  • Decent for cheap
As a quite inexpensive DVD player for which I'm not expecting heavy use this is certainly a decent player. The picture quality at 1080p is just as good as a much more expensive player, as is the audio quality. Where the cost cutting becomes obvious is in the longer scanning/load times and the unexpected loudness of the motor as it moves the lens any distance (though in normal play it's as silent as any other player), and the remote control has spongy buttons that aren't exactly a pleasure to press. Otherwise, though, this DVD player performs just as one would expect it to, it gets the job done, and once the disc is playing it's rather difficult to tell that this is, in fact, a budget model. The region-free feature, allowing DVDs from all over the world to be played, is, of course, the icing on the cake, and an absolute must for me. ... show more

  • It's...OK
So, I bought this because a couple of hard to find movies I recently purchased on DVD were not playable on the very old game system I've been using as a player. I needed something that would play DVDs from all regions, which this one claimed it would. Now, the two movies I had as yet been unable to view worked perfectly; I was so pleased, until I popped in a DVD that was always playable on the old system only to find it wasn't recognized by the new player. This has turned out to be the case with several of my favourite DVDs now. I traded being able to watch two for not being able to watch at least five (so far, I haven't tried all of my discs yet). Also, the remote is not all that useful for a lot of the DVDs—it will certainly fast forward and rewind, stop and play, but I have yet to figure out how to simply skip to the next or previous scene, and, as there were no instructions for the remote functions included in the box, I'll eventually need to spend some time looking it up (not the worst problem to have, but still added inconvenience to an already less-than-satisfying purchase). Often the "menu" button does nothing, and, depending on the disc, I never know how the remote will function. It is quiet and compact, gives a good picture, and does work for a lot of films produced outside the US, but, again, a lot of DVDs from my region now are useless to me, and I really wanted a player that would be able to handle any of my DVDs. ... show more

  • Great small dvd player!
I do like a lot. The remote control is easy to use. And been able to play DVDs from other European countries is really great for I have many of those.

  • It doesn't play all regions!
I bought this DVD player because of the "play all regions" that it offers. But it will not play alot of my U.S. dvds nor alot of other DVDs from U.K. Did I miss something here? Says ALL regions.

  • This mostly works
I've had this DVD player for a few weeks now. It was very easy to set up. So far, it has played all of my PAL DVDs without any problems, but it's finicky with the NTSC DVDs. One of them wouldn't play at all--it kept giving me an error message about "incompatible region code." It's not a deal-breaker for me, but just beware that this player might not play quite everything. ... show more

  • Updated. Remote is useless passed 2 foot
Update! The remote continues to be a problem if more than 2 feet from the machine. The bigger problem is that the power control just acts as the play button, both on the remote and the unit while using the stop button on the remote just sends the dvd back to the first chapter and starts playing over again. The thing won’t actually power down, and it will start playing the audio but no picture and since I can not turn it off, since the power doesn’t work, I have to unplug it from the wall. 🫤 This machine plays all regions. The issue is that the remote only works within 2 feet of the unit! It is a basic and limited dvd player, and that is fine, but integrating it in the system is... You want to pause, get up and do it at the machine. You want to turn off subtitles (which it automatically uses every time you hit play)? get up and turn them off. Need to change anything? Well, do it before you sit back down! It is what it is and you get what you pay for. I will probably buy a Sony to replace this. It is really not a big deal, just gets old after a while when the lights are off and you are hunched down aiming right at the machine, a foot away. you get your video started, sit down as the FBI warning roll and you settle in....then the subtitles pop up in the middle of the screen and you realize...you have to get back up to sit in front of the machine a foot away to run through the subtitle settings to turn them off....again. ... show more

  • Brilliant DVD player, dreadful instructions and remote controller
Philips is a staggeringly brilliant international electrical and electronics corporation, and its genius is apparent in this All Region DVD player. The downside is an inadequate instruction manual that has lots of pictures but no actual instructions, particularly none regarding the remote controller - and the remote itself. The remote control device is itsie-bitsie teensie-weensie, and has no descriptive language next to its tiny buttons ... only incomprehensible hieroglyphics. And the buttons themselves are so small that a normal male finger can't actuate them; only the eraser end of a wooden pencil will do! If the remote had been reasonable and functional, I'd've kept the thing. Unfortunately neither reason nor functionality were considered in the design and engineering! ... show more
