There is a reason they encourage you to go watch their YouTube videos. This thing has a learning curve. But once you get it figured out, it makes pretty solid coffee drinks. Background: I’ve used a 15 bar DeLonghi espresso maker for a few years. I’d gotten a routine down, but it always felt like a little more of a hassle than I wanted…grinding the beans, tamping the puck, steaming the milk, etc. Always a bit of a mess, too. So I decided to upgrade to this machine. Initial setup: There are no words in the instruction booklet, just diagrams with pictures. I suppose it saves them having to print complicated instructions in multiple languages. Not the most straightforward, but also not that hard to understand. You find the part with the matching symbol and do the thing. I had it up and running in about 10 minutes out of the box. The learning curve: • You will need to experiment with the water and coffee ground amounts, and these are pretty customizable, so it might take you a while to dial it in. I like my coffee drinks strong, so I do the max amount of grounds and a medium amount of water. • Americans will need to make 2-3 lattes to fill their travel cups. We drink giant coffee drinks. This machine does not make giant coffee drinks. You will have to make multiple to fill your Yeti tumbler. • Make sure the milk chamber is clicked ALL the way into the steamer platform. Otherwise, milk will go everywhere. It’s not a fun start to the morning. • If your coffee starts to taste gross after being great for a while, you probably need to add more beans. Since the machine is so automatic, and you are often making multiple drinks to fill up one cup, it’s easy to forget there’s not an unlimited supply of coffee beans in the hopper. Things I’ve read in other reviews that I don’t agree with: • “Coffee is not hot enough.” It comes out plenty hot. I like to be able to drink my coffee right away and not burn my tongue. I can do that with the coffee from this machine. And I usually think, “Oh, that’s a little hot” when I do. If you like your coffee scalding, maybe you’d think it’s not hot enough. I think it’s fine. • “This thing leaks water everywhere.” If you put all the pieces and parts exactly where they are supposed to go, it doesn’t leak. If it does, check your part alignment. If it still does, you got a bum unit and that sucks. • “The coffee tastes terrible.” A $700 coffee machine can’t make bad coffee taste amazing. If this is your first effort at trying to make espresso at home, and it tastes terrible, try different (better) beans. Then try experimenting with the grounds vs. water settings. I use Lavazza beans and I get espresso that tastes the same as what I was getting out of my no-frills DeLonghi espresso maker. Overall, I like this machine. It has simplified and cleaned up my morning routine quite a bit, which I appreciate in terms of having a more efficient, pleasant start to the day. But it has a lot of pieces and parts, which means there are a lot of things that could go wrong with it. That’s just the nature of adding more tech to a process. And as expensive as this machine is, I imagine fixing it would also be expensive So I’m keeping my manual DeLonghi machine in reserve. Just in case.

I’ve spent enough time with espresso machines to know there’s always a tradeoff somewhere. The question isn’t whether a machine is perfect, it’s whether the compromises line up with how you actually drink coffee. This LatteGo isn’t trying to replace a prosumer machine. And for the most part it doesn’t, if you’re not into the details of coffee extraction. Instead, this is trying to make consistently good coffee with almost no effort, and for the most part, it succeeds. The workflow is wonderfully simple. Fill the bean hopper, fill the water tank, press a button, and about 30 seconds later you have an espresso. A double shot takes roughly a minute, which is quick for a bean-to-cup machine. The ceramic burr grinder is certainly louder than I’d like, but it produces a surprisingly consistent grind once you’ve dialed it in. You’re giving up some control compared to a standalone grinder, but you’re gaining speed and repeatability. Before buying, though, understand exactly what this machine is, and what it isn’t. The menu is simple, it makes Espresso, Coffee, Latte (or Cappuccino depending on the regional model, this one makes Lattes, ) and Hot Water. That’s it. If those four drinks cover 95% of your coffee routine, you’ll probably never feel limited. If you’re the type of person who enjoys flat whites, Americanos, lungos, iced drinks, café au lait, or experimenting with different milk recipes, you’ll eventually notice the ceiling and grow out of this. There isn’t a dedicated cold brew or cold extraction mode either. Any iced coffee is simply brewed hot and poured over ice, which is perfectly acceptable, but it’s not true cold extraction. One thing worth mentioning is the model number. I have the EP2330/14, which is the international 220–240V version. If you’re in North America, this model requires a properly rated step-up transformer and is not designed to plug directly into a standard 120V household outlet. The LatteGo system still remains as one of Philips’ strongest selling points. I’ve owned machines with traditional milk circuits, and cleaning those can become a chore very quickly. LatteGo consists of only three pieces with no internal tubing hiding old milk. You can rinse it under the faucet in seconds or toss it in the dishwasher. That’s one of the best milk system designs on the market. My only criticism is the milk outlet itself. The dispensing chute is fairly wide, and depending on your cup and where it’s positioned, milk will spray instead of flowing neatly into the center. It’s a small annoyance rather than a flaw, but it’s something I noticed immediately. One thing I recommend, regardless of which automatic machine you buy, is to use fresh milk every single time. Don’t leave milk sitting in the container between