  • Commercial Quality
You really can't beat these . They are built tuff and solid . They look nice as well . You can't go wrong on these as they are definitely worth the money . You can sit on the 3 legs or hang from a tree . Either way , you won't regret these .

  • Functional waterer
Bought this as a second water source for our coop mainly to have a three gallon capacity. Same brand as our one gallon unit, delivers water somewhat sparingly.

  • Large size
Perfect size to replace the small gallon size I was using. Use in grow out pen for chicks. Goes two days instead of having to fill every day. Of course depend on size of birds, how many and how hot of day, so check on acordingly. Make sure you can see the three white slots of lid are under the spots on base securely before turning it right side up. ... show more

  • Not the easiest to use
This style was not the easiest to use.

  • Got as a replacement
We had a similar water bucket that was starting to get sun baked, so I got this as a replacement. Just as easy to use and clean and provides plenty of water for the week for the few hens we have. This one is actually a little sturdier than the last one as well. I'm sure it will eventually get baked in the Arizona sun, but that's too be expected round these parts. So overall we're happy with this one. ... show more

  • Good for the birds!
Due to the severe drought in Texas, which has utterly destroyed my stock tank, I became concerned for the various birds on my property. Birds need water. This Little Giant 3 gallon poultry waterer is very good. The birds like it. It consists of two pieces: the top dome, and the red base. It is a bit awkward to fill, hence 'four stars' instead of five. You must turn the white dome upside down (it has four little plastic uprights, which help keep it upright while upside down), and fill it with water. Then, you attach the red base. You must have the slots lined up correctly, and even then it does not inspire confidence. On the first try the red base came off as I turned it upright, splashing water all over my feet. The next attempt worked, although some water came out. Again, the four slots that attach the base to the dome work, but barely, with no room for error. After all, three gallons of water weighs, I guess, around 18 pounds? However, once I had the Little Giant back upright, with the base firmly attached, I used the metal handle to move the waterer to my location. I set it on a small metal base I picked up at the Dollar Store, so it would not sit directly on the ground. I would not hang it up (again, due to the weight of the water). Anyway, after the birdbath has dried up, and my smaller waterer's have dried up, this Little Giant keeps water available while I am away from our weekend house for five days. Water does not seem to evaporate as quickly as it does in other bird-water devices. If the based attached a bit better to the dome, I would give it five stars. Note: I do not have 'poultry' so I have no opinion about its usefulness for chickens, ducks, etc. The space, where the water is available, does seem, to my inexperienced eyes, to be big enough for chickens to drink. ... show more

  • Usually works ok; does take a bit of getting used to
People seem to have a love or hate relationship with this waterer. It does take a time or two to get used to it. As others have noted, open = water flows, closed = water flows but not very well (in my experience--see below). You want it open for it to work. The fit between the top and base is fairly loose, which is ok to a point. I haven't had it come apart while full yet, but it does seem that it could happen. As with any vacuum waterer, if it is not level it's possible water will spill over one side of the reservoir and drain fairly quickly. If full, this is obviously fairly heavy and it can be challenging to fit the base on, invert it, then carry it without irrigating yourself. I don't find it very easy to flip from closed to open once it is turned upright, so I leave it open all the time. It usually throws a bit of water when inverting, but then can be carried by the top handle like any vacuum waterer. It seems that it needs to be filled to build a vacuum--filling it halfway and inverting it hasn't worked well. A caution is that about 10% of the time it drains overnight for no apparent reason--it's fairly level and not flowing over the side, but it still ends up empty way before it should. So it bears careful monitoring. ... show more

  • Requires Patience!
This waterer was a pain in the rear the first few (20 would be a closer guess) times I tried to use it! It is pretty large and somewhat heavy when full which makes it difficult to get the tabs lined up right to lock. I can't begin to tell you how many times I spilled all the water, or had it to all leak out before I got it to the chickens, only to give up and have my husband to do it for me. I had it placed on a board, not hanging up, at first and I was constantly going outside to make sure my chickens had water because it would all run out or not at all. After a LOT of practice, I have figured this bad boy out! It has to be hanging from a hook (I used Blue Hawk Metal Large Bike Hook for $1.98 from Lowes for mine on the side of a post so it would be low enough w/o touching the ground) for the water to come out right. The tabs have to be lined up just right...all of them. it is easy to clean except for around the tabs where the top connect to the bottom. It is nice to go out of town for a few days knowing my chickens have plenty of water especially during hot days. I think if I were to purchase this type of waterer again, I would go with a smaller one so it is easy for me to handle. ... show more
