  • Great player. Read below for "why"
Style: New
My player in my 2000 Toyota 4Runner bit the dust so I needed a replacement. Here's what I wanted.... 1. Good sound. I had realistic expectations that it wasnt going to sound like the ultimate Best Buy display model, but I wanted it to have a nice, thick, full-bodied sound. 2. Easy to use. 3. Easy to install. 4. High quality both in materials and appearance. And here's what I got with the Pioneer DEH-150MP + Sounds great. Much better than the factory system. If you push the system a bit, the base fades out and the mids and highs take over, but that's to be expected without a separate woofer. + Easy to use. There are all kinds of options and adjustments that are easy and MOSTLY intuitive. It even has a magnifying glass icon that allows you to scroll through the tracks on cds (names included) without advancing the disk until you press ok. Neat feature. However, my biggest gripe is WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE OFF BUTTON??? You will most definitely have to refer to the manual to discover how to turn it off. Not a big deal but there is nothing that indicates how to turn it off on the actual display. Kind of odd. Overall though, easy enough to use. The remote is a nice touch although I feel lazy using one when I am within arms reach of the system. + Easy to install. Do some research via some forums and such and you'll have this thing installed in no time. Like one reviewer mentioned though, the system is a little bit deeper than most so make sure you have adequate clearance. I had no issue. + High quality. I can't speak for the longevity of the device as I have only had it for about 2 weeks, but it seems durable enough. The lumination is very handsome and definitely has the look of a much more expensive system. However, the faceplate detaches (good thing) but it did not come with a case and the glossy surface of the reciever face will most likely scratch very easily (bad thing). FINAL NOTES: Overall a fantastic receiver especially for the price. Easy to install and use, but the lack of a designation on the off button is, well, stupid. Also, when switching into some of the modes, it takes just a second to register with the system. Not a defect (the reciever's lights to a sort of wipe across the screen) but some adjustments will need to be done while pulled over onto the side of the road as opposed to driving. I would buy it again and definintely recommend it. ... show more

  • A great stereo for the price
Style: New
I bought this as a replacement for my stock Ford audiophile car stereo. It produces better sound than the original and allows for much more customization, especially of the subwoofer. There are so many options for tweaking the sound, that it is almost too much for me. I'm used to just adjusting EQ settings. But having too many options is hardly a complaint. I love having the auxillary input option which was lacking on the original stereo. It seems like a little thing, but I also like that Pioneer included the ability to pause the CD during playback, instead of having to power the stereo off when I need it quiet for a minute. My complaints are minor and involve the display. Often the display is a little difficult to read in bright sunlight. And I wish that more thought went into how the display options were set up. For instance, when in "Clock" mode during radio playback, it shows you the time and which band (FM 1, FM 2, etc.) you are in instead of the actual staion you are tuned into. It's a minor annoyance, but still bugs me a little. Besides, I had to find something to complain about... I would absolutely recommend this product. If value is calculated by the quality you get for the price paid, this is an excellent value. UPDATE: The unit started doing some funky things like going completely dark but remaining powered on. I couldn't shut it off, lower the volume or anything. It reset after turning off the car and restarting it. And there were issues with the AUX port. Often the sound would only come in on the left side speakers. I called Pioneer to get it replaced under warranty. I was told that because Amazon was not an authorized retailer, my warranty was void...thanks Pioneer. I called Amazon, explained my problem and was told a replacement would be shipped right out. I got the new one in two days and reinstalled it. The reinstall took two minutes because I only had to slide the old one out of the existing bracket and click the new one in. It's been a week, and so far so good. It's no big deal. I got a defective product, and Amazon was right there to make it right...and FAST! ... show more