drinks. Store the milk in the refrigerator, rinse the LatteGo container immediately after use, and keep everything clean. Milk residue spoils quickly, and a thirty-second rinse today saves you from unpleasant odors or clogs tomorrow. I went through this with the first one, clogs are no fun. The removable brew group is still one of my favorite features because it opens on the side panel, slide it out, rinse it under warm water, let it dry, and reinstall it. That’s it. I probably remove mine more often than Philips recommends, not because it’s necessary, but because coffee oils, moisture, and enclosed spaces eventually become a perfect environment for mold when neglected. It makes me nervous just thinking about it and my OCD brain is saying to go check. While you have the brew group out, occasionally lubricate the moving rails with food-grade silicone grease only. You need remarkably little, about the size of a grain of rice is plenty. More grease doesn’t improve anything; it simply attracts more coffee residue so remember that if you put on too much grease, you will create the conditions for cake and nobody likes that. Another small habit I’ve adopted is using a handheld coffee vacuum to collect the loose grounds that escape when the spent puck is ejected. It’s completely optional, but it keeps the interior remarkably tidy over time. The AquaClean filter system deserves real praise too. Besides dramatically extending the interval between descaling cycles, it improves water quality, which directly affects flavor. I personally use TWW because properly treated brewing water doesn’t just produce sweeter, cleaner espresso, it also minimizes scale buildup and helps protect the machine’s internal components over years of use. I also refresh the water tank every couple of days because fresh water simply makes better coffee. It’s definitely quieter than my previous Philips machine. It still isn’t quiet. I measured roughly 75 dB while grinding and brewing, with the LatteGo frother reaching about 80 dB. That’s perfectly acceptable in everyday use, but nobody is sleeping while during your morning coffee routine. My biggest reservation isn’t today’s performance, it’s tomorrow’s. My previous automatic machine eventually developed brew group clogging that became frustratingly difficult to resolve. So far this machine appears improved, but reliability is something that only time can answer. Fortunately Philips has made troubleshooting fairly approachable. If the warning light begins flashing, it’s usually because the brew group isn’t seated correctly or has become blocked. Remove it, rinse it thoroughly, verify the alignment, and reinstall it. Most issues are surprisingly easy to fix once you know where to look. Finally, I have to admit something entirely subjective. This is a beautiful machine. The finish with subtle chrome accents manages to look elegant, it’s not the center of attention but it blends well into the kitchen. It looks modern, and it looks considerably more expensive than it actually is. This is an appliance that delivers dependable espresso every morning with virtually no learning curve, this is easy to recommend because it makes great coffee. Philips built this for someone who wants great coffee every morning, not another hobby. Coffee machines don’t earn trust by making one excellent espresso. They earn our trust by making the thousandth one without asking for attention and doing it properly. That’s the part I’ll continue watching, and if anything changes over the coming months, I’ll update this review accordingly. There are so many features. Some can be customized and in cases, overridden. Based on the existing reviews we have our own interpretation of what these features do and how they effect their coffee. Lets start with the main question. Can this 600.00 device make a good cup of coffee? For me, after 3 days of reading, adjusting, and understanding the unit i can say, without a doubt, yes. After day 4 I had my first full cup of delicious coffee just the way, and even better that i like it. Is it better than my 29.00 coffee pot and 15.00 spice grinder? Yes. Was I completely satisfied with my old unit? Yes. I spent weeks adjusting the bean quantity, and grind time to produce a good, strong, cup of joe. I was in control of every aspect and got the results I wanted. Temperature and how coffee is made makes a difference. This unit comes with a set of temp ranges but it can be made even hotter. I sought this out and set it for the hottest water temp. I also like the grounds fine. I also sought out how to do this and adjust the grind for my needs. Now I want a full cup of coffee so I increase the water dispense to its max. This does not give me more coffee though. I just get more hot water. The solution was to run 2 cycles of coffee or simply select x2 for coffee or espresso. This made a full cup of joe that was plenty strong for me. Espresso. Perfect, with the grind set to max amount and no additional adjustments. About 2 oz of nice strong espresso. I also have pre-ground beans just for espresso and I can also use this option with a limitation of 3 teaspoons per cup. Latte. I'm Satisfied. I am not a latte drinker but with plain whole milk my wife felt completely spoiled. The foam was thick and the tasted great. We have clear coffee mugs that adds to the presentation. Maintenance. It will be a few thousand cycles but you will eventually need to spend the mid morning dissembling, cleaning, and re-lubricating this. This is not a bad thing. I could have very well have been designed to be a disposable unit but it can be cleaned and I can see this, if taken care of, lasting about 15,000 cycles. The model number for USA and Canada are the same. (ep2330/14) If you buy your device in the USA you will, should receive a 120VAC coffee maker. Canadian users should receive the 240VAC unit. The description for this unit says 240VAC. I however got the 120VAC unit. Espresso/Coffee 1 VS Espresso/Coffee 2 This means you get a single or double coffee cycle. With option 2 lit under coffee or espresso the unit will cycle a grind, pack, brew, and pour two times. One after the other. The lowest amount of water selected gives me a full cup of coffee. My wife and I have espresso each night before she leaves for work and on the weekends we share a good cup of regular coffee together. We really are enjoying this new machine. The unit takes about a minute to power up. It flashes its lights, beeps, moans, and groans to be sure all is in working order. The last thing it does is dispense a bit of hot water. I catch this in my cup then pour it out. After a while without any call for coffee it will make a few more groans then turn itself off. Cheers

