My son just started Marshall Arts Kenpo 5.0 and bought him this for practice and standing positions. It works but realistically speaking it’s for younger kids. My son ripped this thing within 2-3 months. But I do recommend it for younger children.

My 7 year old loves punching this thing (instead of me), which is great. This was our "introductory" punching bag and it's served well. It did bust open in one spot after about a week of use. Not sure how it happened, as we came back to it and noticed a slit about 1-1/2" long. But the included patch kit seemed to work well enough. At that point however, I opted to fill the base with sand, as 5 gallons of water on her upstairs bedroom carpet is not something I want to deal with. 5 gallons of water weights about 41 lbs, so I filled it up with an equivalent amount of sand (and sifted it to make sure there were no rocks or anything). It has held up just fine so far. But I should note the included instructions only call out water to be used. It says nothing about sand, but the fill hole was large enough that I was able to use a funnel and fill it easily enough (sort of a 2 person job though). My 9 year old daughter wished for a punching bag. Since I didn’t want one that takes up space in my house all time this was the perfect solution. It’s one of the biggest you can find as far as inflatables go, so I hope we can use it for some years. It’s super easy to set up and deflate if it’s no longer needed. Just put water in the base and inflate the top. With an electrical air pump this was done in under one minute. We set it up outside on artificial lawn though because I’m afraid of my hardwood floor in case the water filled base starts leaking for some reason. But so far it’s holding up perfectly. You just need to inflate a bit more from time to time because it’s loosing some of the air over a couple of days. ... show more

This is a great outlet for my 6 year old daughter to just release and get some exercise. To me the only downfall is how often this needs to be pumped up again. I filled the base with water outside my home with the hose and inflated the top portion with air from the hand pump that comes included. After a few days you have to fill the water but the air is good for a week. I understand it really depends on how often and hard your going at this but this feels more like a chore for me and I wish I would have know this prior. I think you do have the option of filling the base with sand but the opening is so small, I didn’t find that to be a option for me. This is again a fun kit for a kid but it should be able to withstand a beating for more than just a few days before needing to maintain it again. ... show more