  • Great product, no bluetooth/USB, but works well as intended!
Style: New
INTRODUCTION: The first time that I purchased this stereo set was in December. I installed it, and it the did not turn on. I did not know if that was the result of an incorrect installation or a bad product, but I was able to return it and received a full refund for the product. The second one that I consequently purchased worked great and is not successfully installed in my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am and looks great because the red is close to the red on the instrument cluster. That was the main reason that I purchased this. IT IS REQUIRED TO PURCHASE ADAPTORS FOR THIS TO WORK IN YOUR VEHICLE. It was difficult to find that adapors that I needed for this product, but I eventually found them on EBay after purchasing a few that did not work. ITEMS TO PURCHASE ADDITIONALLY: -A wiring harness specific to your car, preferably with a chime extension (chimes when lights are on, door open, key in ingition, etc) -An antenna adaptor -electrical tape -wire butt connectors (recommended, not required) -An additional 1 foot ground wire -Vehicle-specific single-din sleve for radio to rest in. INSTALLATION: disclaimer - if you damage anything or hurt yourself or something of value while installing this product, I am not responsible for your mistake. 1. Pop your hood and disconnect the positive battery cable, secure in a position with electrical tape so that it does not touch anything, including the hood. 2. Remove the trim around your infotainment system. (flathead screwdriver generally works) Be careful to pry carefully to not damage anything. 3. Once the trim is off, remove screws holding the old infotaiment system in and pull out carefully. (be careful, it still is connected with wires to the vehicle). 4. Disconnect the wiring harness and secure in a safe place. 5. Disconnect the radio antenna and secure in a safe place. 6. Take your vehicle-specific wiring harness adaptor and work on splcing wires using the butt-end connectors with the wires on the adaptor that comes with the Pioneer radio. (THEY ARE COLOR CODED AND STRIPPED, COLORS AND STRIPS NEED TO MATCH) 7. Once all wires are connected that have connections (if some do not, wrap the end of them with electrical tape), zip-tie the wires together, leaving the ground wire out. 8. Look at your sleeve and make sure that it will fit, if not adapt it in the recommended way in the directions 9. slip the Pioneer into the sleeve and use a screw-driver to pry the tabs up to secure it 10. Find a good spot behind the radio to insert a screw into the metal of the vehicle. 11. Pre-drill a hole, and insert a screw. 12. Hook up the grounding wire to the screw (may need an extension). 13. Connect the two wiring harness' together and connect the radio antenna adaptor to the radio. 14. Slide the sleeve-encased Pioneer DEH-150MP into the single-din slot, and secure with the necessary screws. 15. Reconnect your battery and start your engine to test the radio, if it does not turn on, double check all connections (after re-unattaching battery) 16. If successful, put your trim back in place the way that it is supposed to be. CONS: -The installation takes time and there are many steps -The directions are not as clear as they could be -This does not retain the chimes (when you open door, leave lights on, etc), a chime extension is recommended, but not required - Bluetooth functionality would be nice - A USB connection would be nice - When you want to pause a song, there is a TINY button on the far right, that really is a number, it would make more sence to make the volume knob the pause/play like most cars. - If you get into settings accidentially when trying to pause it (by pushing the volume knob), it can be annoying because it is hard to get out of it. -Only 1 CD at a time, It is not a multiple CD changer. PROS: -The value for the product is pretty good -The return service is great -It looks great with the red color, especially in Pontiac Grand Am -CD and Aux both work great -It has a lot of volume and is still clear at high volume -It has great sound quality -Build quality is great, nice tight fit. -Auto shut off at ~7 minutes is a nice feature CONCLUSION: If you need a relatively affordable radio that works well and has great sound quality, this is the one to get. However, if you like to use bluetooth, or a USB player, you are out of luck, with only Aux in and a single CD player. However, I recommend this product if you do not need those two things. If I have been informative or helpful in your purchasing decision, please give me a "thumbs up" so that I can continue to produce quality reviews. Thank you and have a great day! ... show more

  • Nice pioneer!
Style: New
Fits 1997 Tacoma! Got this to replace the "premium audio" stock tape deck that was in there previously. So far I like the sound coming out of it. It is definitely an improvement over the tape deck just by listening to it for a few days. The equalizer and presets are nice, and the radio, CD, and the aux input sounds clear as crystal. Pretty easy to program, but still getting used to the buttons. The designated sub output and blue "remote" wire is a handy feature for if I ever need to use it. I have had this unit for several weeks now and have listened to several hours of audio combined. This unit seems to be in the range of 30% or so louder than the 20 y/o stock head unit before the amp will start to clip (I put aftermarket JBL’s in the door btw, so it’s not the speakers). If you're a basshead, don't necessarily expect a massive increase in output, because 15 watts max going to each speaker is probably more than what your stock head unit had, but is not a whole lot if you think about it. If you want bass, you might need to consider adding a sub. I am very happy with this unit. It has great functionality and sound clarity. I recently added a Pioneer shallow-mount 10” to the back seat. The amp plugged right in to the sub output, as well as the “remote wire” so the amp will cut off when the head unit does. I put a switch in the middle of that remote wire so I can turn the sub off when I want to. I have the head unit EQ’d to send the vocals/mids to the door speakers, and the sub handles the bass. Very nice, balanced sound in the truck now. ... show more

