  • Great bulbs but there is a constant humming
Color: Full Color Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
I like this smart bulb overall and it does what I expected in terms of brightness and color options. Setup was fairly straightforward and it connects well to my system without much hassle. The colors are vibrant and it’s nice being able to adjust everything from my phone depending on the mood. That said there is one issue that seems pretty common and I’ve experienced it too which is a constant humming sound when the bulb is on. It’s not extremely loud but it is noticeable especially in a quiet room and can get a bit distracting over time. Aside from that the performance and features are solid for the price point so I still think it’s a decent option. Just be aware of the noise if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing. ... show more

  • One stopped working with wifi after a month
Color: Soft White Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
Update-after one month, one of these bulbs turned on out of the blue and now will not work with Alexa or the app. I tried removing it from the app and re-pairing, but it will not enter pairing mode. And when it’s turned on by the lamp-switch, it quickly gets very hot. So my initial positive review has changed. So far these were easy to set up and they work well. They require an app, but after setting them up in the Sylvania app you can pair them to the Alexa app seamlessly. ... show more

  • Cheap way to add smart bulbs to your home
Color: Full Color Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
I've been slowly getting into the smart home for awhile now. I wanted Philips Hue but we all know how expensive those bulbs are. I was browsing bulbs and saw theses bulbs on sale so I decided to order some along with some Treatlife color smart bulbs which are normally around the same price (both bulbs are generally $35 regular price at the time of this review). One thing to immediately note about these bulbs, they have a note on the box and in the instructions saying they are not for use in fully enclosed fixtures so keep that in mind. When I received the bulbs I was impressed with how much they looked like regular bulbs once installed in a fixture. I've had CFL bulbs in all of my fixtures for years so it was nice to see the more traditional look in my fixtures again. Setup was easy. As soon as I applied power the bulbs started flashing. I downloaded the Sylvania Smart+ app, signed up for an account and connected to the wifi network I was installing the bulbs on. The app found the bulbs and added them one by one. The whole process took around 15 mins. Subsequent pairing were way shorter since I didn't have to sign up for an account. I noticed these bulbs mentioned CRI rating so I decided to compare them against another popular cheap smart bulb manufacturer, Treatlife. These bulbs are bright when using regular white light. I couldn't really tell a difference between these and the Treatlife as they both were bright and had tunable whites. The Sylvania bulbs showed their oomph once I started testing colors. The colors were brighter and more vibrant than the Treatlife bulbs. The difference was really noticeable so if you're looking for bulbs that are pretty bright when displaying colors then I would go with these bulbs. Connecting with Amazon and Google was a simple process as well. Just search for Sylvania in the respective apps and it should allow you to login and connect to the Sylvania account you created. Once you do that you'll be able to control the lights via Alexa or Google Home. I was so impressed I ordered 8 more bulbs. But I admittedly came across the problem a few reviewers mentioned. One of the bulbs would always flicker and flash. Initially it started when displaying blue or white. Yellow, red and green displayed fine but over time the problem got worst and worst. The bulb flickered and flashed anytime it was on no matter the color. I ended up putting that bulb in a rarely used lamp just to keep it out of the way. But that's the only bulb I've had problems with out of the 12 I received. Lastly for all my techies, unfortunately this bulb does not interact with the Smart Life or Tuya Smart app. You HAVE to use the Sylvania app. The bulbs use a Tuya chipset but the pairing process always times out on the "cloud" step. The app detects the bulb but can never connect it to the cloud. So if you use Home Assistant, Homebridge etc for local control you will not be able to control these bulbs locally via 3rd party apps. There aren't even any integrations or add ons available for these bulbs in those platforms. So if you're trying to get everything into one app unfortunately these bulbs will not allow you to do that unless you use the Alexa app or the Google home app. Any other 3rd party app integration is non existent. That could change in the future but at the moment you're out of luck. Nonetheless I have enjoyed these bulbs. Easy setup, bright colors, bright regular light and pretty reliable. They are also pretty cheap as most full color smart bulbs cost a little more. I can't comment on reliability yet as I've only had these bulbs for a couple of months now but they are all still working with the exception of the one bulb that flickers/flashes. I do notice that a couple of bulbs occasionally stop responding but a quick power cycle fixes that problem. All in all I recommend these bulbs if you're looking for a cheap way to add some smart bulbs to your home, especially if you want bright colors without paying $40+ per bulb. If you're a techie that wants to integrate these bulbs into a third party smart platform other than Amazon or Google then I would look elsewhere. ... show more

  • Perfect and easy. Solved several problems all at once.
