After researching several fully automatic espresso machines, I ultimately chose the Philips 4400 LatteGo. After using it daily for over a month, I can confidently say I am extremely pleased with my decision. The coffee quality is excellent, the machine is easy to use, and the drinks have distinct flavor profiles that consistently produce rich, satisfying results. There are more drink options than I will probably ever use, but I view that as a benefit rather than a drawback. As I continue exploring the menu, I find myself expanding my coffee horizons. The coffee strength, coffee volume, and milk froth level can all be adjusted to suit your preferences. The LatteGo milk system is one of the biggest advantages of this machine. It is simple to attach, easy to clean, and produces excellent milk foam. If you want extra froth, there is even a froth-only option. If you want hot water for tea or hot chocolate, simply remove the LatteGo container and brew hot water directly. Cleaning was a major consideration for me, and Philips did an excellent job. The automatic rinse cycles and quick-clean components make maintenance almost effortless. Emptying the drip tray and coffee grounds container takes only a couple of minutes. Another pleasant surprise is how quiet the machine is. The grinder noise is minimal. The first few times I used it, I actually checked to make sure it was grinding because it was so much quieter than I expected. I was initially concerned about the bean hopper size, but after using the machine, I appreciate the compact design and smaller footprint. It fits my countertop perfectly while still holding enough beans for daily use. One tip: very oily espresso beans may occasionally need to be stirred in the hopper so they continue feeding properly. For me, this has been a minor inconvenience rather than a real issue. If you’re looking for a fully automatic espresso machine that produces excellent coffee, is easy to clean, quiet, user-friendly, and reasonably priced, the Philips 4400 LatteGo deserves serious consideration. We absolutely love our Philips 5500 Series. The user profiles are one of our favorite features. Everyone can save their own settings, so there’s no daily negotiation over strength, amount of coffee, milk, temperature, etc. You pick your profile, hit your drink, and it remembers how you like it. Very easy. We also really like how much you can customize each individual drink. Espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte, americano — you can adjust everything until you get it exactly where you want it. It makes you feel slightly more sophisticated than you really are. The whole-bean setup is great too. Freshly ground coffee every time makes a noticeable difference, and the machine does all the hard work without making the process feel complicated. Cleaning has also been much easier than I expected. The water, beans, grounds, and milk system are all easy to access, refill, empty, and clean. I was worried this would turn into one of those appliances that is fantastic for two weeks and then becomes a countertop decoration because it’s too much trouble to maintain. That has definitely not been the case. It heats up quickly, the touchscreen is simple, the drink selection is excellent, and the machine has been very consistent. You can make something simple in the morning or pretend you’re running a small Italian café from your kitchen. Probably the biggest compliment I can give it is that we actually use it constantly. It isn’t one of those expensive kitchen gadgets you love for a month and then forget about. We really like ours, and it has become part of the daily routine.

I couldn't be happier. I think bad reviews are just people who haven't spent the time learning about the machine and how it works. Yes the first few cups were not the best but it takes time to basically train the machine and get the settings where you want it. Now it makes amazing drinks. It is way better than using the kcups. I know some people complain about the bypass for pre-ground coffee not being great but it was better in this machine than it was using the Keurig with the refillable pods. My only issue is that I can't get enough and it is messing with my sleep. I've had TOO much caffeine. LOL It is easy to clean and use. Once you get the initial set up done, a child (or lazy husband) could operate it. Now my husband is trying to convince me I no longer need my coffee grinder, milk frother or the French press. The French press is different though and I need my grinder to use with it. LOL Maybe I will decide the one machine is enough but he isn't willing to part with the Keurig yet because he hasn't bothered to learn this new one yet. Maybe I will check in this time next year to let everyone know if we got rid of the other items.

Like others, I should have paid more attention to the 1 and 2 star reviews. This piece of machinery produces very expensive brown water. Not only was it a waste of money, it was a huge waste of time. I spent hours over the course of three days trying to address all of the potential issues/solutions I found online. Some warned against using beans that might be too oily (leading to excessive bridging) so I cleaned the whole thing out and tried, not one, but two more bean varieties which were drier. No difference. Some warned that the bean levels had to be maintained just so in the hopper for proper feeding, or you literally had to stand over the hopper to stir the beans to make sure they fed properly. No difference. Some warned that the first 5-10 cups were going to be weak to "allow the system to self-adjust and optimize the grinder/brew unit for the best coffee extraction" - whatever that means, and I brewed 20-25 cups waiting for improvement. No difference. Some warned that the machine produces some drinks better than others (i.e. that the espresso would be pretty good, but the coffee is terrible) so I tried a variety. No difference. I even tried using pre-ground (which defeats the point of a "fully automatic"). No difference. In the end I had to add two espressos to my coffee just to produce something that looked and tasted remotely like coffee. The bottom line is that this machine is incapable to producing good coffee, espresso, etc. because it either can't feed enough through the hopper or can't apply the right pressure to the grounds - it appears to be both. It isn't at all customizable - you would think you could adjust the strength, or even the amount of beans for this price, but you would be wrong. In the end, you'll be emptying/rinsing/wiping out small amounts of soupy used grounds from the bin every time - NEVER anything resembling a puck with the espresso. Returning. Turns out it is too good to be true. Back to my manual process.

Wow, I'm really happy with the Philips 5500 for our home. The taste of the coffee drinks are far above the pods we were using. I recommend watching some videos to see how to adjust the machine so that the coffee is to your taste and not too bitter or too watery, etc. I love the customization options because all of us have different preferences. Everything is really easy to clean and take care of. This has replaced four separate machines for my coffee drinking family - a Nespresso, a Keurig, a plain coffee machine, and a separate milk frother. It takes up a lot less space, and it's quiet. It's easy to use, even for older people. It's not a cheap machine, but we were spending a small fortune on individual coffee pods for our family of coffee drinkers. The cost of the beans is a lot less than buying pods. The machine itself is also really quick compared to our old suite of machines. I hope that it ends up reliable in the long run.

I love that I can just push a button and boom my coffee house quality latte is ready. Also, it’s not loud at all. I thought initially it would be. But it’s not. Super silent with the ceramic grinder. I’ve had this for 4 months now. It’s easy to clean and the milk system works well (including with non-dairy milk). It’s nice that it has a bypass option to make, for example, a decaf cup. It has lots of options and within drink options, you can further optimize the amount of espresso (double shot), milk or foam. The grinding is quiet, but the milk and brewing is very loud. The water capacity would be better if it was 25% larger, but is ok as is. The coffee strength is on the weaker side, so i have set to finest grind and often do a double shot. The size is good and the ability to adjust the height of the dispenser allows for small/medium height travel mugs. Would be 5 stars with greater water capacity, quieter operation, slightly stronger coffee strength and the ability to accommodate larger travel mugs.

After being in France for a week, I developed a strong liking for real Cafe au lait. And then in Italy and Portugal I started drinking those cute tiny cups of expresso. My hubby and I decided it would be worth it to get this as a gift for ourselves since we both like coffee- and he likes fresh ground bean coffee. So all you have to do is pour some whole beans in the hopper at the top, fill the side dispenser with water, and add milk to the frother cup and press the button(s) to make cafe au lait. It tastes so good. It has ways to change the amount of froth and how strong you want the coffee and how much amount of coffee. If you use coffee grounds, this is not the machine for you. I can not get that function to work and a drip coffee maker is better for that. It is loud when it grinds the beans and heats the milk but it’s worth it. Clean up is pretty easy- it tells you when to dump the spent grounds (easy pull out tray) and if you forget to put in water, the machine stops itself, so no harm done. I love our deluxe coffee machine!
