  • For the money, a fantastic help for people with mobility issues
Color: Charcoal
If you've ever been a caregiver for a person with mobility issues or are handicapped, then you know how difficult the simple act of standing can be. A lift chair is an excellent solution to this problem but can be expensive. Enter this product. While still not cheap, this chair's price point is below competitor's. As the person I care for, my dad, is not wealthy, and neither am I, I thought I would try this product. After carefully reading its specs, I thought it might work. I had several concerns. Would the fabric be comfortable? Was it wide enough? Would it provide sufficient support? How fast does it move? Could it operate close to the upper limit of its rated weight range? Was it simple to operate? Easy to build? Stable? I didn't know, and there was only one way to find out. I ordered it and eagerly awaited its arrival. Dad was even more curious, of course. If the chair worked, it would really help him with some degree of independence and convenience. When it came in, I expected a very large box. There were two boxes, both large and heavy. I'd suggest you have help assembling and installing this. In our case, my brother dropped by, and we unboxed it. I was afraid of a large box of screws, vague instructions, and a million parts. I had a small pile of tools ready and figured the assembly process would take hours. Nope. It was as easy as pie, with a few minor exceptions. First, we unboxed the components, looked in the handy instructions to ensure we had all the parts, and began with the heaviest part, the base, resting on the ground. Conveniently, or by design, one starts with the base. First, ensure the base is approximately where you want the chair to go. Ensure you have an outlet handy; you'll need to connect the chair to 110V power. The power cord is long. Most houses won't have a problem here. One note is to be careful when you pick up the base to get the box out from under it; it will extend, so make sure your hands can't be pinched. After the box was out of the way and we were confident the power cord couldn't be pinched, we began. The only tool necessary is the provided Phillips screwdriver. You use it to remove four screws that hold on a shipping brace. That's it. The rest of the assembly involves lining up clever flanges that hold the chair together. First, you insert the arm braces. These go into flanges. Test fit by wiggling the arms. They should feel very solid. We messed this up and discovered that one arm needed to be correctly installed; that side wobbled, and the other did not. We did it again, and the second time, we ensured that both flanges were fully seated. It is possible to engage just one flange. There are two. Make sure they are fully engaged! Once the arm braces are properly seated, you do the backrest. It slips onto two locking prongs. Use a flashlight and ensure they click fully into place. After this step, secure the velcro fabric flaps. Then, install the backrest sides. That's it. Using the supplied instructions, the chair was done by two people who had never done this before. It took about twenty minutes. However, we were careful to do a proper job; Dad falling from the chair would be a disaster. We took our time and only connected electric power at the end. It was time to test the chair. Dad weighs 291 pounds, so I was a little nervous. He shuffled over and sat, grasping the control and pushing the buttons. This was when we learned that the labels on the controls weren't intuitive. We looked in the instructions and found a correction page for the controls—the box is labeled opposite of what the chair does. Because the chair moves very slowly (important!), it isn't a big deal, and there are only two buttons. After this hiccup, Dad figured it out. He surprised me. I thought he would want to try the stand-assist function first. No, he reclined the chair fully and started wiggling around. When we asked what he was doing, we discovered he had an incident with a recliner once that tipped over backward. He wanted to see if this one would do it, too, while both of us were present. Smart! It did not. It was very solid. Dad was satisfied, and frankly, I was impressed. He really tossed around. Then, he tried the stand-assist. We watched carefully as the chair slowly brought him to a good angle to reach for his walker, and he stood without a problem. This was a major success! We noticed that the chair moved a little on the hardwood floor, and I was worried he might slip when he tried to stand. We decided to get an aggressive non-slip mat for the chair, and he didn't slip when the chair brought him upright, so it wasn't a problem. I mentioned before how the chair must move slowly. This is important. Handicapped people can't move fast to correct problems; this chair helps them by being slow. Also, I paid close attention to the sound of the motor. I wanted to detect signs of strain. There were none. The chair could easily handle someone close to its maximum rated range. We had Dad undergo several complete cycles to test the machine before we were confident there were no problems. Then my brother had a good idea. Dad got up (easily, thanks to the stand-assist), and my brother sat down. He wanted to see if the chair moved faster with someone nearly a hundred pounds lighter or if the motor sounded differently. Neither thing was true. The chair acted just as it had when Dad sat in it. This was impressive! Now, he's used it for a couple of days. He's slept in it (it's comfortable), read books in it, gotten up any number of times, and it lifts his legs to help his circulation. Also, it is generously sized in width and is solid and sturdy. We couldn't be happier! Of course, I reserve the right to revise this review if this chair fails prematurely or if any unsafe events occur. But so far, so good! Impressive. Recommend. ... show more