Color: Full Color Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
I have seen a few reviews saying people couldn't use these, but they are definitely not following instructions. I do not and will never install a smart speaker (alexa or the google one or any such listening device in my home, including smart TVs.) You do NOT need these invasive devices to use these awesome bulbs. I simply downloaded the Sylvania Wifi app, switched my router from 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz (I'm using an older model router that won't do both at once) and installed all 4 bulbs without difficulty. For those who are having trouble this is probably the issue. You have to figure out how to log into your router's settings and put it on 2.4Ghz. If you can't remember your password, there's probably a reset procedure where you can remove any password at all and put one in. Do an Internet search for your device's name or model # and the words "can't find router password." The one PITA is that sometimes I need 5Ghz, like for a zoom class. When that happens I'll have to temporarily either do without my bulbs or turn them on and leave them on until I can go back into my router's settings and switch back. (Heads-up - not sure if this will work but will edit this review if not. I think it will.) You do not need to give others access to the app for them to use them. They can turn them on and off from the wall switch. Of course if they turn the switch off you need to turn it on again to adjust or control them from the app. I renamed each of them to reflect their locations in my home, set each with the brightness and color I wanted, and there they stay. To repeat; you can turn them on and off with the wall switch or the app. If you turn the wall switch off, you must turn it back on to control its bulb with the app. You don't have to enter a room to turn these bulbs on! You can turn them on remotely, and I LOVE that. My mid-level landing hallway switch is hard to reach. If I'm coming up or down it can be very dark. Now I can just turn the bulb on with the app and I can see where I'm going. Same in my upstairs studio – I have to go up to turn lights on and often have my hands and arms full, so I just turn the bulb on and I can see where I'm going. I put this one into a floor torchère-style lamp, in the little side reading lamp, and it works just fine. This one took about 5 tries to install, but I just kept doing it and the last try "took." And now it's installed and all good. I have one light in my bedroom that I like to have on, but sometimes don't want to get out of bed to turn off. No problem, now. I do it from the app and stay warm, toasty and sleepy. This one is a clip lamp in just the right place, that's plugged into an extension cord. No issues there either. Installed on the first try. For the bathroom I have three hi-hats over my sink. The main light in the ceiling is bright enough to take x-rays by, so I rarely use it. I've just been putting one 40-watt bulb in the middle socket over the sink and leaving the others empty. Now I can fill the ones on either side, and either have just the one on if it's late and I don't want to get all woken up by a bright light, or turn the other two up full brightness and adjust the temperature for optimal makeup application. I can't answer questions about how long they last because I just put them in this afternoon, but if there are problems I –will– come back right away and let everyone know. ... show more

  • Watch out Hue, Sylvania is coming for you.... Watch out Hue, Sylvania is coming for you....
