This prevents the tabs from cracking or breaking off which can lead to serious oil leaks.
  • FITS A WIDE RANGE OF FILTERS - Outdated filter wrenches have limited fitment and only work with filters for either 1.8L or 2.5-5.7L engines. I saw this was a popular tool in one of the Toyota forum so decided to bite the bullet and see how well it worked. It's one of those "buy once, cry once" item but I can confidently say, it's worth every penny. The craftsmanship is excellent. The fit tolerance is very tight enough that I thought I had the wrong size at first. But once it grips the plastic oil filter, there was no play I can feel. I made sure I did not over torque the filter (doesn't take much) but more than anything, this oil filter wrench worked very smoothly. While I'm only doing oil changes every 5K miles (close to six months), I feel it's worth the cost. I highly recommend it. Along with Fumoto valve to make releasing old oil instead of having to take off the oil plug every time! ... show more

This is a nice filter wrench. Excellent fit and finish. Very well made. Looks machined but with no tooling marks with uniform, full surface finish. Clear, full graphics.. Replaceable squaredrive fitting. Quality tools are always worth it to me.

Works as intended on my Tundra. Tends to get stuck on the filter housing, and has to be pried to slide off. MotivX may need to make a tool to remove this one.

    • Perfect fit, strong, light.
For removing Toyota oil filter housings. There are tons of $8-$15 plastic and garbagey pot-metal filter removal tools on this site and they have a lot of horror reviews. They might work if everything is perfect, but chances are some kid at a quickie lube has over tightened or burred your filter housing. That is why you need this tool. Do not be tempted by the cheap ones. This tool fits very snuggly still not slip. But it doesn’t get stuck on. Also, it does not have the “fingers” other tools have, which slip and break off the fins of your housing. This tool can withstand a lot of rotational torque. It attaches using a standard 1/2” ratchet fitting on the internal part of the attachment. There are many reviews that say this part strips out too easily. My guess is because a lot of those reviewers used a “wobble bar” extension to reach the filter. That in their mistake. Most extensions are wobble bars but they have a reduced surface area, so the pressure isn’t even in the fitting. Use a regular square extension and you should be good. However, if your filter housing is incredibly tight, you can also use the outside hex part of the attachment with a metric socket. That will give you even more torque ability. Some reviewers complain about that part rounding too. My bet is they are using a 12 point socket that has reduced surface area. Always use a 6 point socket and you should be able to put massive pressure on this tool to remove even the most stubborn filter housing. BUT, if worst comes to worst and you do damage the socket attachment, this tool is two-part, and the attachment is easily to replace. ... show more
