I am an experienced leatherworker, and I have just about everything I need already. However, I discovered some basic tools missing after a family member "borrowed" some things but failed to return them. I noticed this kit contains quite a few items I already have, but it contains two of the items I need to replace. For the price, you simply can't beat it. I haven't used the thread yet, but I did open the package to check the quality of it. I am quite impressed with the amount of tools, and the apparent quality compared to the price. I may have to alter my evaluation after using the items, but I don't expect a super high level of usability in a starter kit this affordable. I am giving it 5 stars because it is what it claims to be, a very good buy for what it is intended for. It is a good starter kit for stitching and sewing leather and other challenging materials, like canvas and denim. It comes in a sturdy, zipper case, which is very handy for sewing supplies. I already have one another zippered case for sewing supplies, including thread, and have no problem with keeping more than one around. Thread can get sloppy, and any way to keep tools and supplies organized is welcome. I would definitely recommend. ... show more

It's well worth the cost. Especially if you are dipping your toes into leatherworking. Yes, you will probably replace tools if you stick with leatherworking over time for much higher quality expensive tools. However, it would cost a small fortune to buy the highest quality tools included in this set. Just for example, one tool from C.S. Osborne equals the cost of this entire set. The thread is too lightly waxed but better than other non waxed threads I have seen in cheap sets. The hole punches are surprisingly good quality considering the cost. If you're a beginner you won't even know what half of the tools are used for but that's half the fun. You get what you need and more. I'm Including a pic of what I made with this set (other than dremmel cutting wheel to cut the acrylic red lenses and a drill to drill the holes in it. I also preferred a utility razor blade knife over the X-Acto style knife that comes with the set to cut the leather.). ... show more

It's a great beginners kit. You will quickly realize what you need and don't need. But it's nice that you have all there. It's something to start with and you'll soon be upgrading to something better.

    • Good kit but needs stronger metals on the tools and needles
I think this is a great little kit definitely good for the value but a few of the tools are definitely lacking in strength i bent both of the awls while trying to repair my leather shoes almost snapped the needle while trying to thread the sole of the shoe definitely nerve-racking considering I didn't want that needle going through one of my fingers even while using the thimble i have not tested out the other tools yet but I will say that the thread has quite the tensile strength and I like that the symbol could be bent to size but wished it was rounded when using digs into skin ... show more