Color: Full Color Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
Philip's Hue lighting products have carved out a top-end niche as providers of programmable LED lighting. Others, like LIFX and Sengled have tried to muscle in on Hue's perch, LIFX with wifi connectivity not requiring a hub and bright lights, Sengled by going the Hue route with hub and repeater lights, but at about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of equivalent Hue bulbs. So, owning bulbs from all three of the main programmable-LED manufacturers, I was intrigued to try these Sylvania programmable LED bulbs. I don't know if Sylvania, recently spun off from GE, intends to go into this market in a big way. But these bulbs should make a splash--and make the established competitors wary. Sylvania has been around a long time and is known as a quality manufacturer of incandescent and flourescent home bulbs as well as a variety of commercial lighting products. This is their first serious foray into programmable home LED lighting, as far as I'm aware, and I hope they fill out their portfolio because these bulbs are seriously cheap and excellent. I'm not a techie. I don't measure lumens. I only eyeball the lights. But I'm discriminating and this is what I've found. The Good: 1. Cost. Twenty-eight dollars for four bulbs. Not just four while LEDs, but four fully-programmable, full-color 60-watt equivalent bulbs. That's just $7 each! 2. The light. Strong, bright in both white and colors. 3. Ease of setup. Exceptionally easy installation and setup. I had none of the problems others complain about here with my 2.4GHz and 5GHz (which share a unified SSID) confusing the bulbs. In fact, I’ve had more issues with Hue and Sengled installations than with these bulbs. I’m not denying the problems others say they’ve experienced, but I’ve learned that with IOT installations, patience and a willingness to experiment is often necessary, even with the top products in the category. 4. App. Good basic app. 5. Worked seamlessly with my Google Home once the Syvlania account was established. The Bad: Nothing really. OK, I would like to be able to schedule by sunup and sundown, and the app doesn't appear to do that, but neither do many others. I haven't checked to see if there is an IFTT plugin for the lights as there is for Sengled. But this is a common frustration I have. The absolute best for this is Lutron and no one else comes close. A few more details: OK. This sounds like boosterism and it is. I want to see prices fall in this market. I want competitors to Hue and Sengled and LIFX. But I want quality first, not cheapo, no-name, fly-by-night crud from overseas where every light appears to be a rebadged version of another, all with suspiciously positive reviews. This light may be the one I've been looking for. Installation is a breeze. Download and install the Sylvania Wifi app, register your email, respond to an email verifying your address, choose a password, power on the bulb, search for it in the app, enter the password to your wifi network, permit location access (or deny, it works either way) and you're there. Simple. The bulb looks as powerful and colorful as my Hue and Sengled bulbs. It's impressive. The app allows you to set certain scenes ("Effects"), none of which mean much to me, but may to you. The app comes with reading, leisure, awake and and night effects already installed and you can make your own choosing color and brightness along with static, strobe and fade effects. Finally, the light remembers its last setting if its power is turned off, returning to its previous state when the power resumes. I'll update this review if necessary, but these lights are the real deal in my opinion. ... show more

  • Don't Count on the Timer
Color: Full Color Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
Hey everyone, I picked these up hoping to use them as a part of a system to help me adjust my sleep schedule. I had hoped to use them to turn on in the morning to help me wake up, and then turn red an hour before bed... unfortunately it just doesn't work. Its not that the bulbs themselves can't change color, or aren't bright enough the problem seems to come in with the Wi-Fi aspect. I have tried using the app in many different ways: Android Devices with Firewalls on Android Devices without Firewalls on and uninstalled Apple Devices with Firewalls on Apple Devices with Firewalls off and removed and everyone's favorite for an item you bought for the wi-fi aspect... manually turning the thing off and on by hand. In every situation it seems that the app needs some serious updates, specifically on everyone of my devices: Samsung S20 Ultra 2021 Apple iPad Air A Google Fire 10 To work the app REQUIRES me to shut off my wi-fi on my device, wait ten (10) seconds, and then restart the wi-fi and then open the app. If I take more than two (2) or three (3) minuets I have to repeat the process as the app won't work, and I only have the same two (2) or three (3) minuets to do any adjustments that I want including turning the bulbs off and on. Scheduling? Forget abdout it. The bulbs turn themselves off and on whenever they want to, always in the last color used, and only during normal "on times". It gets worse however. Using