Description

A capacitor is a passive (a component that consumes but does not produce energy) two terminal electrical components. In building a sound system for your car, you would want to use a capacitor for a couple of different reasons. The main reason a capacitor is always recommended, is for power reserve. It stores energy and releases it very quickly to the amplifier(s). How does this help? Music is dynamic, no matter what type you listen to. The dynamics in musical content can vary from soft voices, and very quickly transition to thundering bass notes. These moments are where the benefit of having a capacitor is heard. The amplifier requires constant & steady power to function efficiently and power the speakers. A capacitor will keep the power going to the amplifier consistent and stabilized, which means a better sounding system. IMPORTANT: The remote output of the head unit is connected to the remote turn on of the capacitor. The capacitor will not function if the remote wire is not connected to your head unit.

I like this cap. I like the look of it, too. It's a perfect fit for my application. It's packaged pretty well too. The one thing I don't care much about, but isn't about the product itself really, is the support. Yes, you can get what seems pretty good support, but it's through BOSS AUDIO. Planet Audio on all their products have sub-contracted out the support; which I am alright with that...but it's just something you wont really know until you buy something and have a question. One other tid-bit... If you have never used a cap, like me, MAKE sure you consult the instructions. They did provide them, but before I had really went through them or even taken this from the plastic casing to which it was tied down, I was curious how to charge it correctly. The way it's explained on this page, and shown in the picture is incorrect... they told me, and later when I read the instructions, you must have your (-) wire connected and grounded, and ONLY have your remote wire from the deck connected to the cap and nothing else... The explanation on here is showing only the (+) lead and inbetween the posy wire and they posy terminal of course is the resistor... this is incorrect according to the Tech Support/Instruction manual. As far as function, I've not had the chance to get it rolling. I have a few other components I'm waiting on, and when I get them all together and check everything out, I will revisit this review and post an update. Just becareful.. as always, if it has instructions, read them. Oh yea.. The CAP shown in this picture, is NOT the one you will get; IT looks identical to this one, with one exception; instead of two terminals on each side, the 10F Cap will have only one terminal on each side. 11/6/23 Quality is good, the size is nice, Bright and flashy l have one of their amps so definitely goes well with it as far as lighting. 10 Frag? I'm going with nah but close and if sized properly. Sound quality I did end up with a little feed back after the install and I'm push it to what I believe to be it's limits but i haven't gone after everything with my meter yet but it's small and I'm pretty confident that it's something else.If it turns out to be I will come back and update. ... show more

It handles power well. This item will not stop your lights from dimming. What it does is store power in it so the amp don’t take it straight from the battery. If you want the dimming to stop. You have to upgrade your alternator to battery wire a ground to chassis and engine to chassis only way to make it stop. I have a what looks to be a 10 gauge wire from my alternator to battery and that’s factory. That’s why you need to upgrade the wiring super easy ... show more

This was way easier to install and setup than I expected. The only real task is readying the wires and connectors. As you can see from the photo I mounted mine on the front of my speaker box. I did this so the cool blue lighting on this device can be visible. The charging process took 20 seconds and was cake. Ive been running this capacitor for 2 months now and its perfect. I was not sure weather to purchase a cap for my system. I read a lot online that they did nothing while many others said they did. I am also slightly tone deaf so I wasn't sure if I could tell even if it did make a difference. I just installed some very hi end/hi powered speakers (Hertz Millie) with a nice JL Audio 12" sub and a very nice Hertz 5 channel amp (D-class). I could have used about 30% more amp to drive this system. It still sounded AWESOME though (w/o the cap). For $60 I said WTH. Did some research and this one I liked bc of the reviews and the low profile for my tight spaces in my Tacoma. I had been listening to the system w/o the cap for several weeks so I what its range was. I added the cap and WOWSER!! BIG difference. Mostly in my mid bass speakers is where I heard(felt) the big difference. I think even the hi notes sounded clearer (but not sure about those bc I am literally semi tone deaf). It definitely made a difference in the slightly under powered system that I have. They do work for sure though. ... show more
