  • No One Like Nose Hair. This Helps.
People sometimes look at getting older in a completely negative light. I'm happy to say that there are many aspects of being in my mid-40s that are just fine. I am in great physical condition. I am old enough to say something in a meeting and have other people take me seriously, and yet young enough that the 20-somethings with whom I work can still consider me cool (or at least that's what I tell myself). But one thing they don't necessarily tell you about in the book of aging: hair tends to start sprouting from places you'd really never had to maintain in your younger years. Perhaps it is making up for the retreat from my skull. In any case, I never previously had a need for such a device as a nose hair trimmer. Well, that's not true; I've needed one for at least four years. But perhaps being in a state of denial, I never purchased a dedicated tool for said need. Instead, I grimaced at the hair that extended from my nostrils, and hacked away at them with a small pair of scissors. As I would attempt this, I would get a macabre daydream of slipping and falling, jamming said scissors into my brain, and dying in an ignobious manner. Plus, it never really worked very well... and was especially unnerving when I'd try the same thing with the hair that began emerging from my ears. Enter the Panasonic ER430K. Since this was my first purchase of a grooming device such as this, I looked at reviews and compared feature sets and all that stuff that a good consumer is supposed to do. What I found was that a) people liked the 430K and b) there wasn't that huge of a price difference between this top-of-the-line Panasonic model and their lesser offerings. Plus, I was already buying holiday gifts for other people at the time, so I might as well bite the bullet and get this device at a good price and with the free shipping that came along with my sizable Amazon order. It was about as simple as possible to set up. Unscrew the battery compartment, pop in a AA battery, and there you are. The next part -- using the device -- seemed self-explanatory. You turn on the switch, and stick it into your nose. Since it has a built-in vacuum, you aren't facing the somewhat disgusting task of cleaning your discarded nose hair clippings from your nose and the front of your shirt after using it. I will say, for those of you with little experience in these matters: shoving a buzzing razor into your nose is an odd experience at best, and you should be prepared for it to tickle in a way that you probably haven't felt before. The same goes for the first time you use it in your ears. That having been said, it seems to be tremendously effective. I am happy to say that in looking in the mirror after my first use, both my nose and ears were quickly devoid of unwanted hair. And that's why we get devices like this one, isn't it? Look, I'm fine being in my mid-40s. I'm fine with my greying beard, and the bit of wobble around my waistline. But the nose and ear hair had to go. The Panasonic ER430K did everything I wanted it to, was easy to use, and didn't cost a lot. What more can I ask for? ... show more

  • 8 years and still going--important fix info
This is my first and only nose trimmer. I was apprehensive at the idea of sticking a spinning cutting machine up my nose, with thoughts of nasty cutting or ripping of hairs. After gingerly tip-toeing into actually using this thing, I soon became confident that it would in fact not do any of these things! In 8 years, it may have pulled a hair once or twice when the battery was about dead, and also 2 or 3 times it sort of bit the inner bony part because I got too aggressive and accidentally turned to an off-angle. Respect this machine, and it will do it's work efficiently and painlessly! I use it for my nose, random ear sightings, and eyebrow trimming. More recently adopting facial hair, it comes in handy spot trimming near my mouth and nose. I love this machine. Runs a long time (months) on one AA battery, throw in your travel bag. Trimming bliss--until 6 months ago. It started cutting out, revving down, back up again, stopping abruptly. Not cool, this is how you could pull hair. Shaking the unit seemed to help. Changing the angle seemed to help. What the hecK? Changed the battery--nope. Cleaned the battery contacts--nope. I thought, maybe the springy minus (-) battery contact got compressed, so I bent it up a little--nope. I was back here on Amazon to buy another unit, and checked the reviews. After getting past all the haters, one person said it WAS the battery contact and that fixed identical symptoms. So...I tried again, this time getting a needle nose pliers and pulling the darned spring up maybe 1/4", seemed greatly excessive and unlikely to make a difference. THAT FIXED IT. I'm and electrical engineer, and it took me 6 months to believe it could be that simple, but it was. Please give this a try to save yours if you have the same symptoms. Yes, this machine uses a lot of plastic, and I can't swear that my 2013 unit is the same as what they make in 2021, but I think this is a high quality product. ... show more

  • Great device but quit after 18 months. Otherwise, I would give it five stars.
I really like the trimmer and it worked great until suddenly it quit andnew batteries didn't help. I will just have to buy another one since there was no service policy.

  • Works Well
I got this mainly for trimming the hair out of my ears. It works well for that. I also use it to shorten the nose hair that ends up sticking out of my nose - it works well for that too. And I've used it to take care of stray eyebrow hairs too. much quieter than I expected, I like that. But note: while the instructions show how to open the battery compartment and say to be sure to maintain correct battery polarity, THEY DO NOT DESCRIBE NOR SHOW THE CORRECT BATTERY ALIGNMENT. NEITHER IS THE TRIMMER MARKED ANYWHERE. I FIRST put the AA battery in negative down, and it would not run. I reversed it and it ran. THE BATTERY IS INSTALLED POSITIVE DOWN, NEGATIVE UP in the battery compartment. The drawings in the instruction sheet are the very minimal. WHY CAN'T INSTRUCTIONS USE PHOTOS INSTEAD OF SIMPLISTIC LINE DRAWINGS?. While the box and the instructions say it can be used in the shower or bath. I STRONGLY URGE AGAINST FLOODING THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT WITH WATER. This is an invitation to corrosion that can damage any device. The battery compartment is not water proof in my opinion. I see no advantage in using this wet over dry. I struggled a little getting the battery cover closed, but it is not difficult, you just need to be careful in aligning the cover wit the opening and not forcing it closed, but letting it "click" into locked position. The zippered cloth case is nice and fits well. The protective cover over the blades comes off easily, so I recommend keeping the trimmer covered in the case and not tossing in in a drawer without the case. All in all I'm pleased with this trimmer and glad i got it. Quickly takes care of a chore that is tedious with small scissors or my beard/mustache trimmer. I recommend this trimmer. ... show more