the bulbs manually they will stay on a random amount of time, on average four (4) hours, but not less then two (2) and then they turn themselves off. Why in the world when the scheduler is set for the bulbs to be on would they turn themselves off? Because the scheduling part of the app doesn't work. Before you say "well you didn't configure your firewall" read again. I've run the app with firewalls completely turned off and removed from the devices. Now for the positive parts. When the app works, it works well. The lights are highly customizable when it comes to brightness ranging from one (1) to one hundred (100) percent and have a nice array of colors. They are a bit large for one of my lamps so the bulb sticks out some form the hood, but otherwise no issues with the install or the other lamp I'm using them in. They are a bit harsh for direct lighting, but a bit of Google use and you'll have an easy fix for that. As for Alexa? Yeah I don't use it or Siri, Bixby, and/or whatever Google is calling their voice assistant.. Longevity? Well I can say they will last several months with (twelve) 12 hours per day or more use. I can say this as I use them in my office/bedroom. In short if Sylvania which now seems to be owned by LEDVANCE cared enough to update their old software, update the bulbs to use the new software, or otherwise seemed to care these bulbs could be good if not great. As it is however they basically are the same as the bulbs you can buy that have a separate remote... only your phone is the remote. Honestly I'd give them 2.5 Stars if Amazon let me, but since they don't and since the app does technically work if only for brief periods I give them 3 out of 5 stars. ... show more

  • Easy Installation and Setup / No Hub
Color: Full Color Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Wifi (A19)
Recently, I decided I was going to make my house more intelligent. I read through hundreds of reviews and researched several different products. I settled on these Sylvania bulbs. I purchased a number of the A19 and BR30 bulbs for my house. Let me start off by saying that setup was super easy. Start by downloading the Sylvania Smart Wi-Fi app. After an easy account setup, unscrew the old traditional bulb and replace it with the new smart bulb. If working properly it should start blinking red, green, blue, etc. Open the app which will recognize the bulb and add it to your network. When done successfully it will stop blinking and maintain a solid white light. You can then quickly link the Sylvania account with your Amazon Alexa account if you wish (or Google Assistant, depending on your smart home ecosystem). The fact that these lights did not require a hub was a huge reason I chose them over the others. I did not think I would be changing the light colors too often, but my two year old just loves when I change them to various different colors. She will come home from daycare look up at the ceiling and say "purple." SOME THINGS TO NOTE: Regarding setting up groups of lights, the Sylvania App allows you to set up "Groups"; however, those groups will not sync with Alexa, so if you plan on using Alexa to control the lights you will have to take the extra steps in setting the lights up into Groups in the Alexa App. After you change the color of the light to say "Teal" (yes, you can ask the lights to change many different colors and Teal looks great) changing them back to "normal" is not as easy as asking Alexa to change the lights normal. My normal is a "warmer" than what Alexa thinks is normal, so I go into the Sylvania app and adjust the temperature of the bulb back to where I like it. If you want to set you own Scenes, I believe you can do that, but I haven't put that much time into it. Nonetheless, it is not that big of deal. The Sylvania app is really easy to use and you can make a number of adjustments to the lights to fit whatever brightness or temperature you prefer. There has only been one issue that is certainly annoying with some of the lights since I have had them. This issue is the reason for my one star reduction and could possibly be fixed with a firmware update. At least 2 or 3 times a week, two or three bulbs randomly disconnect from the network. To fix the issue I had to completely remove the bulb and reinsert it. The bulb is already programmed to my Wi-Fi, so it automatically reconnects when it is screwed back in. For many of my bulbs this only involves getting a step ladder. However, I do have a few bulbs that require me getting my heavy duty ladder and climbing over 13 feet to fix the bulb. At first, I thought it was just some bad Wi-Fi chips in a couple bulbs, but as time went on it appears that issue is random. I will say this, I do have a Mesh Wi-Fi setup at my house, and I am not sure if that may have something to do with the connectivity issues, but I doubt since the fix seems to be removing the bulb and reinserting it. At the end of the day, I think these are a smart buy for anyone wanted to get fancy with the lighting in their house or use Alexa to control their lighting. I would definitely buy again. Pros: Easy Setup Alexa Integration Bulbs are Dimmable Cons: Random Bulbs Disconnect from the Network and have to be removed and reinserted. ... show more
