The media could not be loaded. I am a huge fan of Philip Hue lightbulbs. I have more than 20 bulbs inside my home and another 20+ of the Hue outdoor bulbs to light up my backyard. What I like about these bulbs is the seemingly endless color combinations and routines that can be created to suit your needs, your moods, your whims ... anything you can think of with lighting these bulbs can do. I have attached a video to this review so you can see some of the spectrum of color these bulbs are capable of producing. The Philip Hue app for the iPhone and iPad makes changing colors and brightness as easy as touching a button. I filmed my video with my iPhone in one hand while I used my other hand to change the colors and brightness in the Philips Hue app on my iPad. It is that simple. Let's begin with connecting these bulbs to your wifi. It is quick and easy. I have connected over 40 Hue bulbs to my hub. I have never had an issue connecting to wifi. Once these bulbs are connected to wifi ... they stay connected to wifi. I have had power outages which caused wifi to reboot. No problem. The bulbs reconnect automatically. The app has several color "scenes" to choose from ... or simply use the color palette to create your own color combinations. There are routines that can be set for the lights to come on at pre-set times ... at random times ... to change color ... to shut off ... to dim or brighten. If you can imagine it ... you can use the app to set the routine. These bulbs are also Alexa compatible ... which provides even greater functionality. Want to try visual effects like strobing lights ... simulated fireworks ... a rainstorm ... a moon-lit sky ... just download one of the many third party apps available and prepare to be amazed at what these lights can do. These lightbulbs work wonders on my mental well-being. I find that the greens and soft blues help me relax in the evenings. The cool white tones energize me during the weekday. The warm yellow tones help me wake to a new day. Having used the bulbs for years now I am a believer that colors can positively impact your mood and your mental well-being. I have tried other LED color-changing bulbs (you can read my review of the Sengled bulbs to learn more). There is simply no equal to the Philips Hue lightbulb. It offers countless possibilities and performs flawlessly. I would not buy any other brand of smart bulb. I give a most enthusiastic recommendation for the Philips Hue lightbulb.     • Good starter kit - HONEST REVIEW
Style: 4- Bulb Starter Kit
Time for the good and the bad: THE GOOD - Super easy to "install", easy to integrate to Home Kit and just overall easy to use. - The color options are fun and having access to a couple 3rd party apps makes some cool atmospheres. - These light bulbs bring your home and entertainment to a new level. THE BAD: - You need to leave the light switch on for these to work, and you lose the ability to control the lights via the normal switch - Life on these isn't that great (about 3-5 months) which gets expensive after a while! I put these light bulbs in four locations - the first was in some overhead kitchen lighting, second in my basement, third in a lamp I have in my family room, and fourth in my bedroom's overhead lighting. Here's what I've learned from having it in so many different locations: - The overhead kitchen lighting works fine because if I ever am walking around without my phone to turn on the lights, I have some other kitchen lights I can turn on in the meantime. My roommate also has an apple watch and has no issues with this -Basement light also is great because the only way to turn on my basement light is to walk downstairs in the dark, and pull on the string attached to the socket on the other side of the room. Having the smart bulbs in this light is amazing because I don't have to turn on my phone's flashlight anymore when I go through my basement at night - Now for the bad - I absolutely hated having these light bulbs in my bedroom overhead light. Because you have to leave the switch on for these to work, there's no way to turn on the light without voice control or your phone on you. So anytime I ran upstairs to grab something from my room quickly without my phone, I had to stumble around in the dark because I had no way to turn on the lights. I realize this is a minor issue, but believe me it gets annoying after a while. I finally moved those lights to a different place where they were more useful and replaced my bedroom lights with a Lutron Caseta switch, which allows you to use normal light bulbs and have a usable switch. SUGGESTIONS: - Read the serial number before placing the light bulb! It'll save you the facepalm and having to redo it. - Be patient with the WIFI as sometimes it takes a while to communicate with the bulb if you have spotty service - If you're new to smart home technology, you have to have a 2.4 GHz connection for a lot of these items to work. - Best use is for lamps or lights where reaching the switch would normally be difficult - if you enjoy also being able to use the wall switch, I highly recommend the Caseta switches. Also, the Caseta switches allow you to use normal light bulbs, which is MUCH cheaper in the long run. Overall I've enjoyed bringing my century home in to the new era, and these light bulbs have been fun. If you don't care about wall switch access, hands down pick up a set of these. If you want something more cost effective in the long run and more overall control, go get a smart switch rather than a smart bulb. ... show more