  • Parachute pull glider recliner
Update: The glider chair I review here has since been removed from this page, but I am leaving this review in case it comes back. (Be wary of other reviews that do not specify which chair.) At the price of $199, this is an amazing little glider. It has become my favorite place to sit in the house. It glides so smoothly! The nubby fabric is velvety soft. I feel like a queen. What a great value... assuming they don't raise the price! I am 5'6" and my head rests comfortably leaning back just over the top of the seat. My husband is a tall person, and he can't rest his head back. The foot rest is just about as short as I would want too. It is a great compact size for my small front drawing room, and he can use the other recliner, so I'm good with the size. (Compare the size to my black recliner in the pic!) The minus star is because of the parachute pull for the reclining mechanism. I find it a bit awkward to pull it, but much moreso to push the footrest firmly back in place and then make it snap so it will stay down. An elderly person might not have enough strength to do it, I'm guessing. (This is not the version that has a lift-seat.) The off-white color is perfect for brightening my space but I am afraid it won't resist stains so I'm looking to cover it with the same color. The advantage though, is that I've told everyone not to sit in the chair until I get it covered... which means it is always available for me. :-D ... show more

  • Very nice quality
Color: Charcoal
I have purchased other lift chairs in the past so when I saw the price of this one I was expecting maybe a medium quality chair. When my husband took it out of the boxes he honestly thought that I had spent a great deal more on it than I did. It's a very nice chair. Keep in mind that it does come in two different boxes, so if you have only received one keep an eye out for the second. My brother-in-law who just had intensive surgery is currently using it and I'm probably going to have trouble getting it back from him. He says it's extremely comfortable for him and has been a lifesaver after that surgery. He is about 300 lb and sits in it most of the day for the time being and it has held up extremely well. Assembly was easy, it only took a couple minutes for my husband to assemble it to which is nice. It's a really good size even for a grown man. I would definitely say that this is a huge value for your money. These typically cost much more than this, trust me. ... show more

  • Comfy and Convient Delivery
My recliner was delivered in 2 boxes which was great, it made getting it inside and into the living room much easier than a fully assembled chair. Assembly was fast and easy, everything pretty much snapped together. The fabric is nice and the chair is comfortable and relaxing. I particularly like that it rocks and swivels, that makes positioning it easy. Happy with this chair and glad I found it. ... show more

  • Swivel Recliner Glider Rocker Chair
Easy to put together. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. At 5'3" the chair is perfect for me, however, someone taller would likely find it a little uncomfortable as my head sits taller than the back of the chair. It's overall comfortable. Releasing the leg rest is easy, the handle is firm. Lowering the leg rest takes a bit of effort to get it locked back in place. The Swivel is wonderful and the rocking is smooth and nice. ... show more

  • Great for anyone needing assistance standing!
Color: Charcoal
First off you need to know this moves slowly as it is designed for an elderly person to assist in standing. The last thing you want is to be launched from the chair so this is a positive! The chair is very comfortable and very stable in use. The motor seems to be able to effortlessly operate even if the person sitting is large. This really is amazing especially considering the price as these chairs usually cost considerably more. As long as it holds up well over time it will be an amazing product! ... show more