I’ve used an automatic espresso machine before, so I had a good idea of what to expect. Although this machine has plenty of features, it has relatively few options: coffee, espresso, cappuccino/latte, and hot water. That’s it. There are more expensive machines out there with long menus of coffee beverages, but for me, this one does everything I need it to do at a more reasonable price. The grinding process is a bit noisy, but not any louder than other machines I've used. Set up is super easy, with prompts even guiding you through water filter installation and prep. As advertised, the“LatteGo” milk system is very easy to clean. I didn’t care for the shape of it at first, with the milk essentially spilling out like a milk waterfall. But it does work as well as the classic milk frothing wands I’ve used, so I’m okay with it. The LatteGo components—all two of them—go right into the dishwasher, which is wonderful. Despite setting the coffee temperature to the highest (there are 3 settings), it’s simply not possible to get a cappuccino at the temperature I want. That’s not really the fault of the machine, however, but just a price one has to pay for a coffee drink that is essentially half coffee and half warm milk and foam. I always make a point to heat my mug first with hot water from the sink, which helps a lot. I like the look and design of this machine. The control panel faces the front at a slight angle. My coffee bar is fairly high, so a top-facing control panel would require me to lean over the machine. I think the front/angled design would also be appreciated by shorter users or someone using a wheelchair. Based on my experience so far, I’d happily recommend this machine. It’s easy to use, looks impressive on my coffee bar, and makes excellent coffee and cappuccinos. This is an easy five stars for me.

We owned an older Philips automatic coffee machine for about 3 years. It was still working when we received this newer version and love it even more. I added a video to try and show you all the things it can do. The biggest takeaway I think for choosing an automatic coffee machine vs say a Keurig (we have both) is the freshness, versatility and simplicity you get with this machine. I love fresh ground coffee it just tastes so much better to me. Yes an automatic coffee machine is expensive but it was worth it to us. It’ll last a long time and you get so much more out of this machine than say a Keurig. This machine is priced well compared to other similar automatic coffee machines. The bean hopper holds lots of beans and seals really well to keep it fresh. There’s a window you can peek at to see when it needs to be filled back up. It makes minimal noise when it’s grinding your coffee. You can adjust the grinder to finer or courser in order to get the perfect setting you like. There’s also a spot near it if you want to add ground coffee instead. The milk frother is so cool. It automatically pours it into your mug. It makes the milk hot and frothy. The container is easy to pull off and put back on to rinse it out. This part is noisy. It takes about 2 minutes once you hit the latte button for it to make your latte on the fullest cup setting. The water reservoir has a window as well to know when to fill it up or your coffee machine will tell you , the little water symbol will light up. It slides in and out easily. There is a drip tray and a floating red plastic piece that sits in it so when it’s full it pops up so you know when to empty the tray . You’ll also need to empty the coffee grounds about the same time. Super easy and you just rinse them out. We have also run the tray at times through the dishwasher and it always came out ok. Tip: When emptying your coffee grounds if they look soupy or really wet and if you notice your espresso shots are tasting weak or watery, you can tweak your machine’s settings for a drier “puck” and a stronger cup. The coffee grounds will look like little hockey pucks. Adjust the grind size in the bean hopper: If the grind is too coarse, it won't build up the necessary back-pressure to form a firm puck. Use the dial inside your bean hopper to adjust the grinder to a finer setting, but only make adjustments while the grinder is actively running. You can choose between 1 or 2 espresso shots, 1 or 2 cups of coffee, hot water for tea or hot chocolate or a latte. Just to get an idea how full it fills your cup if you’re choosing the coffee button: If you hit the button to fill your cup at its fullest, for one cup, you get about 8 oz. If you hit that button twice for two cups it’s about 2 cups (15-16 oz of coffee) so you can choose how much coffee by choosing how full to fill your cup easily. It comes with an aqua clean water filter. We use our refrigerator’s water that’s filtered so we never used this. You’d have to reorder the filter each time otherwise. When this needs to be cleaned you can use the vinegar method ( 1/2 vinegar to 1/2 water) to clean out the insides or buy some cleaner to run through the machine. This is a really nice coffee maker and feel spoiled using it. I loved our older version ( it lasted 3 years and was still going strong until we received this one and replaced it) and love this one as well with more upgrades. Great quality and lasts for years.

