I bought a $35 rod holder from Dicks just to bring it home & find out it didn’t even come with the part necessary to actually attach it to our boat - SO I decided to try this product out instead & it did not disappoint! MUCH better, & it comes with 2, & everything you need to just attach it & go! Tested this little piece of cheap looking equipment expecting it to break......but it didn't! The guys on the boat weren't laughing anymore after my 3 offshore trip with this little holder. The (unscientific) test: I stuck a heavy duty rod (weighed a ton with the my 6/0 Senator Penn reel) in it and trolled a 15' deep diver at 7.8 knots. It held up!! Got a barracuda (only 8lbs) strike and it held. I was shadowing the rod nervously expecting it to break off the boat. But it held. I placed a 25' deep diver lure on it and tried trolling at 7 knots but the system kept slipping, even after tightening it down with a pair of pliers. Truth is, it was NOT designed for offshore fishing but it held up GREAT. The only real issue is the 'weak' pivoting point (the one that controls the 'left or right' angle that you set the rod). It kept slipping and my VERY HEAVY rod setup kept falling to the side of the boat. My summary: More than adequate for kayak fishing with light to medium action rod and lighter reels (lighter than a 3 lb Senator). INSHORE TROLLING: Good for inshore trolling using a light to medium action set up (again, don't go with a heavy reel). Using surface plugs or 2' - 15' divers should be good up to 10 knots. OFFSHORE: You will be playing Russian roulette! Do NOT take that chance! BUILD QUALITY: looks 'plasticky' but WILL surprisingly hold up to some good pressure. You will need a pliers to tighten up those knobs if you're going trolling. TIGHT LINES!

Ordered these to help hold and secure an extra pole while trolling. Found them to be helpful but not sure how secure they would be if we actually got a fish on the line. They were a little difficult to put on and get tight fitting on the side of the boat. They are mostly plastic so the fear of tightening and then breaking is real. The little nuts that tighten down the telescoping part is metal and plastic and they don't stay tight especially with vibration. Overall, it will serve the purpose but be extremely cautious and I wouldn't leave a favorite pole or reel in it unattended.

The media could not be loaded. Decided to buy a cheap kayak and turn it into a DIY version of my dream one. I am not afraid to drill holes and originally planned to until I saw this. I thought if I didn’t find a place for it to attach, I’d just return it and add a mount track. Well this far exceeded my expectations. It was so easy to install and adjust. I ended up placing it on my new chair (also from Amazon) and it could not be more perfect for reach. I can’t believe I’m building my dream kayak for 1/4 of the price of what it really costs

This is a really bad design. I was pretty excited to use these on a fishing trip, and the product looked sturdy enough. The problem with this design is that you can’t exert enough force on the tighteners to form a solid grip on the side of the boat. I had my rods go overboard a number of times, requiring some very acrobatic saves, before I just stopped using them. Anyone using these would be wise to lash your rods to the boat. Really disappointing. A little more planning in the design could have made these very useful.
