Description

The Powerbuilt Unijack is the world's first and only portable jack designed to safely lift and hold both regular and unibody cars and trucks. All Unibody vehicles have factory-approved lifting points to prevent damage when jacking up the vehicle. But with a conventional jack, it’s challenging to properly lift and hold a unibody vehicle, because once the vehicle is raised with a jack, there’s no space left to add a jackstand. The Powerbuilt Unijack solves this problem with an ingenious design that both safely lifts and securely holds a Unibody vehicle using a single lift point. The Unijack offers both concave and flat lifting surfaces to accommodate a wide variety of lift points. The 4000 pound Unijack offers lift range from 8-5/8 to 18-3/8 inches, which makes it perfect for sedans, minivans and crossovers.

This is designed to work in place of a jack stand, a bottle jack or a floor jack offering something in addition to each of those. Unfortunately, this has limitations in each of the applications where you would have used those especially for automotive purposes. Like the rest of automotive industry that hasn't standardized on jack points, this unit has its own saddle design that is neither like a jack stand nor a floor jack nor a bottle jack. So, none of the third party pad adapters you can get for any of those will work. The pad offered by Powerbuilt itself doesn't fit the 2ton (4000lb) version despite the representation it does. So, you land up improvising the usual hockey puck or wood block or whatever to interface which makes the minimum height of this unit even more of a problem and less sturdy. The bent angles on the "stand" saddle will dig into things in the car it shouldn't otherwise without spreading the load. For most small cars, the minimum height is too high for use on the sides as might be needed for a tire change or a brake job. So, one will need to initially lift the vehicle with something else (what one might be trying to avoid in the first place). And one would need to have the car still lifted and held by something else while coming down so this unit can be removed first. The length and movement of the pump arm is such that the lifting is very, very slow and painful even for a sub 3000lb car. On the positive side, it did work as a bottle jack with an attached stand and an automatic lock that works. It has had no leaks so far in a couple of days of use. Where it will come in the most useful is to be able to lift the car much higher than a typical jack included with the car, and not require both a floor jack and a stand for that use. This can be made much more useful by providing common adapters that fits its saddle design for typical lift points (although it will make it too expensive if sold separately). If they can design an adapter that would be able to lift from a lower height with the unit standing outside of the car skirt, that would make it very useful and brilliant in design. Many cars come with side holes for the factory included jacks. This would be enough for a tire change operation better than the supplied jack and be portable. In summary, this is a good thing to have in addition to the factory jack for peace of mind without having to carry a separate jack stand or rely on the factory jack alone. Or if you need to lift and hold at a much higher height. But note that the total lift is only about 5". So if you want the max 18" height, you will have to start with an initial 13" height. So it isn't exactly ideal for either of those use cases given the limitations above. ... show more

    • Best jack I have used for lifting a truck

I bought this jack hoping that it would be able to safely lift my truck. Most of the jacks I have purchased in the past do not lift my truck high enough without using blocks. This jack has no problem lifting my truck so that I can remove my wheels. The best thing about it is that it also has a built in jack stand which makes me feel safe. It is compact enough that I can carry it with my off-road gear and does not take up much space in my vehicle. My truck has a 2 inch lift. This jack is good alternative to a bumper jacket. It may not have enough lift if you have a vehicle with a 6 inch lift with large tires. ... show more

I recently used this to lift the front tire on a 10000 lb. utility vehicle. Very happy with the stability and peace of mind knowing that the jack was combined with a jack stand. Was able to successfully change a tie rod end in a parking lot (where the truck broke down) with this jack/jack stand. This is the only opportunity I've had to use this tool (fortunately) so I will update if anything concerning the quality changes. ... show more

    • So Much Better than a Floor Jack!

I always hated dragging the floor jacks around and then still needing another jack stand to support the vehicle. Many times the car only has 1 jack point so it was impossible to jack up the car and then be able to put the jack stand. This has helped Tremendously in allowing me to easily jack up all 4 corners for tire rotations and I feel safe doing it as I can lock it in place. Highly Recommend these! ... show more

This jack stand has safety all over it. The base, the hydraulic jack stand combination put safety when working on a car. I strongly recommend it for do-it-yourself mechanics. It is worth the money jack stands.

This is a nicely made jack with the added safety of the ratcheting stand, however make sure you measure your intended use, the 6000 lb model, at it's lowest setting, only just fits under my 2018 highlander so it was great for a brake job but would not have fitted underneath for changing a flat tire for example ... show more
