/wind issues on our patio. We tried a 11 foot patio umbrella in the past and it moved around quite a bit due to wind. We were looking for something that would provide sun blocking and that would hold up in the wind as well and figured we would give this option a try. The product arrived quickly and was not damaged during shipping. The instructions were easy to follow and assembly went smoothly with 2 people. There were a couple of holes that were not drilled in the right place, but was easily corrected. The frame of the product is a lightweight, greyish colored aluminum and is sturdy when assembled. We ordered the grey canopy option and the color is very nice with the frame. We attached the pergola to our cement patio and so far, it has been great! The retractable cover is easy to use and locks into place when the canopy is open. We will add curtains or shades on the sides to help with some of the sun block due to the way the sun moves across our patio, but sun block from the canopy top is great. I had to reach out to customer service for one issue we had, but they followed up promptly and were able to take care of this matter quickly and properly. Being aluminum I was anticipating it being a little bit more shaky than it is, but once it's mounted to the concrete it's actually a very sturdy structure (assuming you take the canopy down in high winds). Looks really good and seller is awesome (part came damaged but they quickly replaced it and were very responsive). Highly recommend for the price! ... show more

I ordered this pergola so I could have some shade on my deck in the afternoon. The assembled product is great. The retractable cover is easy to deploy and retract, and it has two spring clips that hold it fairly securely in the closed position. Since it's lightweight aluminum, it does sway a bit with a moderate breeze, but not so much as to cause concern. The only thing I feel could be improved with the design is adding some way to hold the cover in the open position. I've addressed this by attaching a length of paracord to the strap and tying the other end to my deck railing. The only real issues I had with this product are around the assembly process. As some other reviewers have noted, there are many pieces and many screws involved in the assembly process. On my pergola, many of the screw holes didn't align perfectly with one another, so I had to spend a lot of time widening the holes with a drill so the screws would fit. One of the pieces in my kit also arrived with a large dent, but the company promptly sent me a replacement once I made them aware of the situation. Overall, I would still recommend this pergola with the caveat that you should expect to encounter some issues during assembly. If you are comfortable with this and are handy enough to address these issues, then this is a great product at a great price. I was able to assemble it entirely on my own, but I needed to get creative with ladders and rope to hold the frame steady when attaching the first two cross bars. I'd highly recommend having a second person available for at least this part of the assembly. ... show more

I purchased the 12' x 16' version. Delivery was easy and it came in 2 large boxes. The directions note that you will need 2 people - we had 6 there and all of us were busy! I would suggest at least 4 people. The structure is sturdy and looks great. Some of the holes for hardware were not exactly lined up and we needed to drill-out/widen some of them. We had a large thunderstorm with high winds the day after we put it up - it didn't move at all. But we were sure to secure the shade in the closed position. Overall it is a great product and we look forward to using it for a long time! My only complaint is that the price dropped by $119.00 shortly after we purchased it. :( ... show more

I went with Purple Leaf because of all the wonderful reviews. It did take some time to set up, we read the instructions a few times and followed them. The pergola looks great and works for us exactly as needed. It is lightweight so we screwed the legs into patio squares (as it was set up on the grass). It does not move at all in the wind but if I lean on it, it will move. Maybe I should have filled part of the legs with rocks? No matter, we love it!!! ... show more
