I drove my v1 voyager focus headset into the ground… using it all day, every day, for a few years. It worked awesome and I appreciated how well it held up and did everything I needed. Lately it went bad in one earpiece, and when I went to repurchase, I saw the v2 was out, bought it… and here are my findings. *** Overall *** If your v1 headset is working fine, or you have a choice between buying the v1 and v2, I recommend the v1. Don’t upgrade if you don’t have to. While the v2 is slightly more stylish, has a few new tricks and marginally better mic/speakers, the differences are not enough to overcome the frustration induced by the significant changes in the controls. *** Pros vs v1 *** • More stylish – There’s no arguing that it looks more refined. I won’t say it’s a HUGE change, but it does look nicer. • The sound is slightly better … a bit clearer and crisper. However the v1 sound was already good and you won’t notice the difference unless you’re an audiophile listening to music all day. • The mic is slightly better, but the mic on the v1 was already good and your coworkers won’t notice the difference unless you take your meetings on the street or in very noisy office environments. • It has an auto-mute on mic-up feature. If you rotate the boom upwards it will automatically mute your conversation, which is pretty slick. • It seems to mute my phone more dependably (one thing that frustrated me with the v1) • There is now a corded mode option. *** Same vs v1 *** • Roughly the same size (although they look bigger) • Connects well to two devices simultaneously • Still has great battery life • Charging stand works just as smoothly • Similar clear voice when something changes • Similar ear pads • Similar feel and pressure *** Cons vs v1 *** • The Stand – Your v1 stand will NOT work with v2. I know they look the same, and they function identically… but they’re not compatible. While the v2 headset is roughly the same size as the v1, the ear mechanism (the plastic part with the switches that sits outside the ear pad) has a larger circumference. It doesn’t extend past the ear pad, so it doesn’t increase the true size of the headset, but because it’s larger the v2 stand has a larger opening to accept it. You won’t be able to slide it into the v1 stand at all (believe me, I tried). • The Lights – I get what they were thinking, but I really don’t want my head lighting up like a Christmas tree while I’m wearing these. Like all devices with 20 different states supported by a single light, you will never remember what all the different combinations means. Solid purple? Pulsing red? Flashing red and blue? Who knows what it’s telling me??? I’d rather there be no light, or a simple light indicating on/off/charging, and that’s it. Now the v1 DID have colors as well, but Poly decided to make them really big and in-your-face with the v2. You cannot see them when you're wearing the headset anyways so what's the point? • The Port – So, when you buy this v2 headset, you have a choice of USB-A or USB-C. I assumed… ahem… that if I picked USB-C, the little port on the side of the headset for charging while I am traveling would accept… you know… a usb-c cord. Nope! So that USB signifier is for THE STAND. That’s right… if you pick USB-A you’ll get a stand with a standard USB cord coming out, and if you pick USB-C you’ll get a stand with a USB-C cord coming out (both permanently affixed). The port on the headset? Micro-USB in both scenarios. I’m sorry but this is a horrible design choice on their part. Micro-USB?!?! It’s 2022… come on Poly! • The Volume – You know that super-cool way you could toggle the earpiece on one side to change the volume? GONE! They replaced it with buttons (UGH). I LOVED THAT TOGGLE!!! • The Power Button – Far and away the worst design change on this headset is the power button. On the v1 model, the power button was this little nub that was really easy to find with your finger, and by applying a little pressure you could tell if it was in the on or off position. It worked great. The v2 model suffers from two poor design choices: 1) the power button is no longer a nub, but a nearly flat switch, and 2) they positioned this switch directly underneath where the boom mid sits when lowered (if on the left side of your face). So… when I try to find the power button with my finger, I both struggle to locate it due to the fact that it doesn’t stick out, and I have to maneuver my finger under where the mic sits. Then, I cannot really tell if it’s in the on or off position… maybe I’m supposed to remove my headset and look for blinking purple lights? This change annoys me EVERY SINGLE DAY. • The Controls –On the v1, the buttons were spread over both the left and right ear mechanisms. Most buttons had a dedicated, or near dedicated, purpose. In the v2, they’ve taken the 4 buttons and two volume directions and smashed them all down into 3 buttons on one side. You have dedicated volume up/down buttons to replace the toggle, and one (1) button to replace all FOUR of the previous controls (phone, play/pause, forward and backward). How do you toggle… by pushing the button multiple times to indicate which thing you want it to do. That’s right… press once for play/pause, twice for forward, three times for back, etc. WHAT?!?! I don’t know what they were possibly thinking. If that isn’t enough, they moved the horrible new power button AND the ANC switch to that same side. So all the controls are now condensed down to one ear, and the other ear has nothing. As a result, you need to have photographic memory to remember what button pushes where on the pad perform at what exact moment will do what you want. It’s a use case in poor product design. Like the light, you’ll never remember how to use it and it will therefore be mostly useless. *** Conclusion *** Does the headset work? Yes! Does it