We fenced in nearly an acre and it works perfectly. It wasn’t too hard to bury the wire 1-2” once we have the right tool and got a good system going. It took about 6 hours total, over two days to do a 1-acre installation. It wasn’t too hard well worth the work to see our very happy pup running free and enjoying the yard. She still tries to chase squirrels and bark at walkers going by, but she stops dead at the fence line and doesn’t cross. Only took 3-4 times of her testing the boundary and us adjusting to find the right setting on the collar, before she stayed put and within the boundaries. We have a smart dog, and we shortened the training process dramatically, with only 2 to 3 days of walking the boundary on leash and then off leash, and then letting her play off leash with supervision for the first week. She got to know the boundary within 3 to 4 days. We removed the flags slowly, over a period of about w-3 weeks. The charge on the collar also seems to last a long time. The collar strap itself did break, not sure how it happened, probably the pup was scratching at it and pulling at it, and then broke the buckle. Very easy and inexpensive to get replacement collar straps, so no big deal. One of the things I liked about this pack, was that the receiver on the caller is not as bulky as some of the others out there. We have a medium size doodle who is about 30 pounds and I didn’t want to stick a giant plastic cube around her neck. The receiver on this collar also curved and rounded which I think is more comfortable for her and doesn’t stick out as much as the rectangular shaped ones. Great fence! We tried 3 different GPS collar systems. All had delay and GPS location issues, which made them useless for containing a dog in a mostly open property. This fence system works perfectly. Our dog caught on quickly and now gets to run free within about 1.5 acre area. Also it does not interfere with our garage door opener as the GPS types did, since they were on same radio frequency. My dog keeps going across the boundary WITHOUT a shock. Everything is working and the collar is fully charged. I have hand tested it many, many times (we’ve rewired and “widened” the boundary). This is an unacceptable mode of failure and now my only recourse is a bad review. My poor dog was nearly hit by a car today, and he got shocked on the way back in. He is now terrified to go outside. The best collar for my dog because all he needs is a vibration reminder of the boundaries. This is our second collard like this. The first one lasted right at or a little over a year of 24/7 use. And lots of under water & caked on dirt use, too! The collar was still working when the battery went dead, I went to charge it and a prong on inside the charging port broke off, so it no longer charged. Update: I updated the rating from 1 to 3 starts because their customer service was phenomenal. They understood the issue and remedied the situation. I still hope they update their product descriptions to tell everyone what exactly they are buying. We have always had a PetSafe system for our dogs. The training is easy, system is reliable, and our dogs could fully enjoy whatever yard we had the system in. Now for the bad: Nowhere does this particular system mention how cheap the wire is. From talking with customer service, this model is the only one that comes with wire that is copper clad. The other systems come with single strand. The copper clad is significantly more brittle and susceptible to squirrel and chipmunk damage. We have had to splice the line 3 times within the 3 months that we have had the unit. There is a considerable amount of time putting in the system and I would have gladly paid a little more to get a much more durable wire. PetSafe misses the mark on being transparent with consumers and I really hope that someone from the company reaches out and helps to address this extreme flaw. ... show more

This was a process! After one weekend of brainstorming, I figured it out. The issue is having to make a complete circle. I could have done it around the house but it would have been extensive digging in the front and in the back too many tree roots with our wooded perimeter. I ended up attaching it to the fence with the wires 5 feet apart (like the manual diagram shows). The first issue was we have a HOA so we couldn’t use the orange wire that came with the kit. I had to order more wire anyway because I was about 50 feet short to do the double perimeter method. I ordered black wire (not the same brand, much thicker) Of course, the gauge wire for the kit was not listed, so I ordered the wrong size the first time. My hubby is not happy. I have to loop it through the garage (via under the garage door) I have no access to the garage except thru the front, I wasn’t about drilling thru concrete wall to run the wire. All this because the box is not weatherproof! This is a huge design flaw which also led to the need for more wire. Once I had everything I needed, it took about 4 hours. It was pretty easy once I gave up digging and put it on the existing fence. In case you are wondering, I need it for the digging dog, not a perimeter.
