I bought this cutter for auto and motorcycle filters. As long as the filter's threads are lower than the filter's gasket surface it works perfect. If the filter's threads extend above the gasket surface then it will be dificult to keep the blade tracking as you cut around the filter. Obviously if there are ribs in the cutting blade zone (1/2") from the gasket surface it's going to be difficult. More turns and less cutting wheel pressure will assure the blade does not break and you get a cleean cut. For the price, this is an excellent tool!

Worked as I hoped. Work in car dealership. Curious whether OEM filters are superior as they say. Saved filters for a month. Out of the box the tool cut 30 different filters. No issues. Since probably only cut 10 more.

Easy to use on the larger oil filter of my Ford 6.7 L. Diesel Pickup. Very Easy to open the small oil filters on gas-powered vehicles. Other than an oil sample inspecting the filter media is a sure way to keep track of the engine condition.

Works great had no issue and didn’t need to modify anything. Put filter in the vice and tools cut thru perfectly. Maybe some other users don’t understand how to use it but you don’t tighten it all the way down and try to cut in one pass. It’s designed to be slightly tightened and as you cut slowly tighten more till it cuts thru. Very similar to how an exhaust cutter works. When used like this it’s cut thru the in about 1 minute. Great tool worth the money.

This cutter is well designed and durable, I like the fact that bearings and cutter can be easily replaced. We cut 20 Filters in row, small ones and large ones, and this cutter worked flawless. Just operate it like you operate a pipe cutter (without applying too much pressure and make sure the filter flange is straight against the cutters back) it will cut the filters open nicely with 5-10 spins. Don't use it like a can opener by trying to open a filter in one turn, because cutters don't work that way. P.S. some reviews mention issues and design flaws, we did not experience any of this.

I used the cutter to open an aircraft filter. I found it easy to use and I am happy with it. I couldn't believe how much easier it was to use than my old filter cutter. That said, I've only cut one filter and time will tell how durable it is. It looks durable though -I like the bearings -The knob to adjust the pressure works well and lets me put enough toque on it.
