  • Works great. Excellent warranty service.
Pattern Name: 30 Amp EMS Style: Portable
I like the various readouts, and safety features. After several months, the surge protector started giving erroneous readings, so I contacted Progressive Industries. After hearing my description of the problem, they asked me to send them a picture of the plug to show there was not an issue with the electrical connection at the source. They determined the circuit board was "fried" and promptly sent me a new replacement. They told me to throw the old one away. Since I was curious about the surge protector, I took it apart. It turns out there was a leak around where the plug entered the cover that allowed water to enter. So I dried out the circuit board, and reassembled it. It has been working fine ever since. TIP: Tighten the nut that compresses the gasket that seals the cord where it enters the box. It seems quality control was the issue. The actual quality of the surge protector is excellent. ... show more

  • Better than an external one
Pattern Name: 30 Amp EMS w/ Integrated Display Style: Hardwired
I put this under the seat behind the electrical connector. Make sure that you have the polarity correct before you hook up it or else you'll have to take the whole thing out and put it back in. I like that if there is a power surge this thing should fry instead of my converter / fridge. There should be a part that you can replace a surge happens but I haven't needed to replace it yet. ... show more

  • Awesome tech support/product
Pattern Name: 30 Amp EMS w/ Integrated Display Style: Hardwired
Running my RV thru a homemade solar trailer, I plan on doing a lot of dry camping however when I do camp at a campground I want to use the grid to charge batteries (15.6 kw) and as most know these pedastools can be wired wrong or bootlegged I want my system protected! Ran into a few issues and tech support was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful some of the best tech support I’ve ever dealt with and product is a must have to truly protect your system (RV) ... show more

  • Great RV surge protector with digital display
Pattern Name: 50 Amp EMS Style: Portable
This surge protector is easy to use and displays several items, including amps and error codes. We feel safer at campgrounds with unfamiliar with power supplies, knowing that the RV is protected from surges and spikes. There is a cover to protect the plug going into the device and a metal tab to lock it to the campground pedestal. We used a long padlock and it works great to prevent this from being stolen. ... show more

  • Great EMS for RVs! Size could be a concern depending on placement.
Pattern Name: 50 Amp EMS w/ Integrated Display Style: Hardwired
We bought our first RV (previously used parents' RV) and the first recommended purchase everyone has is: "Get a surge protector!" We purchased the EMS-LCHW50 with the built in display. Those who are a bit more familiar with appliances/electronics know that a surge is not the only condition that can wreak havoc on these devices. This "surge protector" is the complete package (hence the EMS). We decided to go the hardwired route. For one, this unit is less expensive than it's portable counterparts and, for two, it is field serviceable in the event of a surge. I did perform the install myself and it can be tackled by a DIY'er that is knowledgeable of electrical wiring. There are a few videos out there (including some from Progressive Industries) that do a decent job of walking you through the install steps, but if you have any doubts, definitely contact a licensed electrician as a mishap could result in costly repairs. Average consumers may not have all of the appropriate tools (cable cutter, heavy gauge wire stripper, heavy gauge terminal crimper) on-hand to perform the install. One challenge with the 50A models is trying to make connection with the contactor in such a small space, especially with the "donuts" that have to be installed. Most install videos show the 30A models which are quite spacious in comparison. Please take into consideration the install location (this will be dependent on where your main connection to shore power is located). Mine is inside the bathroom cabinet and the cabinet has a very shallow depth. You may find this unit too deep to fit inside of a tight space. LCHW models (w/ built-in display) will not allow you to add remote display (plan to go with the HW##C model if you'd like this). If you're installing behind an access panel or a location that is difficult to access, I would recommend the HW##C model with the remote display. If the mounting location is easily accessible, or if you're mounting inside an outdoor storage compartment, the LCHW model may be a little cleaner. Pros: Can perform install yourself if sufficiently inclined All around protection from electrical anomalies Display shows error codes when issues arise and it always shows current, voltage, frequency for each line Field serviceable Less expensive than portable models Little/No concerns regarding theft or leaving hardwired model behind at the campsite. Cons: Tight quarters inside the unit for wiring 50A models Unit is quite deep and could prohibit install in tight spaces No flexibility to add a remote display to LCHW models Replacement surge board does not appear to be readily available for purchase without contacting manufacturer. I'd love to have a backup on-hand in the event of a surge so that I don't have to bypass and go unprotected if I have a few more days of camping to go. **Note for those with generators** This unit will throw an error for generators that do not have a bonded neutral. One solution is to bypass the EMS (Progressive Industries makes a convenient bypass switch that you can add to the hardwired EMS units). Another is to bond your generator. ... show more