This Philips 2300 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine with LatteGo milk system and integrated grinder makes consistently good coffee with very little effort. Setup was easy, and making espresso, coffee, or a latte is as simple as filling the water tank and bean hopper, and pressing a button. The built-in grinder produces fresh grounds for every cup, and the ability to adjust the grind, strength, and drink size makes it easy to tailor each drink to your preferences. The coffee is rich and flavorful, and I especially appreciate being able to brew either single or double servings depending on what I need. The hot water function is also a nice bonus for tea or Americanos. The LatteGo milk system creates creamy, well-textured milk foam with minimal effort, and unlike many automatic milk systems, it's remarkably easy to clean since it comes apart into just a few pieces with no internal tubing to worry about. The removable brew group is another feature I appreciate, as it makes routine maintenance quick and simple. The AquaClean filter is a welcome addition, helping reduce the frequency of descaling while improving overall water quality. The machine also does a great job of reminding you when routine care is needed. The espresso this machine makes is quick and easy but it doesn't have much aroma, flavor or boldness in my opinion. It's very easy to use, too easy, and doesn't make a mess but it definitely lacks the kick of a real espresso machine. It's easy to clean too. You just pull out the tray, dump the water and there's a separate bin to dump the grounds. There's no instructions at all, anywhere that I can find. I just played with the buttons and I found my favorite setting is 2x espresso, 2 on the beans, 1 on the cup. I do that twice. So it's basically 4 shots of espresso. Am I crazy? No. I'm an aeropress user and I hand grind my beans so basically the polar opposite of this fully automatic machine. My partner likes the machine better than I do though probably because it makes a good cup and it's easy. The grind it makes even on the finest setting isn't quite an espresso grind and I don't think it has enough pressure to really press out the full extraction of the flavor and oil. If I go full on the beans settings which is 3, it gets too bitter. If I go full on the cup setting, it's just watery. So I dial it back a little and this machine is so quick, it does my 4 shots in under a minute. It's not that strong either so it's not like actually drinking 4 shots of espresso. It's more like 1 honestly. I like that you don't have to weigh out beans, have a separate grinder and that it doesn't make a mess. To be honest using aeropress we've had some accidents with beans, the hand grinder is causing arthritis and then there's all the trouble with the scale and electric kettle. This fully automatic machine solves all those problems. Just know that there is still some room for improvement. If you don't want to mess around with all that or even pods, I think this is the cleanest easier system I've seen. On some mornings where I don't have time or I'm just too busy to go through the whole hand grind ritual, I've been going completely without. The price is high but let's be honest you're going to spend more on the beans than this machine costs in the end. There's no reason to spend that money and then not enjoy it.

The Philips 2300 Series has been a great addition to my kitchen. It makes consistently good coffee with very little effort, and I love how easy it is to switch between the different coffee options. The LatteGo milk system is especially convenient and creates smooth, creamy milk without being complicated to use or clean. The machine feels well made, the controls are straightforward, and cleanup is much easier than I expected for a fully automatic espresso machine. I also haven’t had any issues with leaking or water dripping where it shouldn’t, which is something I was initially concerned about with a machine like this. I really appreciate being able to enjoy café-style drinks at home without having to manually grind beans or froth milk. Overall, it’s easy to use, reliable, makes great-tasting coffee, and feels like a good value for a fully automatic espresso machine. Definitely a 5-star product!
