Love these rods. I am on my fourth set of these and they all have performed great. Since these are what I am learning on, I appreciate the consistent quality and low spatter. I have used other random rods and can see the difference between them and am always glad to have the opportunity to use these compared to some of the nightmares I have experienced with other ones. I did get a portable oven to bake the moisture out of my rods, but I haven't had the opportunity to even test that oven because these weld so great that I don't need to. I have offered to bake some rods of friends after trying to weld with their rods, but they don't seem to care about it too much. I really need to insist at some point so I can review that oven. I may have to go get some from HF and leave them outside for a few weeks because if I keep using these, I will never need the oven. I suppose having fresh rods is fairly safe anyway but I really don't have years of experience to really know that for sure. Somehow, I don't think that is probably true, which is why I got the oven to begin with. I hate welding with wet rods, so I had to find a way to deal with them when it happens. Honestly, low splatter may or may not be a real thing with these. It is hard to really say as a beginner but I can say that it is way less than I expected. If I were to use anti splatter spray, there would be zero balls left in the end, I am sure. The ones that do show up break free very easily, so not a big deal and the weld looks clean. I do have to mention the pricing on these are varying greatly from time to time and I am not sure what to make of that. It's like they are testing the market directly and will eventually land on a price that performs the best sales. Not sure what is going on with that.

I ordered these welding rods for some general mild steel work and overall I am quite happy with how they perform. These are standard E6013 rods in a one eighth inch size, which I find to be a very useful and versatile diameter for a lot of the light steel projects I tend to do. They strike an arc easily, maintain a stable arc, and lay down a nice bead with minimal spatter from my experience. I tested them on a few different pieces of mild and low carbon steel and they welded cleanly with good control. Slag removal was easy and the finished welds looked tidy without needing much cleanup afterward. Penetration felt appropriate for thin to medium thickness material, which is exactly what I expected from this type of rod. They worked well in multiple positions and felt forgiving to use, even when moving a bit quicker than ideal. One thing worth mentioning is that my smaller portable welder does struggle slightly with these rods, but that is more a limitation of the machine than the rods themselves. On my larger two hundred twenty volt tombstone style welder, they run just fine and perform consistently. I did notice a few rods with some minor crumbling in the coating, but nothing that prevented use or affected the weld quality in any meaningful way. The plastic container they come in is actually a nice bonus. It keeps the rods clean and dry and will be handy when I only want to take a small batch with me for an outdoor or off site project. For the quantity included, I think they are a fair value and comparable in quality to other rods I have used in the past. Overall, these rods do exactly what they are supposed to do. They produce clean welds, have low spatter, feed well, and are easy to work with on mild steel projects. I would not hesitate to order them again.

My first impression of the PLOWIC Portable Welding Machine is really positive. I got it mainly for small fixes around the house, and it feels solid and well-designed right out of the box. The balanced handheld design makes it easy to maneuver, and the LCD display is a nice touch for monitoring settings. I played with it for about 15 minutes just testing it out, and it seems to perform well. The MMA, Hot Start, and Arc Force modes are easy to switch between, and it handles 1/16"-1/8" rods without issue. For quick, light welding tasks, this unit seems like a reliable little tool.

The media could not be loaded. This welder was selected because it was able to stick weld, was lightweight, and offered welding options in a small portable size. The unit came with some accessories that, while small, were feeble in performing their functions, such as the chipping hammer, which is plastic with a few long strands of wire and a chipping hammer head the size of a 22 casing, the gloves were too short with no long cuffs, and the goggles offered no real face protection. I have leather welding gloves with cuffs and a full welding face mask. If you have never welded before, there is lots of splatter of hot pieces of metal, and your body needs to be protected. Don’t skimp on safety. The unit comes with some 3/32 rods. Our first attempt to use the unit did not go well, with lots of issues striking the arc and the rod sticking. I chalked it up to inexperience, did some more research, and decided that potentially the rods were stale, and opted to purchase some name-brand rods at 1/16 of an inch to give this unit a fighting chance to perform its function. We tried to leave a bead on a piece of railroad track cut off that will be turned into a small anvil. While the piece looks rusty, the area we tried to weld and the grounding point were wire brushed to a shine with a circular wire brush and drill. The new rods worked a lot better, and we were able to get and maintain an arc. As a note, when the fan engages, the unit is trying to cool itself and will do so even with the switch turned off. We made that mistake, and after research, learned that the unit should be allowed to finish its cooling cycle before turning it off. Add-on uses: barbecue grill repair, utility trailer repair, and handrail repair. Opinion: Pass on the accessories and get some better quality supplies. The central unit seems serviceable for light-duty use, which is what we had in mind for this unit.
