  • Great way to plant bulbs in flower beds
Planted about 70 bulbs and small plants! Easy to make perfect holes!

  • Great product but wish I also had the larger one
I've been using the 2"x7" auger for the last couple of days and it does a great job. However, I am finding that the width of the holes is really tight for getting daffodil bulbs planted and I expect the same for the tulips I'll be planting in two days. Plus the recommended depth for some of the bulbs I'm planting is six to eight inches. Since this auger is only seven inches, it makes it difficult to get to the required depth. Many of the bulbs I planted needed to be just four inches down and were pretty small bulbs so this auger was just right for those. But having the 3"x12" auger in addition to this one would be the way I'd want to go for those larger daffodil and tulips bulbs. Also, I would recommend using some 12" kitchen tongs with this auger. Drill the hole, then use the tongs to clean out the hole since dirt will invariably fall back in to the hole. You can also use the tongs to place the bulb upright in the hole since you are not likely going to be able to reach down to the bottom to manipulate the bulb with your fingers. ... show more

  • This auger dug 6 one cubic foot in five minutes per hole. It got it done. Very good tool.
This auger dug 6 one cubic foot hole in 5 minutes per hole. It was in rocky backfill very tough going. I used the bit in a half inch drill. It started grabbing into the soil, rocks and chips of concrete went flying (use goggles) and I scooped out the hole. Done in 5 minutes. The bit took a beating in the rockiest dirt I have ever dug a hole in. Very tough, very good bit. The drill was an off brand drill. I bought this drill just for this job. Also a tough drill. These tools could probably dig 100 holes that are 1 cubic feet in regular soil not not extremely rocky soil.. There are also bits with extended shafts. There could be a problem with extended shafts with all the tork in tough rocky soil. ... show more

  • Beefy, well-made auger
Having retired to Roanoke, VA from Colorado, we live in a neighborhood on a large hill. In our backyard we have a steep bowl which is difficult to mow so we decided to replant several iris beds that would be destroyed when our pending patio is built. We have several hundred iris bulbs so digging replanting holes was not what I was looking forward to. Then I discovered Power Planter! What a game changer. This auger is very beefy and well built. It has a squared-off shaft so it won't spin in your drill if it gets into some tough dirt. And it handled the clay soil of Virginia like it was butter. I drilled the first 32 holes in a matter of minutes. I definitely recommend you watch the video on the Power Planter website about how to use this auger. And I have an additional handle on my drill that helped me stabilize while I was drilling the holes. All in all, this is a great tool that I'm sure I'll be using for years. Thank for making a lazy gardener into a happy planter. ... show more

  • Beefy. Fine after 500 holes.
I could tell upon inspection that my extra money was well spent on this one. The welds are thick long beads about 1.5" each at top and bottom of the auger, not a typical made in China spot weld job. The auger material and thickness are robust. The shank and shaft are beefy. I added my shaft extension and went to town with a 2 handed high torque mixing drill.. 500 holes appx 3" deep in 3 hours. It hit some rocks along the way and lost some paint, but otherwise it's in perfect shape. An extension or a longer bit is a must if you're doing a lot of holes. Total back saver. If it grabs a root, it will quickly Archimedes screw it's way to China. I found that a moderately high speed and slow gentle pressure are best. It'll turn the waste/backfilling soil to a finer grain and cut the smaller roots rather than grab roots and shoot out clods of soil. ... show more

  • Excellent auger made in the USA
You can buy cheaper "made in China" ones. Don't. These are the best and will last.
