  • Really nice!
I chose this door because I want something to operate on solar power plus have the option of AC power. This door works really well! I use it on the timer function, but I may change that to light sensing as summer draws near. I don't need it for safety for my chicken ladies because my coop is entirely enclosed, but winters are cold and windy in my area and I want to keep them enclosed for warmth retention. It's GREAT to not have to go out and close or open the coop, and the ladies are much better off. Before I got this door, they were getting damage to their combs from the cold, so I know they are more comfortable. If anyone is curious, I run heavy gauge extension cords out to the coop, and have a Cozy Coop flat heater set on low with a timer on 6 pm-6 am in one corner of the hen house, and an electric large dog dish for water to keep that from freezing. Oh, and Christmas lights (connected to a light sensor timer for on/off) on the outside for fun because I can see them from my window. Also a couple small solar powered lights just because I like them. I use electricity out there for fall and winter, then just solar for spring and summer since they don't need a heater or heated water dish in warmer months. I had a little trouble with the door, but I contacted ProShine through Amazon (go to Returns and Orders, find the order, go to the product page and you'll find a link to email them). They were very responsive and helpful! This door may be a little more expensive, but I like the features very much and the customer support. I would definitely buy a ProShine door again. ... show more

  • Works good.
Not the best, but not too bad. The photocell needs to have light for anything to work. If the photocell isn’t mounted up first, with clear sky view then setup/ troubleshooting is difficult. Wish there was a “close/open” button on the door so you don’t have to have remote everytime you open/ close. I installed it and it worked, then laid the photocell down for testing and it stopped working. Removed it, reinstalled it, and mounted photocell and it worked again. Not a big deal, but a lot of wasted time. Troubleshooting ... show more

  • Upgraded door works as expected.
2nd update: After installing the new, upgraded door, the door will reverse if something gets in the way. Door will then try closing again after about a minute, once door is clear. Make sure you get the model with the upgraded sensor. Update: Proshine is sending me an upgraded door that has a built in sensor to retract if the chickens get in the way. I will provide another update once the new door arrives. If door works as expected , I would upgrade to 5 stars. Great customer service. Door does not work as advertised. Door does not retract and just stops and keeps the pressure on. If a chicken was in the way, it would either break the chickens neck or just trap it under the door to die. ... show more

  • Has not worked as intended more than a handful of days since it was installed 3 weeks ago.
Was easy to install, but it isn't working as intended. We have the solar panel hooked up and it didn't work, so we added the battery pack. It worked once, then all the lights were off the next morning and the door had not opened. I changed the batteries to new Everready batteries and it worked that evening and the next morning. This morning I went out and the lights were off again. I cannot figure out how to get it to open and close or even stay on. I wanted to contact the company, but I don't see anywhere to contact the company for customer service to help or replace parts. I guess my only option is to put the old wood door back on and return it. Very disappointed. ... show more

  • Happy with this purchase!
We actually really love this door. It works as promised. Install was a breeze. The instructions for setting the timer were slightly vague, but still manageable/easy to figure out. We haven’t had any problems, Chickens getting hurt. We love the rain shield, timer, the handy dandy keychain remotes and the doors aesthetic and cool lighting. The remotes could be a little sturdier, drop them once on the plastic shed floor, and the back pops off, the battery flys out, and gets effectively and forever lost down the crack between the wooden step and plastic chicken shed. Lol. All in all, great overall purchase! ... show more

  • Works great
As you can see in the 3rd photo I already had two other doors ones the same type as this without the sensor and the other was a roll up door. I needed an automatic door on the outside of the chicken run to replace the manual one I put in 2 yr ago because I'm terminally ill and I free range my chickens. It just an extra layer of protection at night and if wild animals get in the fenced off area they have a way to get away from them in a secure area. It comes with a rain guard but I found it doesn't really do that much especially when it rains sideways and since this door is fully exposed I just use an extra piece of plastic above where the door fully opens and around it leaving the bottom open. I'm using it on a timer so the sensor is not an issue for me. I have found that I actually prefer to use the timers on all of mine doors instead of this light sensors. ... show more

  • All my chickens died since i installed this.
We were opening and closing the coop every day but decided to try this auto coop door. it seemed fine but kept messing up the time. probably was shutting off or something. we have it hooked up to the solar panel but must not produce enough power. Since it was messing up the time it was not closing at night when it should. So after many resets and checking it, all 15 of our chickens are dead from having the coop door open at wrong time. i do not recommend this product. we were doing just fine for years opening and closing the coop, but all that money, time, work, and production is gone because we relied on this auto coop door. never again…….. updated: the customer service was great, they refunded me, and tried to make it right. ... show more