look and sound great? Yes! Will you be happy if you buy these without previously using the v1? Probably. Is it better than the v1… No. The v1 had great sound/mic along with amazing controls, and while a little less stylish it still looked really nice. I have been searching for a headset with microphone having a mute button, so that I can walk and attend meetings, as well as mute and unmute while walking. And I am really impressed with the usage of the Poly Voyager Focus 2 so far for the past 2 weeks. Sounds comes clear to my ears and my audience is able to hear me clearly as well. The mute button works perfect and matches my needs. I wish there was a different method to connect to computer other than the usb (not sure if there is, maybe something I will explore soon). Headset is comfortable in my ears, but keep in mind, I use it only for maximum of 3 hours a day as my work currently needs only that much time on meetings.     • SIGNIFICANT improvement for MIC ANC and voice quality from the Voyager 5200
Pattern: USB-C Bluetooth Adapter Style: Headset + Charge Stand
This review purely focuses on the Active Noise Canceling (ANC) properties of the Microphone! Meaning how you sound to other people. This is a brief initial review. I’ll update after a few months of use. However I think even the quick testing I did will be useful to folks looking. TLDR; the Focus 2 has overall much better mic ANC than the 5200 and your voice sounds much more natural and full bodied to the listener. Now I get that the Voyager 5200 (aka 5220) and this product (Focus 2) are a bit apples to oranges in form factor and typical use case. However, seeing as the Focus 2 is Bluetooth, and can charge via USB micro without the stand I consider them both contenders in the “portable” category. The reason I chose these two to compare is that when it comes to mic ANC for a portable BT headset. The 5200 is constantly the top rated headset and also the one I’ve used for the last 4 years. And the Focus 2 came up as the most impressive headset in terms of mic ANC (outside the Orosound, more on that later). For driving in a car the 5200’s ANC is tuned incredibly. Many people don’t know I’m in a car/truck. I’ve even been doing 60 with the windows down and folks said it’s barely noticeable. That said, the 5200 Mic ANC does not perform so well against types of sounds you make milling about your house and this was annoying my callers and killing me with frustration because i hate sitting still while on a call, so I was desperate for an upgrade. The brief test. I wore both headsets normally and tested a few common scenarios that cause the biggest annoyance for listeners. - crinkling a wrapper. Like that metallic plastic-ish type on protein bars or potato chips. - vitamix blender test (just for fun) - water running / washing dishes in the sink - 600 series roomba running nearby - toilet flush - sirens (I live near a fire station and off a busy intersection) - dogs barking —- The sirens and dogs were simulated by sfx clips played from my computer at full volume. —- Results: - crinkle test — Focus 2 - very faint, barely audible — 5200 - almost no attenuation, very loud, close to same volume as voice - vitamix — Focus 2 - good performance until the loudest levels (high speed) although you could definitely hear the blender and it was medium loud, voice still trumped the blender and speech was intelligible — 5200 - similar performance but the threshold of when it started getting loud was a bit lower speed and when it got to max speed the voice audio become choppy - water running and roomba — both performed the same, water was barely audible, roomba was a very low rumble, as if it was 2 rooms away vs at my feet - toilet flush — focus 2 - not audible at all — 5200 - didn’t test - sirens and dogs — focus 2 - audible but as if very far away, at least 80% quieter than actual and voice was very clear over the noise. If you were talking constantly at the same time as the noise you would barely hear either type of noise. — 5200 - very little attenuation, sirens and dogs were probably only 10% quieter than actual and nearly same volume as voice Voice quality — focus 2 - much more natural sounding and well rounded. Got slightly more robotic when background noise was very very loud (maxed out vitamix) — 5200 - very “headset” sounding and electronic and shallow. Even when noise canceling wasn’t battling anything. - The focus 2 is 2X the price of the 5200, but it’s performance over crinkling, sirens, toilet, and dishwashing to me make it worth the long term trial. I already own the 5200 and will still keep it as it’s excellent for travel and car. But the focus 2 will likely become my primary around the house headset and for long working trips. —- Note on the Orosound Tilde Pro which I saw exclusively available on that headsets website. It looks legit. 3rd party reviews seem to be fine. However even their own video of Tilde vs Focus 2 doesn’t make it seem that much more remarkable if at all. Additionally I didn’t like the idea of the magnetic boom mic that could get knocked off and most importantly in my consideration it’s 4x the 5200 price and 2X the focus 2 price. ... show more

I had to replace Jabra Evolve 75 MS headsets which cost more than this one did but the boom microphone is defective and will only last for a while before the spring breaks if you mite it that way. These are comfortable and immediately the people I talk to everyday were surprised that it was me and I came in Crystal clear compared to my other headset. The charging stand is convenient if I find myself between meetings or the end of the day I just stick it in the charging headset but the headset has no problem lasting all day through about 7 and 1/2 hours meetings a day. I really didn't expect these headsets to be comfortable and good but they are. ... show more