  • Outstanding for the price!!!
Style: New
I own a 1989 Mini (yep, the classic ones). I bought this because for under $60, I couldn't pass up the deal considering it has everything I wanted on it. So, let's start from the beginning. I fried the old head unit that was in the car because it was very old and I installed a new pair of 6x9 speakers (the car only has 2 speakers...). I did not need a lot of power since the car is so small. I have been looking for a bit to find a head unit that has AM/FM radio, CD player and (specifically) an AUX jack. I found this and decided to take a chance. The install was extremely easy. The harness that Pioneer uses has always been easy to install and this is no different. The slide-out sleeve worked perfectly in the car and with some quick soldering and heat shrinking, I had it done in about 10 minutes. The setup process was simple. The menu system is controled using the knob and press-click.It is very straight forward. All of the front panel controls are simple and effective. The stock equalizer settings are actually done pretty well. I've used a lot of stereos that the internal equalizer is junk, but this is definately above standard. After the stereo was set up, I set to testing it out... and test it out I did. I pushed thru everything from country music to techno. Wired up to a pair of Pioneer 6x9 speakers makes it sound like I have a sub in that little car. I only have one regret. I wanted to hard-wire an aux port in the car. This stereo has the AUX on the face plate. It can make it a bit of a pain with a coord wrapping around the shifter, but it is such a minor problem that I won't even take a star off for it. ... show more

  • Exactly What I Wanted - Good Stuff
Style: New
This is an awesome unit for the price! Exactly what I was looking for in my truck. It doesn't have all the top of the line features (Bluetooth, USB) but i wasn't looking to have that (I installed a complete system in my Jeep Wrangler a few years back - alpine head unit, 4 Polk Momos, custom built sub box with 2 10"s that down fire, 400 watt amp to the subs bridged of corse, 600 watt amp to the speakers). It does come with a remote control which is nice for back seat passengers or tailgates at a Georgia football game. Oh and the backlighting is red not pink like some of the pictures lead you to believe. So no worries there. I switched from an Alpine so the UI took some getting used to. The install was EASY and fit perfect. My dash is a front mount so I took the sleeve that came with the unit off and dropped it in to the existing harness, click click, screw screw and done. I also had to remove the faceplate trim which just snaps off and back on if you were wondering. The sound quality is excellent and is very powerful. The unit gives you tons of EQ and sound adjustment options which include fader, balance, treble, bass, HPF, SPF, EQ, Sub lvls, ect. If your looking to upgrade from a factory radio and you don't want to break the bank or go Too Fast Too Furious on your vehicle like I did on my Jeep then this is the unit for you. ... show more

  • A Great Stereo for a Great Price
Style: New
I purchased this after viewing the Pioneer DEH-1300 Pioneer DEH-1300MP CD Receiver with MP3/WMA Playback and Remote Control, which had the best rating of any cheaper stereo that I could find. Amazon recommended the newer DEH-150MP, so after a careful decision, I bought this one. The stereo front of the stereo looks great. The display is easy to read and the control lighting looks good. At first I was worried that the color would change quickly and obnoxiously like I had seen in other models, but this stereo stays a solid red. Something I really like is that the AUX in is back lit, making use in the dark much easier. Installation was kind of a pain, but so is installing any car stereo. Placing this into my 1998 Dodge Dakota was relatively easy. I did need to buy a mounting kit (which was pretty much just a $15 piece of plastic from WalMart), so don't think that sixty bucks is going to be your final price. The control layout works well, however, buttons 1-6 and the tracking controls are small and can be hard to find while driving. ...I almost forgot that the stereo comes with a remote control. I can't see what the point of it is, except maybe to change the song from the back seat. It works, but I have thrown it in the console and forgotten about it. Overall, this an inexpensive stereo that covers the basics almost flawlessly. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive stereo to play music in the car. I have an hour and a half drive to work, and this stereo does everything that I want it to: play my music without problems for the entire trip. It is doing a great job. ... show more

  • Short-Lived Disappointment: Pioneer Car Stereo Fails After 7 Months
Style: New
I was initially thrilled to upgrade my car audio system with the Pioneer Car Stereo, but my excitement quickly turned to frustration when the unit unexpectedly failed after just 7 months of use. At first, everything seemed perfect. The installation process was straightforward, and I was immediately impressed by the sleek design and promising features of the stereo. The sound quality was decent, no complains there. However, my enthusiasm was short-lived. After only a few months, the stereo began exhibiting erratic behavior. It would randomly freeze or shut off while in use, leaving me without music during my drives. Despite troubleshooting and trying various fixes, the problems persisted and eventually worsened to the point where the stereo ceased to function altogether. The disappointment of investing in a premium product like the Pioneer Car Stereo, only to have it fail in such a short amount of time, is incredibly disheartening. Not only did I waste money on the initial purchase, but now I am faced with the inconvenience and expense of having to replace it much sooner than expected. As of now, I have not reached out to Pioneer's customer support, as I wanted to share my experience before exploring potential solutions. However, based on the premature failure of the stereo itself, I am skeptical about the level of assistance I can expect from their support team. In conclusion, while the Pioneer Car Stereo may offer appealing features and aesthetics, its lack of reliability and durability make it a poor investment. I would caution others against purchasing this product until Pioneer addresses these glaring issues. ... show more
