  • Really neat little light, beautiful colors.
Really cool light, terrible app. I dropped one star for the price and for the bad app - although there are several good and neat 3rd party apps that I use much more often than the Phillips app. Works well with Amazon Alexa, but the features are somewhat limited. For example, you can't change colors via voice control. I bought this one first and then bought the 259515 and they appear to have different colors for specific colors. That's a weird sentence so let me try to explain. When I select a color from the app and apply it to both of them they look different. Now this only happens on certain colors and they are two different products so I'm not going to really complain about that - just a little annoying. I wouldn't recommend purchasing any of the paid apps though, I don't find them that much more useful than the free ones I've used. The one I recommend is called OnSwitch, it has plenty of Albums like Skies, Nature, Fire, Clubs & Lounges, etc. I find them to be pretty decent colors, again I wouldn't recommend purchasing any of the paid options in the app either. The way I mainly use these is that I have them setup in a Group using the Alexa app, these are basically scenes with limited options. As of this writing, grouping is pretty lame. It doesn't allow for any dimming options within the scene itself. I can't fathom why Amazon wouldn't apply this seemingly simple option that most people would really benefit from. It's really nice to be able to turn everything on/off with one voice command and dim them all at once, but what I really want to do is have a true scene. I'd like to be able to have a Group called Movies with different dimming options per device and when I issue the "Alex, turn on Movies" command they all come on with the desired brightness level. I get around this by using the Harmony Hub, so when I click the button to watch Movies my Blooms turn on at 45%, my ceiling light comes on at 20% and my end tables and floor lamp come on at 15%. If Amazon doesn't get on board with this I will certainly be looking into Google Home, which is sad because I absolutely love my Echo. Pros: - Decent cord length - Very sturdy and well made light - Beautiful array of colors, light fills up a large area of wall when on higher settings Cons: - Poor app support (again circumvented by using 3rd Party free apps) - Large power connector, makes it difficult when plugging in other devices - Different models appear to have issues with certain colors - displaying the same exact color (this doesn't seem like a big deal, but I just think it's lame that I upgraded to the newest one and some of the colors don't match. It's not a large number of colors from what I've noticed so it's not a huge negative) - I've had a few connectivity issues, had to move the hub into the same room as the Blooms. I'm not in a real big house and I have all my other hubs in one spot and they have zero issues. This one however did not always connect when in that area, reasons like this make me glad I wired my home when I purchased it. But this could be a pain for people that like to keep their network equipment in the basement - There are some issues when using multiple apps, you really need to close out each app before using another one. Sometimes I forget and then when I adjust the brightness it will barely dim at all - this is because it is using the brightness settings from the other app. It seems like I have a lot of con's, but they are relatively minor issues I have with the product. If you want a cool light and a nice relaxing environment I'd recommend buying one. Picture Disclaimer: I also have an LED light strip behind the TV providing additional lighting. ... show more

  • Helps me wake up in the morning (yes, it does make a big difference!)
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
In my mind, this product is ideal to put on a table by the side of your bed. Changing colors sets a nice mood. Turning lights off and on from your phone is handy. The biggest thing by far is setting it with your alarm so that it helps you wake up. It makes a big difference shining in your eyes and helps me get on track. The build is nice and solid enough. My child dropped mine and the top popped off. I put it back on and we've been good to go. No big deal. Battery life isn't going to be incredible because it's a light—it burns serious power. But it works for a romantic outside date—maybe 1.5 to 2 hours depending on brightness. The button on the back is legitimately helpful. If I'm outside I might not be connected to wifi and don't want to only control from the app. So turning on and changing colors with a physical button is really handy. It's quite bright. Totally sufficient for setting the mood in a bedroom or use as a reading light. Think something like a small beside lamp and you'll be on the right track. Learn to have fun with it. Away on a trip I put on sappy red for my wife back home to let her know I was thinking of her. My kids like to pretend that they're on the moon finding martians (yeah, doesn't make sense) so changing the light to green on my phone tells them the martians are coming. Still, my favorite uses are setting a mood and waking up in the morning. One small gripe. The charger cord has a funny bend so the light can stand up. That's all fine I suppose, but after only a year and mostly just beside my bed, it's fraying. I'm not sure how I would replace it without ordering from Philipps directly. So I'd like to see better construction there. Overall, totally glad I got this product and recommend it without reserve. ... show more

  • Nice accent light.
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Jan 2016 UPDATE: It now is compatible with Echo! Just need to go into your settings and it should be listed there. click the box to 'check' it and it will be added to your collection. I use my system all the time. Tip: I set one light to come on in the morning when I'm about to leave bedroom so i can see going into living room without fumbling with light switches. Then as I'm about to leave for work, I just say "Alexa, turn off table light." and I'm good to go. Just one of many ways you can use. The Hue Go is a nice addition to the Philips Hue lighting system. It's about the size of a small rice bowl and does just what it says. makes pretty accent lighting. the lights are crisp and its an interesting concept. you can set it 'flat' on a table (like a bowl) or it can be set at an angle, like shown in the picture. Just depends on where you want the light to go for the mood you are creating. It also adds effortlessly to your Hue app or Hue Pro. (I use both). However, couple items of note before you jump in.. 1- this is compatible with your Echo device 2- the charge lasts for about 3 hours when unplugged so plan accordingly 3- if you are using alarms/timers on it, keep it plugged in to work properly 4- not waterproof or shatterproof Besides that, I enjoy the light, which is now #4 on my system. recommended. ... show more
